Purchased the new 2012 model Thor Ratchet boots brand new.

First and only use, a trail ride.

By lunchtime the sole was destroyed, when I kick started the bike the kickstarter went through the rubber sole into my foot ouch and got stuck in the boot.

I have attached some pics.

DO NOT BUY THOR BOOTS.

The rubber sole is of absolute crap and just lunches itself on the pegs and kickstarter.

Completely unusable.

Trying to get my money back from the trade-me seller so I can get some Alpinestar Tec3s :

They just wanted to swap the boots for replacements the same, and now aren't answering my emails. :(

I would suggest before you come on here and slag them off, actually take the time to ring them and ask to speak to the manager/owner and see if they'll sort it out. There may be a very good reason your email(s) have not been replied to.

Aren't they the same crowd selling written off bikes with questionable or non-existant repairs?

No.

looks like a hell of a lot more wear than 'just one ride' to me. either way, you have a better chance at getting a happy resolution if you actually give them time to respond before slagging them off online.

My thor boots havent even got a chip on the sole yet and ive had them since christmas.
the wear and tear, and the blackness on the side from the cover of your bike would take more then one ride for sure.

solvent damage ???

Seems a bit odd to me, and they have every right to replace them which they have offered, but to be honest because of the this thread they may just be tempted to shove them up your butt.

No solvent damage, my kickstarter is factory, my pegs are just normal style.

No lies, half a day trail riding and they were pretty much worn through to the insole, rode the rest of the day out. (65km total)

The rubber is just crap, other brand boots have a harder part there, the tech3s have a really solid hard sole all over.

This thread is not meant to be about that, just about the boots.

Probably a bit late for a retraction, but good luck trying to get them to go the extra distance for you now.

Funny eh. We have guys (never girls) that try it on, bring shit back that's obviously had a hell hammering, saying they've used them once.

FFS...we've been round a while, and more often than not used the same gear. We know the diff betweeen worn once and not.

I would have totally taken the replacement boots.. I smell a rat lol..

I don't think a manufacturer like Thor would have a model avail that lasted less than half a day of riding? dont u think everyone would be complaining..

the boots look like they have been walked in, the soles all over are a little smoothed off, and the obvious damage etc.

shoulda taken replacements and if it happened again then u can really complain about that particular model.

Oh and I'm very happy with my Thor mx boots, iv had em 2 years now this will be the 3rd.. prob get another 2 years out of em but prob only get out on the dirt 4/5 times a year if im lucky (loong trail rides tho, the boots have outlasted a couple of bikes). hehe

Whether or not it was 1 or a few rides this shouldn't have happened.
The amount we pay for boots, which is now ridiculous, should mean we have boots that will last more than a season (excluding racing).

The OP should have;
1) cleaned the boots before taking the photos and
2) taken the replacement boots.

Sounds like he didn't like the boots after he rode them and would prefer the tech's.

One days' wear? Yeah right.

On that basis I should take my wife back to the supermodel store and ask for a replacement :2thumbsup:wings::woohoo::banana:

Ok dredging a couple of week old thread, but I'd believe the OP claim of use. Ignore that the boot is filthy & that there is polished section (which could occur sliding boot on ground). Look at the underside instep. There are virtually no marks from the pegs, even my (rather old but fabulous) Sidis get marked there.

Smacks of a quality control problem with the sole rubber. Probably a batch had a curing issue as you'd think there wouldn't be that sort of problem even with years of use. A replacement in a different batch I'd bet would solve the issue, but I'd be pretty pissed & claim that they weren't fit for purpose. Whether I'd complain on here is debatable, but people get angry esp if they then get ignored.

Not saying I know both sides off the argument of course.

Clearly if they were bought recently (& a TM purchase would back that up pretty quickly) then I don't see the argument.

If it all falls over & you're just going to take the hit, I know the local (bike savy) shoe repair guy can resole MX boots. May be an option, but you'd need to suss the right guy for the job.

Like many have said, this looks like more than one days riding.
Personally I think if you were offered a replacement boot, and were not happy with them the second time round, you then have more of a leg to stand on. The seller has done the right thing by offering you a total replacement. If you didn't want to take him up on that offer and then your answer was to jump on here, you might not get much love from them again. Alternatively you could get the replacement boot and sell them and put the money towards the boot you want, at least then you aren't paying out for the new boots completely.
I understand your frustration but sometimes here is not the best place to vent.
Just my view.

Bit late now, but Bay City Motorcycles were sold a couple of months ago to Action Equipment here in Tga, who handle Polaris ATVs. They operate the Polaris ATV and Kawasaki ATV/ag motorcycle business from the old Bay City Motrocycle store in Waihi Rd, Tauranga.

However all my dealings with BCM, Trish and Blair, had been fantastic.
