Was thinking about going for a bit of ride down there to watch the racing.

I'm keen to head down reasonably early in the day if there is a bit of a group going.

I'm definetely going if the weather is OK. Metservice says there's meant to be rain on Saturday.

If it's pissing down with rain all day then it won't be much fun standing outside getting soaked.

I'll see how the weather plays out closer to the time before making a decision.

So I'm thinking that I might leave Christchurch at 0900 and take the "scenic" route there via Darfield, Glentunnel and the Rakaia Gorge which is a slight detour.

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=christchurch&daddr=-43.48534,172.07517+to:methven&hl=en&sll=-43.64423,172.14159&sspn=0.821855,1.234589&geocode=FerAZ_0dQThKCikB7cVjSC8ybTFFmXmEhu8ABQ%3BF WR3aP0doqhBCil9Y9pXqAcubTEQU3lMhu8AEw%3BFckzZv0d6B 87Cind9W-Q-tEtbTEwjnmEhu8ABQ&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1&t=m&z=10

Anyone keen?

Good route, we went down one year via old westcoast road and cut in at racecourse hill, were on trail bikes but ya can come out at sheffield on road bikes and connect onto the same back road that goes to coalgate, bit more interesting that way, less traffic and cops. Discovered why they gave windwhistle its name :D

So do we want to leave at 9 or 8 given it's 90 minutes ride at least and the racing starts at 9.30? I suppose there won't be much missed in the first hour but...

If anyone is keen to meet up I will be at Caltex on the corner of Russley Rd and Yaldhurst Rd on Saturday for a 0900 departure. I plan on going via Darfield and Windshistle on this route here http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=christchurch&daddr=-43.48534,172.07517+to:methven&hl=en&sll=-43.64423,172.14159&sspn=0.821855,1.234589&geocode=FerAZ_0dQThKCikB7cVjSC8ybTFFmXmEhu8ABQ%3BF WR3aP0doqhBCil9Y9pXqAcubTEQU3lMhu8AEw%3BFckzZv0d6B 87Cind9W-Q-tEtbTEwjnmEhu8ABQ&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1&t=m&z=10

If anyone is keen to go then meet just before 0900. If the weather is bad then I will take the short way via SH1 and Rakaia.

I went for the 6F test last year and the only hard part was having to do it in heavy rain. :weep: I still passed first time round though. :first:

Apparently the full license test is easier now since the new driver licensing tests came out a few months ago. Just remember to turn your head enough for the instructor to see each time you go past an intersection to check for traffic. Don't stress about it too much. Relax, take it easy and you'll be fine.

PS. Make sure you come to a COMPLETE stop at a stop sign. Put both feet down and check both ways for at least a couple of seconds. If you don't do this you'll fail the test!

Have always done it. I come to a complete stop in my car aswell, Thats why a red bus hit me at the stop sign at the intersection of blenheim rd and middleton street lol:facepalm:

Was easy. Didn't even have to tell him the hazards i saw.
Only thing he mentioned is that was riding in the right hand wheel track of the cars infront of me and that its too far to the right. I should be in the centre of the road when its dry......So much for ride right ride safe eh?

Where you were is safer.

Where I like to ride, can see what traffic coming your way is doing better.

Whats your take on why it is safer ?
