So where does 106 Km/h along the Patetonga straights on a long weekend fit in?

Boy you north islanders are naughty. No bad speeders down here in the mainland!!

at 189kph we'd just about be looking for top gear. On the 675.

Given the speed at which Santa himself must travel to make his rounds I suspect he will actually have some sympathy....

I wonder if anyone has ever been clocked at more than 300kmh on a public road in NZ.

Love the Eltham Rd in the Naki, well is straight, but has cow shit on it.Man the odds of getting caught there are slim.

It is if the reading of 189kph is with both wheels locked up and smoking at the end of a 200m black line

189mph ( 302 kmph) on a Vincent in 1955.......does that count?

Those speeds just go to show the drivers were still exercising some restraint then! don't sound like max vehilce speeds at all.

AA calculated that in the last 5m before stopping, a car still held 25 per cent of its speed.

I really hope that quote is taken out of context from a specific speed given by AA. I can understand Harold not being able to Math, but would hope the AA at least put some effort into it.

Once upon a time yours trully tried to test the theory that radars only read up to 250km/h and thought I would be safe above that on a modded ZX9. (young, dumb and full off......)

Anyway, my theory got shot to pieces when i got pulled over and mr plod quiet happy with him self :Police: took me into his car and showed me flashing spped of 275km/h.

Got 12mnths loss of license and $1000 worth of court costs for my trouble

11 years later I have slowed down............. tincy wincy weeny bit :innocent::whistle:

Gotta love these...

"If you hit a kid at 50km/h, they've got around a 70 per cent chance of surviving. If you hit them from 80km/h upwards, there's almost zilch. So at 190 kilometres ... the survival rate is terrible, non-existent," she said.

So anything above 80km/h pretty much has the kid dead, then what the difference if the go 190 or 85??? Why even point out 190 if the kids dead at 80??? :weird:

Mr Morgan said only 6 per cent of drivers exceeded the speed limit by more than 10km/h, but they were "very high risk".

These "6%" are probably the only ones on NZ roads that know how to drive, it's great how they decide that the very few whom actually know how to drive are "very high risk"

I can just imagine our entire New Zealand population in Europe driving at German Autobahn speeds. It would be safe to say 2/3 of us would not survive beyond week one

Silly Mr morgan, that's not how you spell inertia!

bollocks, no evidence to suggest people who drive fast represent any different segment of driving ability from the population.

The two highest recordings were taken at the dead-straight stretch of State Highway 2 which ran past Lower Hutt.

Hmmmmmm, dead straight roads, obviously a black spot.

And i would also like to know the case study where they got the figures of

"If you hit a kid at 50km/h, they've got around a 70 per cent chance of surviving. If you hit them from 80km/h upwards, there's almost zilch. So at 190 kilometres ... the survival rate is terrible, non-existent,"

hmmmm silly me, its the AA, they make their own stats. How many children have been hit by cars at 190 km/h and the survival ratio was a confirmed what? Have they actually done testing for 190 km/h? Maybe the car is going so fast, the child may clear the vehicle and just end up with leg injuries without their head/torso ever touching the vehicle?

I find it difficult to believe that the top speed they have recorded was 194km/h. I suspect maybe their instrumentation doesn't go over 200km/h.

I also find some of there numbers hard to believe. At 189km/h you travel around 78m. A tad short of a football field's 100m.

The peripheral comment is interesting:

Automobile Association (AA) driver training manager Karen Dickson said a driver's hazard detection at more than 100km/h became increasingly difficult because at that speed peripheral vision was reduced to around 8 per cent
It seems reasonable that binocular vision would become more prominent. Especially if you fail to look further ahead. But 8% doesn't leave much ...

I spent 3 years making this realistic looking Masters of Statistics out of old Weetbix boxes and felt pens. Looks pretty...huh....huh....huh? :weird:

Also, You will find a copy of my CV attached. Please ignore the fact that it has someone elses name on it.

So..... Can I have my job at the AA yet? :msn-wink:

that top 10 list needs to be improved. This is letting sports bike riders down across the country. Bikes can go WAY faster than that!!

It's probably too hard to get a lock on a biker due to their smaller surface area :Police:

Well, dunno about radar but when it comes to laser guns, I got the local coppers to ping me with one once when I wanted to calibrate the speedo on the SV. The dude told me it was quite an art to get a reading from a bike, bein' as 'ow it were small, plastic and with not a lot of flat surfaces. Headlight prolly the best area to aim for.

My conclusion was that it probably takes a couple of seconds to get a lock on a bike with a laser. But then, I could be wrong on that too...I suspect a skilled operator might be quicker than my guy was - I think they were all training with the guns that day.

That's all quite interesting really.

189kph is less than 120mph.

That was just about my UK cruising speed AND I went a lot faster when the road was traffic free and straight.

Surely these stats indicate that you are unlikely to get caught at >200kph ?

Not a good message to be putting over and I am sure this is not the case.

It's all just a bit surprising. I was expecting to see >250kph recorded speeds

Have you slowed down over here ? I am not sure whether it is an age and responsibility thing, probably is, but back in the UK I never thought I was speeding until I hit three figures imperial, now I hardly ever go that fast.

Fuck.

Get me a 125.

It's 109Kph on my callibrated speedo now, all the way.

Yes I have grown up a bit/lot and I now realise that I do indeed have responsibilities and may be missed by some whom depend upon me
