Interesting ride in this morning, shite visibility, cars switching lanes without indicating (well done the chap on the bike in front of me), soggy bollocks (ahhhh now my gear has been tested) and I really didn't think that was awkward enough, so I figured to make things interesting that I'd call on the great biker gods to have a footpeg fall off half way down Nowronga gorge. The cheeky scamps thought it'd be fun to do whilst going for the back brake, or before, not really sure when it disappeared, but it gave me a wee shock as I wibbled in the traffic for a second or two. I don't fancy my chances of getting it back? Anyhoo, that's gonna leave me with an interesting journey home.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to a temporary fix?

oh :shit: I lost my left side one once but was able to use the pillions peg instead to get he bike home. Not pleasant and I adjusted my travel times to avoid as much traffic as possible but of course Murphy had to have his fun. I don't think you will have that option.
What have you to work with. Paul's long bolt suggestion with a nut and washer each side of the bracket sounds good if you have a through and through hole to work with.

Place foot in your hole until you get replacement.

Ahh...the old "Commuting on a big Italian Twin while it disintegrates around you" syndrome....
I know it well.
Washing the Guzzi just this last weekend, noticed both front bolts were missing from the rear footpeg/muffler brackets....and both rear ones loose....go figure....
Got any idea where the peg is? I can look up Newlands Road on the way home if that's your way to work.

 Thanks for the timely reminder to check the tightness of everything that's screwed on or bolted in the bike before a ride.

Just in case anyone is heading that way, 'orrid day for it, it was splitting between the middle and right lanes and noticed it just as turning left out of sight of the speed camera on the Nauranga Gorge. Fecked if I know where it will end up, but may end up heading out in the car tonight. Tis a roond silver cylinder :). Beer is offered as a reward :)... Check yer nuts folks...
Will probably ride home with it in it's current state and train it in tomorrow TFIT as the bolt won't come out for sizing dur to the swinger in the way. Probably just as well or the brake woulda been dangling etc...

Put a pillion peg on the front Mashy, I had to do that with my VT250 spada, got a nice jolt of sciatica just as I was hoping off and dropped it on my leg
Place foot in your hole until you get replacement.
Can I put my foot in your hole?

So, you mean like this footpeg?
noooooooo... I added aftermarket bits and still have them at home, luckily, but it's a PITA as I have to reassemble the stock brake setup. It's a silver cylinder, with bolt hole through the center, bit like a wee dildo ribbed for her pleasure.

that's almost as bad as trying to reach the rear pegs. No other option but to let it dangle

Thanks but I already suffer from foot 'n' mouth disease.

Just remember the angle of the dangle is inversely proportional to the heat of the meat, provided that the maxis of the axis, and the gravity of the cavity, remain constant.

I cruised out of town and parked at the bottom of the hill for a quick wander and found nuffink... most likely wallowing in the sewer system somewhere. Hey ho... although I'm glad I didn't find it as when I returned to the Prila I noticed that the brake pedal, which seemed pretty secure, had fallen off too :killingme... awesome. As I was fooked from walkin the hill I figured I'd try the foot peg on the way home and although not comfy, certainly better than nothing at all... all was going well until it came to getting back on SH1... a nice fulla in a beemer let me into the traffic and as I swing my leg up to find the peg, I kicked the peg back into place . Good thing she has fat mounting there as I hooked the edge of my heel onto it and toasted my leg somewhat on the way home. Upshot being that I've got to figure out how to refit the old rear brake system... hmmmmm, I'm sure the bits are in a box somewhere in the garage.

Was yours and my bike made in the same factory ??
I remember going up the Ngauranga Gorge in peak hour traffic once.....
Just before I was about to change lane, I changed down a gear from 6th to 5th, missed the gear and as it got stuck in between the gears, the frecking gear lever came loose and all but fell off.............I managed to just keep it on with my foot.
So I had lots of revs, no drive forward and going uphill in the outside lane while trying to cut across 2 lanes to the footpath......now THAT is scary shite !!
Luckily some cars (must have been bike owners) saw my plight and slowed down so I could coast to the footpath.
The Guzzi has no slot in the gear spline like Jap bikes do, so if the bolt comes loose it just slides off !!
I managed to get it into 3rd gear on the footpath and took off with a bit of judicious clutch slip....
Sorry to hijack your thread, just was a good story to remember.

haha, same thing happened to me months back, one of the bolts on the left peg fell out and the second was loose by the time I looked down and noticed the prob at a red light. Luckily, the bolt that fell completely out lay safley in a grove and I was able to do a pro-newb roadside fix:cool:

heh, I bloody hope not as that's the first falling off issue I've had... me don't want no more if your story is anything to go by... losing a peg, then lever  was bad enough... I thought thread hijacking was par for the course and generally ignored bar those who are sensitive? you almost hurt my feeling
