2 stroke, how many track days before a top end rebuild?

Hey guys, just after a good guid for how often i need to do the top end on my NSR? AKA how many track days at a good pace will i get out of it?

Well, as no ones else has replied, let me share my thoughts. (remembering of course, that I know Nothing)

10 000kms to a set of rings
20 000kms - pistons and rings.

If it's a 'track bike only',- maybe half those KMs.

I raced a RGV250 for a couple of years and use to do a full rebuild & inspection before the begining of the season, and a top end pull down mid season new rings fitted and inspection of pistons, replaced if required. full rebuild was pistions rings small end bearings full inspection of the crank and power valves, any crank work as required if any thing was found. half a season would be 6 to eight race meetings & a couple of practice days, a track day should be about the same as race day in milage. This gave 100% relabilty (no blow ups). gear box and clutch where pretty bullet proof, just repaired as required, just plenty of oil changes.

Use the best two stroke you can get.

Sounds about what I expected. Top end has just been done so next in line will be the full rebuild (or at least full strip down).

The gearbox is a bit clunky on mine at lower revvs. Clutch or gearbox issue you reckon?

Honda gearboxs aren't the smoothest. Try another brand of 2 stroke gbox oil, Motul, bel ray whatever. Could also be the linkage is not parralel/right angled levers due to odd adjustment/damage & non std hangers, or the shaft has been bent. Or the clutch is grooved basket & grabby. Or there is a gearbox fault.

I have just rebuilt mine, running it in on the way to Manfield and then will see if it survives the track day on Sunday!

Just wait till your kids are old enough to remove an oil filler cap....I'd just finished a speedway sidecar motor and handed it over then I got a call from the owner....my little boy's just....well you can guess, there was a sandy patch in his back yard... Full strip down.

Do redline do a line of motorbike oils? I cant recommend their car gearbox oils enough. Worn synchros begone!

If they do its not common so no. Bike gearboxes are constant mesh. Try Motul or Belray 2 stroke gear oil & you will be safe in saying that you have a good oil plenty of people use.
