I was JUST talking about this today. I want to tell him he's dreaming, but the truth hurts and I'm against violence.

Dreaming. I am actually struggling to think $5k is a fair price
For half that price someone could buy my one and i am willing to bet it rides the same!

$7000, that would buy one and a bit RC174 replica carb needles

NB cost French firm JPX $35000 to do six

I reckon he's hopeful, not dreaming. I don't see why such bikes if they are in immaculate condition should be worth less than what they were new, except for market trends. He's hopeful that it is much better than others on the market, and hopeful that somebody wants to pay more for the immaculateness!

But wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to get a no-so-immaculate one and clean it up yourself?
Unless of course you don't have the skills and either can't be bothered or have time to learn them

Well a not so immaculate one is still likely to be 4k, so an extra 3 would be worth it to the right buyer! Especially considering the cost of cleaning it up to a similar standard might be over a k if there is fairing damage anyway!

I don't think 7k is realistic, but I'm not looking at buying it anyway.
However if you were after a certain model (ie the nc30) and it was a choice between this and a scrappy sack of hammers, you may lean towards paying the premium as mentioned above..

The guy claims that it's cheaper to get rego for this than a cbr600 or r6; that's a bare-faced lie, they're in the same rego class (<600cc && > 250cc). Also, it'd probably cost more to insure than a cbr600 because if you tell the insurers that it's worth $7k then your premium will reflect this. If you go for a $5k cbr600 then that's less the insurer might have to shell out for a claim.
I'd steer clear of something that old at that price.

What a load of shit
Classic bike, why buy a scrappy CBR600RR or R6
I don't know, maybe because they don't have induction & suspension based on legacy technology?

well there rgv 250 k on there with a 7k buy now so compared to that its probably worth 10k , must be something in the water

Its on my watchlist, too.
$7k is a lot. I'm pretty sure there was a MINT NC35 at that price on turdme last year.
Having said that. if you want a mint one, just to have a mint one, AND its as good as it looks. then thats the one to have.
Granted its 20 years old. but still a fine handling motorbike: and if you own an Ohlins shock. and set of forks with emulators. new seals and springs and Ohlins oil. they handle OK too.
They're not a cult bike. and current/future classic for no reason. whereas CBR600's and R6's are just Kleenex: use them, wad them up. throw away.
if you pay $7k for that now. in ten years it will still be worht $7k, maybe more.

Meh.... I dunno. I doubt I'd get $7k for my RC46, and it's got Ohlins/Racetech front suspension, Elka rear shock, newish Michelin tyres, a Power Commander, EvoStar shifter kit, dual Fiamm horns, heated grips, Staintune highmount muffler, and a whole bunch of other shit. Oh - and it probably handles nearly as well, and goes a lot fasterer.

I used to think heated grips were for nannas. Till I got a bike with them. Having used them I think they're the business.

It's a price I'd normally associate with an NC35. He might not actually want to get rid of it, might be just a ploy to make the little woman think it's for sale.
