Thats a shame Rob, make sure you bring the printed maps, if you have them?
See ya Saturday.
The weekend weather is looking mint...water should be fine....;)

Im struggling with the maps. im an IT idiot. They keep coming out tiny. Stephen did them great for the north ride we did. Will PM him. Will modify for the little route change on 22.

Hmm, near end of winter, south of auckland, west coast...water should be fine.
I'm up for this foolhardy challenge!

....and I will just sit a watch ;)

Well, I suppose I'd better live up to my name then, huh? :)

ok, pushing is allowed, there are no rules....:devil2:

Sweet PR3's back on the bike now, so plenty of grip for riding :)

Just need to sort our tank bag supplies and decide what gear to wear down there and whether to ride down Friday night or Saturday morning.

LOL clothing isn't an issue, the tank bag holds things like First Aid kit, emergency blanket, my wet weather gear, chain lube and other bits and bobs (that everybody else seems to need) I just need to sort through it.

Rest of the trip is pretty straight forward, however its a 2 nighter for me if I come down Friday night :eek5:

Oh shit, do we? Late notice to find that out, but I'll have a look on Trademe today and see if I can find a bargain one that will at least last the weekend. For what I can afford to pay it probably wont be waterproof and will fall to bits after an hour on the bike, but as long as the price is right and its not too old things should work out ok. A bit more warning next time though...

I hear they have a special on blowup dolls at the moment. Good thing about that is that you can fit her in your over night bag and then blow her up once you get there. Less to lug around on the bike :msn-wink:

On a different note, we'll be bringing all the necessities in the car, first aid kit, blanket, water, snacks and refreshments, and a few towels for those keen to try their luck at the free meal (like me!)

If anyone can think of anything else we should bring just in case, feel free to let me know here or via PM.

Well, I've now got 36 "perfectly formed" shortbread cases (not one reject in the whole batch!). Half lined and ready to be filled in a chocolatey way. the other half, the other half lining up for some curd.

The meringue hats are done (just trying to figure out how to carry them without creating one big sticky mess in the process).

make chocolate mousse once we are there? hmmmm me thinks this is best...

As usual, great company and good times. The U-turn thing ran a bit flat this afternoon when that officious dickhead made a great show of waving his red flag and pointing us down a road we did not want to take. What else are you supposed to do when faced with many road cones and a red flag being waved at you but go where you are directed. I thought there must have been an accident or something. But no, he "thought" that is where we wanted to go. How he drew tht conclusion is beyond me. He didn't look like a treadly rider either

Was pleased to be home, 335 kms for me today, just hit reserve, or the Millie equivalent at the lights as I turned into Warkworth so that is really good fuel economy. I enjoyed the road in and out of Kawhia very much.

It was great to meet a few more new faces and hope none of you were put off by our wonderfully annoying detours. We have some lovely pics to share.

Thanks for a wonderfull weekend guys :sunny:

Maha
26th August 2012, 17:55
The road out of Kawhia was better that way, for me...guess mainly because I knew where I was going to stop ahead for the main group, and did so, while enjoying what the road had to offer, had Doogle to keep me company.
Slight detour yesterday...ended up seeing way more of the outback than the 4-5 bikes out in front...thanks to the Off Roaders at Nikau Cafe we didn't venture any further into the great unknwon..
Great unknown being the road to Port Waikato via Gravel...no fanx.
The Lost Angels from the Whak-awi Hapu really enjoyed that bit of road up until then to be honest...My mistake, but what good mistake to make.
U Turn to search/find the Lost Leaders at Narrower Here BP...(they had gone onto Pirongia)
2.5 hours to get from Papakura to Narrower Here.....couldn't have asked for better weather.
We (the main group) arrived in Pirongia for a much needed feed as a group...very easy task really.
What greeted us at our 'end of day one' stop was nothing short of stunning...

Hi Guys, Rob (AKA NZspokes) here using my lovely girlfriends login as I cant remember mine.

Sounds like you had another eventfull day today! More pics needed!

I had an intresting run home with a stray cow on the road and a ute that cut a corner. :shit:

And on the way down yesterday something didnt feel right in the front of the bike and on the way home the front slid twice on RH corners at high speed. So backed down to legal speeds, dropped the highway pegs and cruised to Sharon's to be looked after. So today after sorting the things I had to do in the morning I checked my front tyre out. It looked a bit stuffed to me so we went to Cycletreads to get a new tyre. Turns out I was through to the canvas in 3 small places and I was close to losing the tyre....:gob:

So new tyre and the bikes back to normal.:scooter:

Hope last night was fun for you guys.:woohoo:

Awesome weekend, great bunch of people, thanks for having me along. I'm keen to do another one!
Sorry to disappoint, the possum fur mankini wouldn't fold up small enough to fit in my bag.

The roads we discovered during the first geographical misplacement were some of the best roads of the weekend. Sorry to the folks who missed out.

I pulled my battery out when I got home. She was pretty warm, and I recall that once it had some kinda fluid inside...
I'll try juicing and charging it, but I don't hold much hope.
At least running alongside my bike countered the bacon & eggs.
After one particular stall then a couple of run jumps, I was feeling a tad frustrated you might say. The front wheel popped up in response :shit: Didn't know she could do that...

Shopping List: Battery, Jumper leads, Ipod speakers, Ipod, Lycra mankini, Sunglasses.

I have never taken jumper leads away on a trip before, but I do believe that they might become a must have item in future. I had to borrow a set off Tonys dad after his funeral because I had managed to flatten the battery on Millie. Was good to meet you!

As others have said, an awesome weekend. A great way to kick off a week of just chilling out. No work for another seven days :woohoo:

Planned or not, we had a great little side trip. Glad I had the map book on me. Something I never go out of Auckland without. Largely because I like to explore the side roads and have no problem with luggage space (unless I'm tenting - gonna get larger side bags when I can afford them).

Was nice to be able to lead the group back to civilisation. The first time for me at the front of a group. I was never quite sure what pace to set. I thought I was going too fast for the group then Mark would be right on my tail... Oh well, at least I didn't lose anybody.

When I installed Irene's grips I wired them to the ignition. No chance of that happening to her.

I used to carry jumper leads all the time in the car. I never used them on our car but they came in handy several times helping out stranded strangers.

Weather looks good for the rest of the week too. Rain today then fine until next Monday.

Yeah Carmel decided she didn't want to leave her bike behind and was ok to ride (hence the stop at the layby on the hill) so we carried on moving, just got home before it got dark after a couple of fuel stops.

I am looking at getting a truck, so possibly could fit some beds in there, but don't honestly know how much room is in there. If its urgent I can probably make the trip if someone wants to hire a trailer.

Yep I was just on the 850 mark

Mind you, I did like the road from Mercer to Cambridge so much I did it two extra times ...

Any specific specifications you want for the picture? or just where is it headed?

Yes and yes, will take some planning, but I will concerntrate on the next north ride and get the thread up in a couple of weeks or sooner, some do need the time to get sorted. (time off work etc)
Its already in the making, Mark Waters will be big help, meeting us again in whangarei and leading the Saturday ride.
Nothing like a bit of local knowledge...if you know what I mean?:innocent:
