View Full Version : Christchurch: I need help setting up suspension

Does anyone here know where in Christchurch I can get Ohlins suspension adjusted? I've got these thingies on my bike but have no clue what they are or what to do with them. The top pic is something that is just above the rear shock. I have been told all the Ohlins gear is not a standard feature of the bike.

Try DAS, they are suspension specialists among other things.

The front suspension looks standard. It's got Yoshi steering thing as well.

I'm loving the gixxer, it arrived 3 days ago. It has enough power to scare me, and enough power to make the front wheel feel quite light in 2nd gear. I still have to get used to the power because I went straight from a CBR250 to the GSXR600, but shit it's fun!

well a rear ohlins shock is a sweet enough bonus since u got the bike pretty cheap! good luck with the suspension set up. I just took it to the track during a club race day and had a pom set it up a bit for me. Suspension shit is tricky, static sag and rebound this and compression that.. Alot to learn.

Enjoy the bike! and the adrenalin

It wasn't my fault as I wasn't doing anything illegal or dangerous. I was keeping within my own lane and not holding any other traffic up on purpose. Better slow and safe than to try and out ride my own abilities and end up in a ditch, possibly taking someone else out in the process. You would have been the first to complain if I tried to ride like Rossi and wiped you out as well.

You're fucking having a laugh right d? He was a 'dangerous nuisance'?? Doing 80km/h? And you admit you're the one that came around a corner at speed and obviously passed very closely? If you're not taking the piss mate my opinion of you just changed a great deal.

Hey Chris I just replied to your PM, I'm more than happy to head out with you and help you with some pointers. Ride at a pace that's comfortable for you and help with your road craft. More speed will come with time once you've got the road craft sorted. Oh and don't worry about d criticising your riding if you had been going hard, I've watched him cut corners and tailgate other riders.

I will admit that I'm a slow rider, and I will admit that I need all the help I can get from more experienced riders in order to improve my riding. However, I don't think it's fair for people to be criticizing me or to pressure me into riding faster than what I am comfortable doing.

I know how dangerous motorbikes can be (go to www.bestgore.com to see pics and videos of bikers with their brains scattered all over the road), and I don't want to be another statistic. I have mates who tried to out ride their abilities, and they have ended up crashing and fucking themselves up. I have learnt from the mistakes of others, and wish to have many years of happy riding.

I broke my hand in a dirt bike crash in November 2010, and my hand still isn't completely right. I know too many people who have suffered life long injuries (like my mates dad who fucked himself up many years ago on a bike, now he can't even ride any more). I'd rather be mocked for being a slow rider than to end up with a life long injury, or worse. I have nothing to prove to anyone else by trying to be a fast rider, and I don't feel the need to show off to other people in order to prove how big my dick is.

I know where my limits are, and I am going to slowly build myself up to becoming a faster rider rather than to take a huge leap and become another statistic.

Best post I've ever seen from you mate. Love your trolling (been a great fan ever since) but it's great to see an attitude like this to riding. Don't get sucked into what others think or expect of you mate, and you'll ride for a long time.

Shit man... you know me beter than that
My 1st post in this thread states it was MY BAD... short memorys you lot.
Now by dangerous I mean wrong lines bad braking, ecalorating etc and yes again it was wrong of me to have asumed such a bike would be going so slow.

2nd... do not think for one minute I am mocking you for riding slow, I already said resepct for that, what I did say is noting that attude you are ready to lern more which means riding quicker, not racing, but tidy road riding.

FUCK you lot make it hard at times ;)

Found the riding info on the Flames On My Tank website really useful.

Plenty of great youtube videos on setting up suspension, if recall standard sag rate on rear for a dirtbike is around 100 mm - could go less if doing more road riding.
