You have to give them full marks for the way they ensure you have to serve as much time on the restricted as they can squeeze out of you.
I understand your need to rant but, sorry, it is a bit like someone slipping on a banana peel. Not sure if it is amusing because of the number of times similar things have happened to me or relieve its not me.
Guess you are lucky she didn't say you couldn't sit until 6 months after you turned 25, which is another way to look at the rule. That it is a concession to those that have been on the restricted for 6 months whilst being 25. Now that would hurt.

Yeah there is a huge delay as everyone is trying to sit their test before the rules change.
I had to book a month after I was due to sit the test. Which is really annoying after paying for a defensive driving course to shorten the time.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I thought "Sweet, turning 25 will cut my Restricted waiting time down by half" Tried both on the net and by calling to book it for the day of my birthday. Found out I couldn't actually make the booking until my birthday.
Ended up being about 6 weeks after that I finally was able to sit the test.

If you wait until March, the full test and restricted test are swapping places effectively, which will save you a few dollars. Don't know if you book now for a test after Feb if you will pay the lower post-Feb rate, but I wouldn't count on it.

Class 6 (motorcycle) restricted licence tests
On 27 February 2012 changes will be introduced to graduated driver licensing system for motorcycles.
The restricted licence test will become longer and the full licence test will be shorter. In effect, both the test (and the test fees) will swap.

You do realise they still have over a year to wait? minimum learner age is now 16. Not 15. Minimum restricted age is 16 and 6 months. Minimum full age is 18 unless a defensive driving course has been done.

Sorry Scoober. The gubbermint is reflective of all the people who voted, so represents you even if you didn't vote for them. You might have voted for the team that came second or third, but it's the team that won that No argumen gets to make the rules, even for those that didn't vote for them.
Still, happy for you to believe in your right to disagree, coz I disagree with some of them too. No disagreement there.
But I comply with the rules I don't agree with, coz I respect the authority of those who we collectively elected, even if I don't agree.
Like, I think it's nonsense to have to wear a cycle helmet once you're over the age of 18. I think I should still have a choice. I think it has been counter-productive, as it has discouraged cycling as a fitness thing. But I still wear one when I'm riding.
Expecting the world to revolve around me has failed to work most times, so I don't do it any more.

legally you don't have to wear a helmet (remembering it's how it's written NOT the intent of the law that matters), you have to have one with you but you don't have to wear it... well, at-least not when I was checking the law to look for a way out of wearing 1 last year sometime, so unless they've changed it since then...
Nope sorry scrap that just rechecked you do have to wear one (however it never says it has to be on your head)... I'm still not about to tho :p

Bicycle helmets have been mandatory in New Zealand since January, 1994.[1] The statute, delineated in Part 11 of the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 (SR 2004/427), states that "A person must not ride, or be carried on, a bicycle on a road unless the person is wearing a safety helmet of an approved standard that is securely fastened." The law describes six different acceptable helmet standards.[2]
Violating the law can result in a $55 infringement fee and a maximum $1,000 penalty on summary conviction.[3]

and see not once does it say the helmet must be on your head, just says you must be wearing 1 & it must be securely fastened not once does it say it must be on the head as such it would be quite easy to comply with the law without the need to strap the piece of polystyrene to your head.
You'll also notice it's illegal to wear a superior motorbike helmet while riding a deadly peddle.
But this is another thread topic
As for licencing I have mixed feelings. If our system wasn't such a money grab I would agree whole hartedly that people without the right licence should be done.
But as our licenceing system is such an EPIC failure on every level, I'm not really sure if I care if people have a licence or not. People can either drive or they can't, licences in NZ don't represent that in anyway, they just showed the person had money & can see letters this big

He failed to give way to a car. No near miss, just a technical breach. I was just going to have a friendly chat, but then the licence thing came up.
Stopped a bloke today who has a full car, but no bike licence. No reg or warrant either. 250 Katana, old school. Chain was a rusty wreck, but the rest of the bike was very tidy, considering it's vintage.
Have given him 3 weeks to get the licence, WoF and reg or he'll have $700 worth of invoices appearing in his mail box. I'm about to start hassling him by text too, so he'll not forget.
My judgement was that this individual will actually do it, that's why he got the offer.
Remember that the POpo is under NIL obligation to do that sort of thing, so please don't start quoting it to the next Popo who stops you. In fact, probably I could get in the doo for it, but I'd rather he got fully legal than spent his dosh on fines.

Why get angry about something that everyone has to go through.
Because its fuking pathetic you cannot pre-book a test until you are actually eligible to do the test....For those who have an absolute cunt of a boss and need to book the time well ahead to get the time off to do the fucking thing....its fuckin bullshit....hundreds of c*nts riding around without the right licence those of us who wait paitently are punished....everyone knows how painful it is in those last few weeks before you can do your licence and to find out that you have to wait another 2 months.......thats why im angry....

A) no they don't, plenty of people are not disadvantaged by a 6R and are not in a hurry to pay the money and move to 6F when it has no clear adavantage. Nothin' wrong with a good 250.
B) you could ring around other testing places and find somewhere with an earlier booking available, they can't be ALL booked out until May.

Short answer. Book it online. Thats what I did to sit my 1R. I booked it over amonth before I was eligible, and then had a month to sort leave and someone to accompany me to the actual test. Then I had a month to iron out my bad habits.

Maybe not everyone but MOST people 6'3" and over are gagging to get their 6F.....my little 250 is great....can't do 100km/h in a head wind or going up a hill however.

There are valid legal exemptions in place now ... for larger members of the population. This exemption allows the rider to use an approved larger capacity motorcycle.
