But watch the start very closely. A green clad rider on a green bike has been to the Pete MacDonald school of holeshots, or was the master at said school who learned Pete.......

nah it's Wayne Marshall, he was king of the quick starts those days but faded after a couple of laps or everyone else got up to speed.

I like how they throw the bales so far across the track to keep them from burning they nearly block the track!

best you get your eyes checked i'd say; did you actually see the size of "the control truck" that managed to sail through there at a quick rate even when there's 1/2 dozen bikes stopped in the track?

Was the commentator that wanker Tony Palmer:tugger:?
He tried to get a bribe from a mate that was in the NZ rally to say his companys name on tv.

I did learn eventually mate. Just took a while and a few fairing panels!
I know a lot of people look back and say "those were the days"...but it sure was a fun/strong class back in the day. And such fucking cool bikes.

That's what I'm talking 'bout!!
I was in that race, all of them that weekend. Didn't get lapped in that one!!! Yay. #120, blue leathers with white shoulder and elbow patches, mid feild.
But one thing I regret, is that it all happened so fast that I have no memories of any of it other than the photos (which are few) and videos.
Love the 6 across the line in a straight line for the start grid, 18th century really.
#134 Loren Poole
What ever happened to Tonto Bush #4? He was a pretty hard charger as I recall.
They really were the days, and they really were pukka bikes, but I have a strong feeling that the current 250 class is getting back there, step by step.

That's why I write rather large blog posts for every race day I do (well except for one particular one where there was a large gap between the toys and the play pen). I've got a memory like a sieve so I have to write this stuff down as soon as possible otherwise it's lost for good.

Loren Poole went on to work for Britten briefly I think. Never really knew Tonto, but yeah was a hard charger for sure. I still see Tony Sampson from time to time. He's still a hard nut too. Bruce Ainstey always pops in to say 'hi' whenever he's back in town too.

Pretty sure Loren Poole was the main development rider for the Britten V1000 for a fair while. Him and Jason McEwan raced a pair of them for a couple of seasons.

Actually it would be sort of really neat to know where the riders are these days. It was a pretty tight community the old 250 Proddy community with riders in each region really being mates. I was in Auckland at Uni in those days so our little AKL/Tauranga community was pretty tight.
I was #120
Poole #134. He went from AKL Uni to Buckley Systems then Britten then Team NZ and is still there I understand on part time contract while running his (parents) orchard down Katikati way. He raced and developed the Britten for a while.
Wynton Tuck, not sure number. Out the back of Katikati now.
The white and green NSR on row two was a nice guy, opened an icecream parlour in St Heliers. Can't recall his name now.
Kevin Goddard. Did he get to race in this one after falling off in the 1/2 hr race?
Clive Mancini
Of course all the front row: Cole, Sampson, Tonto, McCutcheon, Hepburn, Poole
Second row? Ramage, can't recall any others.
I don't think Anstey was in this event was he?
Anyone have the programme? I guess all the entries will be in it.

Yes Steve I did get to race ya cheeky bugger, I know you could probably not see me from that far back!
I have the program and result sheets...remember...
Yes what happened to Tonto... (Clayton Bush)I gave him a brand new Yokohama 003 rear tyre that year at the final round of the nationals and he promised to pay or to get me another tyre, last I ever heard or saw of him. Man they were expensive hoops when I think back...racing is far cheaper today than it was then.

Hahahahaha, I just mean't that I wondered if you had broken something that might have put you out.
Any chance of scanning said programme page and results for me/us?
Back then I didn't really care where I was, just that I was out there having a go.
Racing certainly wasn't cheap as a student, that was for sure. But somehow we got out there and had a go.
Boy, 1990, it is no wonder I don't remember it........

I hope it wasn't me that collected him. In the 1/2 hour a lapper shut the door on me going into Higgins. He let Cole, McCutcheon and Rammage (I think that's right) through, then came right across in front of me going about 20-30 kmh slower. I had already commited to the inside and simply had to brace for impact. Whoever it was went down in a heap.
