Now I am not going to swing either way on this untill more facts have come out, but ........

A motorcyclist has crashed in Waverley, South Taranaki, while being chased by police.

The rider went down on Weraroa Rd, State Highway 3, about 8.20am.

The extent of the rider's injuries are unknown.

Emergency services and the Serious Crash Unit have been called to the scene.

More to come.

Shall see how this unfolds

I prefer the phrase

"running from the Police" as opposed to being "chased by the Police"

Throttle and brake are on the same side of the bike

Don't worry the police wouldn't have been chasing at the time, they would have pulled off 2 mins before the crash as per police procedure :shifty:

wo investigations have been launched after a motorcyclist crashed during a high-speed police pursuit in South Taranaki this morning.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority will investigate the crash as well as a criminal investigation after the man came off his bike in Waverly about 8.20am.

The motorcyclist, who was using fake licence plates, had been evading police for about 20 minutes before failing to take a corner and crashing on Mangatangi Rd.

He was taken to Whanganui Hospital by St John ambulance with back injuries.

The man, who is in his 20s, is in a stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Whanganui sergeant Andy Reid said the rider was clocked by police doing about 130kmh near Waitotara when police began pursuit.

Police then called off the pursuit after losing sight of the bike and began a search for the man, Reid said.

The rider was then spotted in Waverley and a second chase began.

Police again lost sight of the motorcycle before coming across the crash site.

Police again lost sight of the motorcycle before coming across the crash site. Sure they did

I'd suggest that its not a fact of keeping up but rather keeping safe.. Was it in a school zone, was the rider taking unnecessary risks, was the rider placing other road users in harms way etc.

The great thing is that Comms have oversight and overall Command and Control, the rider, well he just has his own judgement and clearly riding a bike that had false plates I'd suggest was the first of many mistakes this knob made.

A high speed police chase has left one man in hospital after crashing his motorbike in South Taranaki this morning.

Police say the motorcyclist clocked 133kms an hour when they pursued the vehicle, but the chase was quickly abandoned after the power 4000cc motorbike reached excessive speeds.

The motorist was sighted again, but quickly disappeared before he came around a bend and crashed in Waverley.
The man is reported to have been conscious and speaking when he was taken to hospital.

Farkin idiot but theres a 4000cc bike?

Not an initentional hijack...

I saw a guy outside the local WINZ office this morning with what looked to be an ancient and fairly decrepit farm bike. He bump started it and rode away, no helmet, just a hoodie.

A short while later I saw the bike parked *in* the entrance way of a bank. On closer examination it was obvious that there was no number plate, warrant, or anything else much. Obviously he couldn't park it in the bike park just up the road where it could attract the attention of the parking wardens.

I know there don't seem to be many cops on the road these days, but he and the hero of the original post may be unrealistically optimistic about not bumping into a chance patrol car?

well that was probably his problem, keeping a 4000cc bike within speed limits must be a challenge, unless of-course it's a Harley then it'd have to be the 1st ever Harley to be able to exceed speed limits so no wonder he was using that ability I'd show that shit off too :D

Come on guys lets be fair says was clocked 130 when before pursuit. You cant rewrite it for effect.
He may have double that the minute sirens started.

He stole a bike and wiped out.Maybe he wont steel your bike next week.Hard luck I say and good news he didnt injure other people.

The pity is that if he's going to destroy someone else s hard earned ride at least he could have rubbed himself out completely doing it.That way there's no ACC payout, no jail fees for keeping the prick for years on end and of course no ongoing legal aid and other associated fees that this sort of low life have hanging around them all of their actual lives.

Reading that it would seem the Police practiced restraint. A 400cc bike even a sport one, isnt going to outrun an SV6 by any amount in real terms.
To me that would indicate the rider was probably going balls out, and as is often pointed out by persuit drivers, the pursuer is often looking in the rear view mirror far too much trying to see where the pursuer is.

In the unlikely event that the offender is put in jail, it will only be for a couple of months at most.

Stealing a motorbike is hardly a serious crime according to the NZ government.

Difference between meaning well, and doing well is,

Meaning well is doing something right by your definition,
And doing well is doing something right by someone else's.

The saying should be

'Ride to the conditions, when they change increase your speed.'

Busa Pete said so. So it must be right.
