View Full Version : Oil checks on Suzuki RMZ

Just checked the oil levels of my RMZ and am a little confused about how much oil should come out. I thought maybe just a trickle if the oil level is correct? The manual is very ambiguous, as it states that "if oil flows out when the oil check bolt is removed, the oil level is appropriate" BUT "If oil is excessive, let oil flow out of the oil level hole"
What do other Suzuki owners suggest please? Thanks.

The manual would be more accurate if it said "if oil dribbles out when the oil check bolt is removed, the oil level is appropriate".

If the oil flow seems excessive just allow it to drain until it becomes a dribble.

Mine (had Suzuki's for the last few years) have had a good solid stream out the check hole when the bolt it released.
I only ever undo the bolt and pull it slightly away from the casing to check it flows out and then replace the bolt.
As far as I'm concerned SLIGHTLY over filled isn't an issue and changing the oil every 5 hours means there should never really be any cause for the level to drop significantly.

Just put in how much the manual says to put in and be done with it.
Measure what comes out when you change the oil to make sure its not using any.

I think You can buy aftermarket covers that have the oil window which is much easier, thats what mine has (06)

Thanks guys! I had to remove the sump plug briefly and then topped up the oil, it's just hard to know how much to put back in. After my previous problems with the bike I don't want to risk not having enough oil in there.

Bloke above ya aint a bad bike mechanic, so i hear ! I'd probably listen to him rather than someone who says he'd rather have it over full !

Have to wonder just how much over filling it would take, for it to hydraulic and blow a sea mammal

to state the obvious, the oil level hole is just that. so when the oil is over that it comes out at either a dribble which is ok or it runs out , which could mean its been overfilled or that it's got something else in there.ie water. to hydraulic your bike due to overfilling you'd pretty much have to brim it,otherwise it will smoke and or pour out of your crankcase breather while its running
