Hi there,
My partner had a prank caller tonight at around 1:00am.
He was a sicko telling her how he was wanking himself and that sort of thing.
She has called the police and given them his number and name, I called him from skype and asked if Jason was there and he said "speaking", he sounded like a young falla who was half asleep in bed. I told him what I thought of him and he denied making the call (good ol caller ID doesn't lie).
Anyway if anyone knows someone by the name of Jason with cell number 0221702408,
Tell him he now has an enemy, the police has his name and number and he is a piece of shit who needs a bullet.
And feel free to call him and scare him a little if you want, he freaked out my partner so he deserves it.
Thanks

Just a suggestion.

That would be my call on it as well. Who would give their real name under those cicumstances.
One of my sons mates got a hold of my sons cell while it was unlocked. Changed all of the contact list names to Lord of the Ring characters.
Took him weeks to sort out. He had to text everyone to send back their name to find out which number was which person.

Hope the cops go put the frighteners on 'im. Hope missus Mad ain't too freaked. I once had a group of kids from a boarding school that used to call me on a friday and saturday night... funny idiots though. Next time, get missus Mad to ask for credit card details before proceeding.

I kinda miss prank calls from when cell's were new... People used to ignorantly think that because cellphones weren't attached to a line they couldn't be traced .
Oh the hilarity when we called them back, just wish I coulda seen the look on their faces when they got a callback on their "untraceable" cellphone.

If he has been set up, it shouldn't be too hard for him to figure out who has been mucking about with his phone - stiff shit for him if he gets in trouble, he can then narc on his mate and get them in trouble.

Misuse of a telephone is taken seriously by the phone companys ...
Misuse of network
112 Misuse of telephone device
(1) Every person commits an offence who, in using a telephone device,
uses profane, indecent, or obscene language, or makes a suggestion of a
profane, indecent, or obscene nature, with the intention of offending the
recipient.
(2) Every person commits an offence who---
(a) uses, or causes or permits to be used, any telephone
device for the purpose of disturbing, annoying, or irritating any person,
whether by calling up without speech or by wantonly or maliciously transmitting
communications or sounds, with the intention of offending the recipient; or
(b) in using a telecommunications device, knowingly gives any fictitious
order, instruction, or message.
(3) Every person who commits an offence against subsection (1) or subsection
(2) is liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3
months or a fine not exceeding $2,000.

Cops won't act till they believe the call was 'malicious' enough.
The details of the number (if known, prepay etc) will only be released to the police or your lawyer.
The records are only held for 6 to 7 days.

If a complaint is made ... they have to act on it.
Often better go directly to the phone company concerned. Their usual knee-jerk reaction is block the phone and delete the number. The old "this number is no longer in service" when you dial that number. No warnings ... No notice .... No excuses heard. DONE ... !!!
And the phone is useless to anybody.

All very good points, thanks.
I called Jason about ten Min's after he made the sick call, he sounded exactly as my partner described his voice so I'm in no doubt it was him that made the call. My feeling is that he may have got the wrong number BUT he decided to be a dumb ass and carry on about what he was doing and what he wanted to do. It was quite a graphic call from my understanding.
As I'm in Queensland at the moment, my partner has trouble sleeping at night by herself anyway and I have a five year old in the house, I took the call VERY seriously. I'm just glad I'm coming home on Monday so I can upgrade security at the house to make the missis feel more secure.

Do you have a friend that can stay with her? For whatever reason, she is scared and surely someone can stay with her.... you must be very stressed by this - as a man, you want to fix it NOW and you are in another country. A shitty situation.

The telcos protect the caller with privacy issues and in the end you wonder who the victim is.

I find laughing at them quietens them down. Have actually seen the evidence of this action. Semi erect penis turns inny when you laugh  Sometimes if they are close enough they actually run
How horrible for your partner, very unnerving I am sure. Nothing worse than being scared in your own home. Tell her to buy a gas powered horn, hand held. Have it next to the phone. These fucks prey on vulnerable females. I promise having a gas powered horn by the phone gives your partner POWER! If this dick (or his pathetic mates) attempts another call, all she has to do is fire off the horn. Caller gets bleeding eardrums, your lovely lady gets to giggle...

Yes, The call had been recorded. Police knew who to call in the phone Co. Within the appropiate time before calls were deleted.
Result. Court action by police and as I stated by the phone Co.
Other (unrelated) charges were also laid against this person. He was "A person of interest to police" ...

Other (unrelated) charges were also laid against this person. He was "A person of interest to police" ...our experience is wife receiving call at 2:00am on her cell phone (can be picked up on landline voicemail) from a telecom landline (when redialed would blow anyway), went to local cop shop, he checked out the number and knew, said it wasn't a malicious call enough as he was concerned,or a wrong number even though they knew all thenames, fuck off you you stupid complaining lady and have a coffee with the rest of them, ive got retirement to consider, she goes to telecom, who is this number and how many times has it called while we were away, oh no, we can only release those details to the police or your lawyer on request, privacy you know and all.........long story I am not telling but we have a huge letter from the corporation involved.
Busted but NO helps from NZPOLICE or TELECOM. The proof come about by the corporation checking off their phone bill.
edit, the call was not of a sexual nature, and was 3 months ago.

our experience is ...
I asked NO questions ... (That is as you found, "invasion of privacy") A written complaint was made to Police and phone Co. With dates and numbers involved. Copies kept and the copies were signed by both, to confirm a complaint was recieved.
THEY both had to act then. Police Complaints is the next step if they DON'T take action.
As for the phone Co. ... The question to ask is (if they hesitate) "Who is YOUR supervisor ???"
That usually gets their attention.
A trail of paperwork is hard to ignore.

A trail of paperwork is hard to ignore. My wife could not get the cop to act, community constable, so spade work was done ourselves with the number received. To my knowledge our village is home to some of the fastest toys on two wheels and four, so I know when not to push my luck, but what upsets women is totally different. Better result received than a prosecution but don't expect telecom or police to act because a contract says so.
Some slimebags work on a different level, and when they know how far to go within the the law, what upsets 'normal people' (whatever that is) is tough luck.

So after much deliberation, I have a good friend staying at the house to keep the missis from going stir crazy and as usual the police don't give a shit, Telecom has blocked the weirdo's number (thanks) and I have a locksmith coming to the house to beef up the door locks and windows.
To some this may be a small incident that doesn't warrant any action, but to me this is an attack on my family and I'll do anything I can to make them feel safe while I'm away.
As I've been robbed four times at a different house and home invasions are becoming more and more common these days, there is little people can do to defend themselves from this sort of thing except turn your house into a fortress.
I have an air pressure sensor alarm that goes off instantly when a window or door is opened anywhere in the house, my computer is a security camera that takes pictures when motion is detected and sends them straight to my email automatically, I have two good guard dogs and an array of weapons throughout the house, and the new deadbolts on windows and doors will make the missis feel a bit more secure as she doesn't think the other technology is good enough.
Now I just have to hope i never loose my house keys.

Your missus received an offensive telephone call that was probably a wrong number in any case, and you're ranting about the death penalty while ejaculating wads of cash all over the local alarm installers and locksmiths?
Nobody's coming for her in the night, dude. Just tell her to calm the fuck down.
If this is nigh on the most upsetting thing that's ever happened to you (and based on the number of exclamation marks in your posts, I suspect it is), you've led a very sheltered life.

Yepper. I nursed and lived in the nurses home. Those places seem to attract all sorts of weirdos, and not just the residents. A few of us went to town one night and managed to spend our taxi fare home :pinch: so we had to walk from the city to Greenlane hospital. A flasher, complete with trench coat and erection jumped out from some bushes in front of us. We were pissed enough to find it extremely funny, so much so that one was rolling around on the ground. The prank caller is a very bad man and yes, it was a crime. Probably about as heinous, in terms of actual impact on society, as crayoning rude words on the fence of someone you don't like, or doing an after-hours burnout in an industrial area.

I know, weird eh? I was walking on Greenlane Road towards Manakau Road one afternoon and this Humber 80 (yes I really am OLD) drives very slowly alongside me and stops a bit ahead of me. The driver leaned over and wound down the passengers window. There was a big German Shepard in the backseat. He called out to me as I got alongside me, he was asking the name of the road up there. I glanced into the car to answer and here he is, fly down, cock in hand, wanking for all he was worth. Honestly, I sniggered and told him he was not that impressive and the ones I had seen before were all way bigger than his and kept walking. He drove past me without a sideways look. Freak!

Nope. It's Sunday afternoon, I've been to work and the supermarket already, washed my motorbike, and begun drinking.
Telling someone they're wrong on the internet works well as a raison d'être right now, although I did just finish BitTorrenting every Monty Python's Flying Circus episode ever, so I might flip the laptop closed and switch to the 50" plasma telly shortly.

How would you react in that situation?
I'd look to be taking the anal opportunity while she was still turned on.

Gay porn and 'loosers', sounds like a book. Maybe you and beyond could write a book together. It could be epic.

The prank caller is a very bad man and yes, it was a crime. Probably about as heinous, in terms of actual impact on society, as crayoning rude words on the fence of someone you don't like, or doing an after-hours burnout in an industrial area.
I'm guessing you are trolling but just in case you genuinely believe the above, you are wrong.
A telephone call is a personal intrusion into another person's life. Usually a welcome and acceptable intrusion but the essence is, the contact is personal. That elevates obscene phone calls far above distant graffiti artists etc. Furthermore a call at 1:00am usually gets the heart pounding because it can mean bad news.
A person alone is vulnerable and this sort of nasty stuff can leave the victim imagining they are being watched, followed, at risk.
I understand and share the OPs anger and frustration when he is far from home and powerless to be there and protect his family, especially having experienced breakins in the past.

Surely blowing this completely out of proportion will make the op's misses even worse.
I would have thought playing it down as just a stupid prank would be the better option.
If she is already nervous then escalating security, bringing in the cops etc will certainly not make her feel at ease.
It's more likely to raise anxiety.
A one-off call is not something to go overboard about. Yes be unhappy but making the misses fear for her safety by going over the top!!

In the course of a former employment I had occasion to discuss security with many people.
Guys who work away from home for extended periods: seagoing crew, oil rig workers, etc, do worry about the safety of the wife and kids while they are away. It isn't at all uncommon for them to take some additional precautions: alarms of various sorts, new locks, fences, a big dog, whatever.
Some of these guys are seriously hard characters, but I don't think the wife getting an obscene call in the wee small hours would be taken at all lightly by most.

Don't be stupid, you can never be to paranoid and don't forget he can spot a sicko just by looking at them http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/141618-How-the-fuck-did-he-walk-free?p=1130144125#post1130144125

O.k so she called the cops, not me.
I had the security measures in place already due to previous burglaries (except the deadbolts), and I'm glad the trolls are still having fun :motu:

No trolling at all bro - deadpan as fuck. I thought for a second the thread was a failed troll attempt but the truth as they say is often stranger than fiction.
FFS if you get that wound up about some tosspot prank calling your missus then you've got problems. But evidently paranoia is your middle name

Truth is his missus was cheating on him, she found an easy way to end the cheating by saying it was a prank caller and calling the cops.

Hi there,
My partner had a prank caller tonight at around 1:00am.
Thanks
Can I have ya wifes number instead?
