View Full Version : Licence condition "correct lens must be used" vs Lazor Sugary?
DODO``

Right,
About a month and half ago I went to AA to apply for restricted licence.
Filled out the form, passed the eye test, took a pic, and paid.
waited month and a half , got a day off, rented a 250 cc motorcycle from mate.
Went to sit the test this morning, the officer tells me he can't take me out as I have "correct lens must be used" as condition.
Now, I've got a laser surgery done on my eyes 2 years ago, so I have perfect eye-site, but I was asked to re-visit the AA.
So walked out from the testing station, went back to AA Takapuna and found out that the guy behind the counter (who were training at the time) should have written me a temporary licence with the condition erased, upon applying! (can't just pass me the eye test and leave the condition). I even mentioned the guy about the sugary while applying.
At the end I got the time re-scheduled. and have to wait another full month!! damn!
now, what I think is a bit mis-leading is that I AM using the "correct lens". what Ive basically done to me by having laser surgery done is putting permanent lens inside me which makes it not only the most expensive but the most "correct lens" there is.
I've tried to explain this to the testing officer but he can only accept contact lens and glasses. I beg to differ because what I've done is most "correct lens" of them all!
anyway.. that was my little tale about the licence condition this morning.. don't make the same mistake I've made, if you have done a eye surgery, remind them to update when applying for your next licence, if they don't ask..

These days it pays to confirm everything anyone does to your satisfaciton before you leave anywhere. This goes for everything from fast food orders to supermarket receipts to bank transactions. There is simply too much incompetence about to chance it now. If this means holding up others, so be it.

Sorry but have to disagree. What you've done is have your natural lenses corrected, you are not wearing corrective lenses.
I know the administrative fuk up hurts and I feel for you on that but they were probably going to try and find some other excuse to fail you so you had to pay again anyhow, remember they now have to fail over half that they test.
Also remember there will be retards out there that should be wearing corrective lenses that are not due to vanity, ego or whatever and it is hard enough for the authorities dealing with them. Doesn't help you I know, sorry.
As for your last bit of advice, which is good, I would add that if you get lasered get your license updated or one day you will meet :Police: doing a license check and it will cost you more than a resit to argue your way out of that one.

Hang on, have you had laser surgery to correct your vision or had corrective lenses inserted? if the later, then technically you still wear corrective lenses - just on the inside.

yeah, its later, I do have lil piece of lens inside my pupil. and yeah, that's exactly what I told the tester word to word. haha :eek5:
There are 2 types, one you can only get away with just laser. The other is laser + lens!

yeah.. you are right.. something definitely was 'off' about today's incident. as least AA admitted they made a mistake and I didn't have to pay again,, was pretty shitty I had to go thu all that and wait another month for someone elses mistake, (took a day off from work and borrowed bike from mate who lives on the other side of the town)
and the funny thing was I already had "proved" my eye-site while applying for the test at AA 1&1/2 month ago, haha

count yourself lucky you didn't have to pay again but it is shitty that to get that far you had already proved your eye-site was ok and then someone what is not testing your eye-site bounces you and don't bother to even check your story. The lack of checks and balances allows them to be little dicks of the tator variety. Still if you could have forced them to take you for your test they would have just found an excuse to fail you and then you would have not only had to wait the month but also pay the dollars. :eek5:
For the testers view point he can only go by what's on the paper work but when told the paper work is wrong he should cross check. I fell they are so wrapped up in making the test 'hard' that they forget how much it does cost people, like time off work etc.
Test the ability on the road not the paper work etc

There are different types of optical lens. For example; Telescopic, Magnifying and corrective. The condition of your licence refers to corrective lenses and I think it's safe to assume that you'd be wearing the correct corrective lenses, rather than someone elses.

So you want the testing officers to hold everyones hands and wipe their noses too? why should they have to make follow up checks because someone showed up to do a test with an incorrect licence?
People won't like this, but it is his own fault he wasn't allowed to sit the test. OP mentions being given a temporary licence, which would have meant a new licence was on its way, and with a 6 week delay between booking the test and actually sitting it, meant he should have had the card with him on the day, if not at least 3 weeks prior. You are told to check the card you receive carefully to make sure all details are correct. Surely a condition stating 'corrective lenses required' having had your eyes fixed two years prior would raise some concern?
TL,DR?
OP is whining because he was ill-prepared.

Yes, because just like the police, I expect them to be semi intelligent people capable of discretion and common sense as opposed to mindless bureaucratic jobsworths hell bent on following inflexible procedures to the last detail. Unfortunately, that's hardly ever the case in this little island.

The only reason a paper temporary licence was to be issued (if I understand correctly) is that the OP's vision was sufficient to pass the eyesight test without corrective lenses being worn. The temporary licence unfortunately wasn't issued at the time of booking his restricted test so I doubt he was asked to check any conditions.
Still his fault?

He didn't get a new licence, that's the point. He went in to book his resricted test and they tested his eyesight, which he passed. They should have issued a temporary licence at that stage for the sole reason that the corrective lens condition was no longer required.

He was given a temporary licence, which shouldn't have had the condition on it, the AA kid cocked up, but OP didn't bother to fix it before his test?
Its a simple task of calling NZTA, explaining the problem and getting a reference number, going down to where ever you like for the new licence, and getting the condition removed. The worst that will happen is it costs 38.20 if it was your own mistake.
When you booked your restricted (out of interest) OP, were you told to check your horn, lights, WoF & reg status, and your licence? Because you should have been. At the end of the day, the AA kid did screw it up. But you have the final responsibility to make sure everything is correct.

A mate of mine is blind in one eye. He has to pay quite a bit every time he renews his licence to an eye doctor who proves to the bureaucrats that he is still in fact blind in one eye. They can't have him sneakingly regaining his vision, all secret like. Tossers.

I've been stung with the eyesight certificate thing before, a lot of people can't pass that machine, because its a very simplistic design. Some people can't pass because they have one eye weaker which compensates for the other a lot more strongly. The optician tests are different, as they allow a bit more leeway between eyes.
It does suck a bit for your mate though. Lucky its only every ten years?

Lol. Yeah Mum does too. Its like $30 at the place down the road from work, and then $43.90 for the renewal. Medical if you have fun classes. Taxi drivers get stung quite a bit more though!
