View Full Version : Registration sticker and holder

Yesterday I noticed that my registration sticker and holder were "missing" from my bike. Goodness knows how long they had been AWOL for. Still ignorance is bliss! I'm sure they were there last time I washed my beautiful baby.
It looks as though the holder thingy (very technical term!) had completely sheared off the number plate.
Has anyone had this happen before?
What can I do do stop it happening again please?
All thoughts and comments will be gratefully accepted......even the silly suggestions

Fasten it securely, with washers behind the plate, and use self-locking nuts.
Oh yeah - and stop pulling wheelies: scraping your number plate along the road is a sure-fire way to rip the rego off.

Thanks Viffer
It looked as though it was riveted on originally.
So screws are the answer then? :msn-wink:
Hmmm....will have to find a bloke to help me with that.

One of the basic rules of motorcycling.....

If one bolt will hold it,
and two will do,
but three will make sure,
...then use four.

With spring washers. And loctite. And to be sure, wire the heads.

Maybe someone nicked mine too...although why would they?
There is a tear in the number plate, so maybe someone ripped it off!
Goddammit!!!!!!
I'd better not see anyone hovering around my baby bike or there will be trouble!........I'll have to get some of you boys to sort them out

VINZ have come to the rescue with another sticker and a holder too. Have to collect them tomorrow morning. Dallas at Colemans told me to go there 'cause they give them away :2thumbsup

Oh for Heaven's sake. You always go overboard. Just staking them will be sufficient. With double nuts.

EDIT And split pins

Drill a small hole through each nut/bolt and run wire from one to another, or to a fixed frame point.

Bloody Hell that sounds complex.
Not sure my technically incompetent mind can cope with that.

Or fasten it to the side of bike somewhere, should still be their after the wheelie if done properly.

Thats a shame. there are plenty of scum in NZ who do that kind of stuff for some reason, usually to savethemselves a few bucks, they must live a very sad life.

Come into AMPS, I'll do a new label and give you one of the millions of holders that we can't get rid of.

Just to let you know that my rego is all sorted now. Got a replacement sticker and holder from VINZ at no charge - courtesy of advice from Sarge (thank you!) and it is now firmly bolted back onto Baby Bike.
Pissed myself laughing at the thought of me doing wheelies!
Thanks everyone for your help.

Wheelies are easy. I do them by accident all the time. go down one gear and hit the gas.

Hey yeah I noticed that my WOF and Rego are very mouldy looking in their holders. How do you stop that? they are only 3 months old.

I dont attach the WOF to my bike, i have it lamenated and keep it in my wallet, only down side is that parking wardens can't see it but then again if they do ticket you just photocopy your WOF and write a letter to the council and you will be let off :devil2:

As for the rego i dont really bother with that i just reckon the big WOF holders look hideous no matter where you put them
