7th Annual Kiwi Biker Gathering -Taupo - Queen's Birthday Weekend, 2-4 June 2012

Back due to popular demand! Same as previous years 07/08 and 09/10 for the KB Gathering.

*However, we do have a change of venue/Accomodation this year, we will be based in Taupo
Why

WHAT IS THE KB GATHERING?
Kbers (kiwibikers) from North (Auckland/ Northland/waikato),South
(Wellington/Wairapa/Manawatu South Island (Christchurch)East(Bay Of plenty/Hawkes Bay) and
West(Taranaki) converge together in Taupo and have a bloody good time over the three days (or 4 if you head down earlier)


WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Friday
Some of us will make our lesuirely way down on the Friday. This day is optional as the main part of the "Gathering" is from Saturday to Monday.


Saturday
Regional groups ride to Taupo on Saturday (obviously you wouldn't ride direct, as its a
good chance to explore some roads on the way there), meet and greet Saturday arvo over a beer or two. Settle in for the night. there are hot pools close by and we are staying in the heart of Taupo for restaurant conniseures:yes:

Sunday
Go for a ride or Multiple group rides (depends on group numbers) Here are some suggestions, Taumaranui Saddle, Lake district - Dessert Rd -Ohakune way- Napier/ Hastings (preferred choice)-forgotten highway etc .....
Please suggest ideas for rides in the thread, the actual ride will be decided on the day or night before weather dependant!


Saturday/Sunday night could have a group BBQ or have a dinner at a Restaurant and drinkies etc.....

Monday
Say our goodbyes and head our separate ways home.

Just to let people know who are going to attend this KB Gathering Qkchk and Qkkid will be away in Thailand for 3 weeks prior so please keep this thread updated and just let us know the numbers so we have a idea whos coming also we are looking at doing the Gentle Annie route through Waioru to Napier and back to Taupo for a days riding for those interested:scooter: It is all tarsealed now it has been for about a year so it s a great ride for those keen.

I have just been in touch with the people down in Taupo for the accomodation ( look at first post for the accomodation) and there is still some rooms available with 4 beds in them you can book a bed in one of those rooms and share only with one of our Kiwibiker people who book so you will only be paying for a bed in that room. so that it is secure with only our guys in it.

I have taken the first bed in a shared room, 4 singles in the main room and a double in a separate room (not sure how many of these configurations there are, but there is more than one). All rooms with doubles are taken.

Guess I'll see you dirty lot Saturday... as Sharry said, who's doing what route, I'm also open to being TEC for a route (probably the longer one) :lol:

We will be going south via Pirongia Tekuiti Taumaranui over the saddle into Turangi and around the lake into Taupo

We can discuss route more thoroughly at 8:30am -9am at the BP Autobahn Papakura as there are a few options open to people ie doing Forgotten Highway on the way for those interested.

Drove from Hamilton to Palmerston North yesterday and the roads aren't in too bad a condition... Most of the roadworks seems to be over Tauranga / Rotorua way.

Looking out the hotel window and it's another clear morning - not a cloud in the sky! Gotta drive to Wellywood today then catch a big bird back home. Luckily I already have the pack rack frame installed on the BK as I'm going to have stuff all time to pack!

Not sure about East cape at this point - the group is likely doinng the Gentle Annie - plus my family are coming along as well so I'm thinking the shorter ride on Sunday might the way to go, seems a bit selfish it have them tow along along to be gone all day every day.

Thanks Dawn and Steve - another great weekend away.

Loving the new tyres Cyclethreads fitted this afternoon, would have been nice to have them on for the weekend but the old ones had the 1500kms in them. BTW the nails didn't actually go through into the carcass so we could have taken the long way home which would have given me the extra 40kms I needed to clock over 100,000kms on the trip.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to organise the run it was primo.
