Anyone else find the intellectual level on many U.S motorcycle forums disturbingly low.
I am constantly amazed by the volume of stupid questions on some of the forums i frequent.
Most of these questions can be answered by looking at your bike, the owners manual or by having a bit of a think about it before posting.
For example- "should I drain my fuel tank or fill it up before I store my bike for a week!"
"The manual says to use 87 octane gas, what octane gas should I be using?"
" The tank is supposed to hold 4.2 gallons but I can only ever put 3 gallons in it. What is going on?"
" I have bought the just released new model of a not very popular bike, why isn't there any aftermarket parts available"

I found it amusing at first now I just get fucked off with it.

I read the odd funny question on some US sites, mostly coming from new riders.
But what I don't see much is the constant slagging off of the kind that this site is so well known for.
I know several people that when you mention KB to them, just roll their eyes and say don't bother, it's full of teen age trolls and gutless Mods.
This thread is a prime example.:niceone:

Im yet to find a motorcycle forum that doesnt have a high number of fuckwits, and morons with a juvenile sense of humour.
I admit I partake in some of these things from time to time.

The thing I find most annoying about the US forums is how off topic they are.
Its common to see guys that have been members for 5-6 years, that have 30, 40, and 50 thousand posts 95% of which consist of either entirely off topic comments about other members sexuality, or a 'cool' comment - its like they think a post count relates to motorcycle ability.
Annoying when you go through 12 pages of posts, and find only 5 or 6 comments that are actually related to the thread in any way.

having said that, KB doesnt exactly set a high mark to compare other forums too.

I don't think U.S. culture provides enough for intellectually stimulating conversation for everyday Americans. Their obvious lack of understanding to the scientific method (due in part to their education system) allows them to hold onto very strong conservative and religious ideologies.

This along with their over nationalistic views creates a vacuum of ignorance that encompasses everything from epistemology to biology.

Or something like that?

Thinking about it a bit more, it seems to get worse the more popular the particular forum is. The ones I'm familiar with that is.

My favourite is something like: "I've just picked up a 2002 XXXX with 3,000 miles on it, do you think it needs a full rebuild?"

or - "I'm new to motorcycling and I'm thinking of getting a Bussa (ZX10, CBR1 etc) what do you think?" Personally I actively encourage them .... figure I'm doing the world a favour.

Having said that I'm on a US Hornet site that has some very knowledgeable persons when it comes to the bikes.

The main thing that annoys be is they always bitch about how expensive bikes/parts are when they are 4 times cheaper than what we pay! All relative to their market I guess.

Kiwi Biker isn't that flash either:

I'm thinking of getting my first bike. What should I get?
I'm thinking of getting my first big bike. What should I get?
Where's good for insurance?
I need tyres. What Pirellis should I get?
What's the best oil?
I want to ride really fast. When's the next track day?
Who else wants to go for a ride this weekend?
Are we there yet?
Wouldn't it be cool to have a Kiwi Biker wave!
Where's a good place to get my bike serviced?
How come Americans ride on the other side of the road?
That guy in the car that cut in front of me the other day is a wanker.
Who else thinks that Honda riders are gay?
What's best, leather or cordura?
What's the best helmet I can get for $150?

This site has been going for over 10 years. Most questions have probably been asked before. There's a search window in the top righthand corner. Use that before going off like a lame dickhead and asking one of these questions for the gazillionth time. American forums are little different to ours.

There are no stupid questions- only stupid people. It's true: America has more than its share of mouth breathers but there are a few points of light in the darkness. Fair is fair though- it's difficult to compare something invented in the States, say Apple computers, to the enduring genius that is Buzzy Bee. Who says bikers need to be bright, anyway? Dealers are having a hard enough time finding buyers without having to throw an I.Q. test into the mix and besides- dumb questions don't frighten me as much as dumb answers.
