Unfortunate...we want to really encourage breastfeeding, but not quite to that extent!

We were in the Albany Mall yesterday and a lady was breastfeeding at Muffin Break. She was comfortably ensconsed in a corner on a couch and was being reasonably discreet and nobody seemed to mind at all. She looked at me as if to see my reaction but I just smiled approval and carried on.

Breast feeding is of paramount importance and should be treated with the uttermost respect and care!
Breast feeding should be allowed to occur whenever wherever but safety of both mother and child should come first, FFS!
Breast feeding is not and should not ever be seen as a sexual or offensive act and those that do hold such views should be shot, IMHO! (Sick cunts!) :2guns:
I would like to pull the trigger myself, a life sentence for me is getting shorter all the time so it would probably be a bargain!

so good it had to be repeated.
funny when we get hungry we stop and eat, and it does matter little if we look like total slobs doing it. But breastfeeding, ladies and gentleman bring out the smelling salts, one could see a nipple and a happy baby! Oh my!

Unfortunately we are surrounded by perverted ideas and people. The degradation of women to the status of mere sex objects flourishes and is reinforced by the media of all forms.

i think that is much older than that, my mother went into the "sideroom" in restaurants/at home etc to breast feed. I think with the advent of formula, breast feeding was looked upon as something archaic, and just disappeared. And of course before that the rich/well to do had nurse maids. So breastfeedig really was something only poor people did, their own kids and those of others if the mother did not have milk.
It still boogles the mind how anyone could consider breast feeding as offensive or sexual. its either feed the child, or support its screams. go figure?

I support breast feeding in public, but feel it should be done discreetly. As a woman, even I don't fancy seeing milk-laden boobies being flopped out indiscriminately even if for the purpose of feeding a hungry infant.
As for doing it while driving, all I can say is 'how on earth did she manage to keep a baby latched on without either holding it, or risking having her nipple bitten off by the clamping required?' It comes down to a safety issue - the same safety issue which makes it incredibly stupid (if not actually illegal) to drive with a kiddie sitting on your lap. Even if the babe was restrained in one of those new-age fandangled pouch thingies on the front the result of her having to brake suddenly would be disastrous for the baby wedged between her body and the steering wheel.

I wonder if she would do it while riding a bike .... if she was a biker that is? :ride: :corn:

Not a huge fan of it myself, a vast majority of mothers seem capable of being quite discrete about it, as natural as breastfeeding is.
Then again, a crying baby while I eat food easily surpasses this.

You might want to point out to the next one that they have changing rooms that have breastfeeding chairs etc.
Someone at the information desk should have pointed this out to her.
As for breastfeeding in public. yeah/nah. Its not that difficult to arrange your life around regular feeds.......why stay at home mums feel the need to spend the whole day at the mall/cafe.......well clearly shows they have time on their hands or money in their banks.

I was involved in an accident where a lady in another car was breastfeeding as a passenger. It did not have a good outcome.
Bloody stupid thing to do.

Maybe it was someone in a truck who spotted her, it is amazing the things you can see from a truck. Im all for breastfeeding and dont usually have a problem with it, but that is just stupidity.

Some mums subscribe to only feeding your baby if its hungry (probably a good thing given our obesity statistics)
And most mums will tell you they can tell the hungry cry from another cry

+1 with slight adjustment
Some mums don't get the choice :sunny: Funny thing about babies is that they have their own personalities and whilst some will take to a routine others wont. Also appointments and travelling times mean that feeds can't always fit in at home.

Given the reported driving that went with the feeding it is also likely to be a passenger in a passing car took a good hard look to see what was going on.

If they are worried about obesity they should stop feeding them after the age of 2. Its is almost impossible for babies to bulk up and keep that weight for the rest of their lives. Soon as they start moving they burn it like a rocket leaving orbit. Only reason for fat kids is lazy kids until the age of about 5. Then eating plays a part. If their still being breast fed then.....then mum has issues of their own.
Most mums will say the dumbest things. Claim to know the world then cry bloody mary when it doesn't go to their ideals. It took me to become a dad to realize most don't know anything. It amazes me the dumb stuff that is out there re: mothers advice on babies.
But then what would I know. My 4 month old now sleeps from 9pm til 7am, feeds regularly, had great weight/height, almost never cries and likes smiling and talking to people.
Bad parenting makes bad kids. They don't magically appear. Contrary to what most books say.

Arhh the wisdom of one that knows a single example :corn: At that age they wont be "worried about obesity" it will be more to do with personalities. If they are breast feeding then the risk of obesity is lowered anyhow.

Hahaha, Nah did my training being an uncle for sometime until I was confident enough to have me own. Collecting all the good bits as I went.
Not really keen on breeding until you get it right. Figured I give the first one the best shot I have.
But its really scary what some mothers suggest to other mothers. Do this, don't do this.........that cry means......always........
If they sat down and actually treated the kid like a living thing rather than a puzzle I think their perspectives would change.
Your correct re: breast feeding / obesity. However most mothers these days are breastfeeding + formula. So it is possible for kids to gain weight. But I still think obese babies are a non-issue.
But to get back on topic. Women do have a right to breast feed. But it does concern me with these naturalist hippie types who simply think.
"Ahhhh great he is crying again, what an opportunity to flop out a boob again"
There is discrete breastfeeding (which you would hardly notice) and there is full-on both boobs out, bra-less wonders which should not be encouraged.
I don't care what your naturalist/midwife/sister said........its plain wrong.
Don't like it ladies - express a get your husband to feed. Plenty of other places you can go flashing your boobs. There are needs to be some form of compromise. I won't change my son on the tabletop in the mall, you won't shine your both your moons there.
Seem fair?

Taking a dump is perfectly natural too, but I bet if I'm busting and drop my pants in the middle of a mall and squeeze one out, nobody is going to say "oh look, its so nice seeing sombody who hasnt given up on their caveman roots".
Or mabye I could be discreet about it and shit in one of those planter boxes they have?

They think that habits in early life in regards to feeding can lead to obesity in later life, not just the immediate effects
Most initially struggle, I think because of societies pressure to be the perfect ideal mother with the perfect/ideal child
You would be surprised at the maternal instinct and more often than not paediatricians will listen to mum even if the the presentation doesn't quite fit
Some babies do thrive off regular feeds, schedules and the like, other babies don't. I think thats rule number one on children - there is no one size fits all
I agree with the nuture>nature though
