I wonder if any of you guys can help a gal out please?

I managed to break my ankle a month ago, turned it into a pot hole while walking and snapped the tibia, fortunately just below the joint, so have not required pins to fix.

I apologise for asking this here, but I figure some one in here must have broken/bruised bones before and may be able to answer my question.

When my ankle snapped I went straight down to ground and managed to bruise my other leg very badly, the heamatoma is still hard and lumpy in the calf muscle. I have bruised the tibia on my other leg. The holes the gravel made are almost healed :woohoo: I still cant weight bare on the broken ankle ( I tried last night to see what happens, it is still too painful) but have to weight bare on the other leg to get around. That still hurts :pinch:

How long can I expect to have ouchy pain from a bruised bone?

PS: Walking is far more dangerous than riding bikes

I rolled my ankle rather badly September 2008. I was off work until December, and on light duties, Half days effectively, until January. Physio took another 4 months 3x a week, and it is still not 100%. The Doctor at work said it was one of the worst sprains he had ever seen, and said I would have been better off breaking it, as the can immobilise it in plaster ,moon boot etc.

I don't envy you Mom. Its a bitch. But on the bright side, you have a Man Friday to look after you...

I don'y know if this helps at all though.

Might be a tricky question to answer ... :shit:

Pregnancy only lasts 9 months ... but the pain can continue for 18 years or more ... (sex can be more EXPENSIVE than motorcycling)

It's only been 17mths so far, but of course that was breaking my back. When I broke it again in July this year, I thought it would heal up fairly quick, but it's still damn sore... Gotta rest it more, but I'm so sick of resting..

Usually count on six weeks for it to come right, but your ankle will probably take a bit longer.

I can not fault the home based care I get. My Maha is

The Emercency Doc said if I was going to break my ankle then I had done it the best way I could. I ruptured a couple of ligaments in the same ankle a few years ago, probably why I broke my ankle now :pinch:

It is the bruised bones that I am curious about. My non broken leg hurts more than the one in plaster

I am looking at 6 weeks in plaster, re-xray to confirm all is good, then FREEDOM! :D

Anyone that can answer the question? Bruised bones? How long till they stop hurting?

theres not really sure fire way to answer it, it depends on your age, fitness, health etc etc. I would guess around 5 weeks till it stops hurting and you are just sort of tender. Positive thinking does help though, if you keep thinking to yourself 'fuck this hurts, fuck this hurts', then it will keep hurting cos youll just convince yourself of it!

I bruised the bones in my thumb about two and a half months ago running over B Grade Tim, still not right. A guy at work did pretty much the same playing indoor netball a few years ago. Reconns it took months to come right, something about bugger all blood circulation in the affected area. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

Broke my ribs years ago playing rugby,
I break them at least once a month, so I cant help you with that,
But I have broken all my fingers and toes and they ache all the time, always sore ever since then, but I have broken my wrist and it didnt hurt at all, but I have never bruised a bone
Think its more dependent upon the person more than anything ae
Just try keep as active as possible on it without over doing it, will help it a bit

Start massaging that lump in your calf, otherwise they can actually hang around for an awfully long time. Doesn't have to be hardcore, just regular. As for the bone pain, bad ruck. Rest it!

Best I can offer is when my lung op was done, they spread/broke my ribs to get to said lung, doc did say it can be tender due to the fact the ribs may need breaking/cut to get hand between but the forcing apart and ligament stretching, means certain amount of uncomfort, may last 3 months post op or a slight pain for ever.Had a mild(well I told myself it was)ache for a while, and was ok after a month or so,wasn't as bad as I was led to believe.

Also a mate broke his ankle playing soccer, was next to him when it happened,he was back playing after 10 weeks or so,snapped badly,he said over summer it tickled at times when he woke up,as he warmed up walking it got better, and he massaged his other leg using aloe vera from plant and other natural stuff on it,worth a health shop visit maybe.

Anyone that can answer the question? Bruised bones? How long till they stop hurting?

Had a couple of instances. Seemed to have a half-life of at least a month, (half the pain after 4 weeks).

The first one, (ankle) I got sent to a physio, who used that electric shock tingly thing, which helped for a day or so after each session and I believe shortened the recovery time.

The second one, (shin bone) I didn't have that option, took about six weeks for the pain to get down to non-distracting levels. But then I'm a wimp.

I'da thunk a nurse would know all that shit, no?

Hate to be the bearer of unwelcome news babe but:

Average life span of men 70 years.

Average age of women 80 years.

Add another 5 /10 years for modern living style and there you go! :shit:

As you age life is great!

"Until you try move" and then "every" old injury and hurt cuts in to remind you how much fun you have had getting there!

Little things, like getting pissed, stoned, or even an orgasm are temporary respites but when they are over and done, guess what .... it all starts hurting again!

Sorry to hear about your ankle luv!

Using the body's natural ability to channel energy to where it's needed to provide healing is something everyone is capable of - most just don't realise it.

Most commonly called Reiki (although personally I don't feel the need to give it a label).

Walk it off.
May sound like bad advice and probarbly is, but on the too many occaisions when I have had broken bones /sprains/torn ligaments etc the best way to recovery for me after rest was to learn to use the particular limb how it should be used. For example, try walking slow and deliberate but properly without limping or favouring the good leg. It will hurt but its gotta be done at some stage.

I had a nail stuck into my shin bone when I was younger, it took 6 months to heal to the point I did not notice it. A few years ago I badly bruised my ankle, it is still weak & painful if I do something out of the ordinary, like diving with fins... I have had some solid thumps, steel on bone, which have healed in a matter of weeks.

I guess it depends on the nature of the injury but I firmly believe that keeping the circulation going, even toe wiggling, helps a lot.

I have a tube of hiridoid cream that I am massaging into the calf, the heamatoma is now many small lumps so is resolving well.

You would think so eh? Sadly this nurse did not do a lot of orthop-eadics, and has never broken a bone before.

Seriously though, I bruised my heel bone in a prang, and I'm sorry to say it took many months to come right . The heel was a shit of a place to bruise a bone with having weight put on it constantly.
I'm not sure where on your tibia you have bruised, but it may heal a lot faster because it would not be constantly being mushed into the ground like a heel - in theory!

How long is a piece of string?

The thing is you have damaged both legs. The haematoma is broken down by the body at a certain rate, so the more damage the longer it takes. Your body is healing both legs.

I had severe haenatona to both thighs, a shoulder and bicep. I had blood and fluid drained from around my knees for weeks, physio and massage. It still took 3 months to clear up.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thank you so much. I had a really cool PM from someone who offered up some other remedies to speed up the process of healing today, I am investigating his advice. One thing I have learned is the broken bone heals much faster than any other soft tissue injury.

This is my first broken bone of note, the pain of that is so diminished now, I guess my focus is on the other sore bits :pinch:

For joint recovery, try a glass of cucumber juice and string beans - I've done my knees in so much from doing judo and a chinese doctor got me onto this. Recovery from those injuries was sped up and my regular physio was astounded at how fast I was back to normal.

Just a glass every other day is needed!

After being home for a week. I was stumbling around the house. After 2 week I tried to lift the couch while cleaning.....

I don't recommend the latter. It returned me to week 1 status......
All up I spent about 6 weeks at home, before I was mobile enough to get a bus to Uni.

I think something happens with nerve endings around broken bones to limit or dull the pain, I don't think that happens around bruises.

All up I spent about 6 weeks at home, before I was mobile enough to get a bus to Uni.

I was too messy on drugs to consider getting out to work the first 2 weeks, felt much better after 3. I am into my 2nd week back at work, reduced hours to start with and coping reasonably well. The biggest problem is my shoulders and elbows are killing me.

I started very gentle attempts at weight bearing yesterday and can tolerate a little bit of weight every so often, I am heading to physio tomorrow to get some excercises to attempt to get a bit of strength back before the cast comes off in 2 weeks time.

What a kerfuffle! But I am highly motivated to getting back on my bike asap!

Awesome aren't they. I felt like a zombie. Mrs didn't quite understand until she got her morphine after her c-sect. In her words:
"Stew, that thing you sayed years ago about hopsital drugs, so true, I'm gonna nap a little now".

Felt so good to move when I was awake enough - I just went too far and tried to clean. Sucked being still and not doing anything.

FYI if you have good nerve damage - good luck.
Today at 10:14 it felt like someone had attacked my shin with a power drill, and their battery was dying.
No reason at all - and was over and done with in 30 seconds. My accident was 2004!!!!!

So, it is 5 weeks down and 1 to go. I went to physio last week to get some strengthening excercises to do and to get some advice about starting weight bearing again.

As a result I can now "walk" with the assistance of crutches. The plaster is not designed for weight bearing so it is not the best comfort wise but I have spent 5 hours at work today, getting around the office, the pain was ok for the most part, a couple of Tramadol sorted things at the end of the day.

I am very much looking forward to getting this thing off my leg. Hopefully the x-ray will show all is well and I will be away!

I have been given the happy news about what the state of my leg will be when the cast is cut off, have to say that part I am not looking forward too. Six weeks of hair growth that has not seen the light of day  and 6 weeks of dead skin "puke: Apparently the smell is "interesting" too
