View Full Version : How often do you check your tyres, chain, etc?

Occurred to me last night that I hadnt checked the bikes tyre pressures in about two weeks.
Normally I check it every weekend when I go for a ride, and lube the chain at least once a week.
Turned out the rear was sitting on 25 odd psi, explained why it felt a bit odd.
I probably have a slow leak.
Anyone else find they need to top their tyres up on a weekly basis?

Check tyres every two-three tanks or weekly.
Lube chain every 500km.
I've never had tyres lose pressure that fast

I check the tyre pressures on the gixxer at least once a week and lube the chain every 2 or so tanks of fuel. I clean the chain with a plastic kitchen brush and kerosene every 1,000km.

where is the “responsibility of the household penis” option?

Everytime I buy a new bike.
Chain and tyres get a quick visual inspection before starting up and heading to work in the morning, along with the brakes & oil level.
Chain gets lubed every second Sunday and tension measured, tyre pressure check and top-up once a week.

You don't need to worry about what a chain is. You've got a Scott oiler on your drive belt :scooter:

I visually check my tires every time I take her out, look for cuts, nails, check the tread depth. I check the tire pressure and pump them up if needed every weekend. I also give the rear drive (Boulevard shaft drive) a look every time I ride her, check for oil leaks.

BMW... no chain to check :nya: and the pressures are checked more than daily, and whenever I feel like it, as it has a tyre pressure monitoring system, available through the dash, and also warns me when pressure drops to critical levels (handy when you've got a puncture etc) - which is about 2/3 of the recommended pressure.
Hornet... pressures are normally checked weekly to 2-weekly. Depends a bit, but also on the tyre. Some tyres hold their pressure extremely well, others not so well. You quickly learn and adjust to suit. It even varies on the exact same model of tyre... just a manufacturing thing. Chain... uh... barely look at it, especially since having the shaft on the BMW. It has an oiler, I try to check that the reservoir has oil... I can also feel if the chain is getting slack, but with the oiler it actually stretches very little between services.

Shit I'm bad. I lube the chain on a Friday after work if it rained that week and I remember, check the tension when I think it needs adjusting, every couple of months or so. Check the tyre pressures if I am going for a long run - every six weeks or so, but they hold their pressure well. If I can see the tread as I walk up to the bike all is good. The only time it gets washed is when it goes in for a service or WOF.

Depends how lazy or stoned I feel, sometimes with the road bike I will check the tyre pressure everytime I go for a ride and lube the chain when I get home when the chain is nice and warm, sometimes it might be a week or two between checks and lube. Dirtbike gets chain and cables lubed after every ride.

I check the tyres before each ride, which is at most weekly these days. Chain lube done at roughly 600km intervals which equates to about every 3rd tank :pinch:

Oh damn umm so yeah, I never check tyre pressure (probably why I suck on corners) but hey I lube they chain every week maybe 400-500k's
Give it a good clean with some kerosene too with a chain brush i got from cycletreads every now n again.
I"m going to go out and check my tyre pressures tomorrow!!

I have a tyre pressure sensor and scott oiler so life is easy (and relatively safe) for me!

I lube my chain after each ride where I fill up with fuel (and I fill up about once a week), or if I go for a long ride I put a small amount of lube on afterwards.
My tyre pressures don't change much. I used to check them weekly, but I now only do it about once a month.

There's been two each time but ya can't be too careful

Since that is not an option in this house I generally check before each ride (sometimes its a few weeks between rides)

Don't you adjust and lube yer belt?
I check and change the oil for the primary drive chain every 16,000 km and check the the belt drive every 8,000 km.
Thats enough fucking around, why anybody would buy a vehicle that needs maintenance every week is beyond me.

I check my tyre pressures when the bike starts to corner funny.
I look at the chain when it starts making funny noises when I chop down a gear.
I wash the bike when I can't read what make it is any more.
