I was there last week and there's at least two I saw - one on Carlyle St in Sydenham, about five doors down from my work (the Triumph dealers), and there's another one on the road out to the Junction in Riccarton.

I could be wrong (frequently are) but I didn't think any bike shops had permanently closed as a result of the earthquakes

Sportzone Suzuki and Just Motorcycles closed their doors for good.

'Just Motorcycles' in New Brighton? They certainly didn't reopen after Feb 22 although there may have been other factors at play too. Ran into Ian the other at Hampton Honda and I guess I'll be throwing some business Roger's way too as he's not too far away from home and a knowledgable mechanic.

Sportzone were long gone before the earthquakes though

Sportzone closed just prior to the Feb earthquake. Financial reasons. They remained open after September as they hosted Street and Sport (?) for a bit.

Actually good point I dont really count September as the main event and yes it was Street and Sport, but the closure of Sportzone was unrelated to the earthquakes

Wasn't there a small bike shop or 2 on Manchester St a few shops North of Casbolts that hasn't reopened anywhere?

Street and Sport? Carlisle St now? Or was there a more recent one right on the corner past Street and Sport with some European bikes?

Jimmy the mechanic ho used to work on the Beemers at BM Rides in Ferry Rd set up a workshop there. People take their bikes to him coz the BM dealer took two BMW car mechanics, and overnight turned them into bike mechanics. Yeah right.

The workshop you mention is BMS, Jimmy runs it.

Don at Pit Lane disappeared from Manchester St too. Apparently he works a day or two a week from a workshop in Darfield. That might be the Manch St one you mention that went missing.

The one just north of Street & Sport (on the corner Manchester & Welles St) I think dealt with Moto Guzzi. They also shared with Sportzone also after the September quake as I remember a few new Guzzies in there. Can't remember what it was called though.

More like not to many shops left in the CBD but as for bike shops...
Seems to me that the majority of bike shops are still operating or have now re opened though some have moved if you look for them.
There's several down Moorhouse Ave now too.
