Hey guys, my bloody iTunes keeps crashing everytime I try to open it.

Have tried reinstalling it and a few of the suggestions on the Apple site, but still no luck.

Running Windows 7 home edition 64bit

Cheers,

$&@$# iTunes, biggest piece of crap software. Is it crashing when you connect up idevice? As I've had this problem due to having photos on iPod & phone, remove them and works fine.

Runs ok on my work w7 64 bit PC but use it as little as possible.

Yep it was doing that to begin with. Seemed ok, plug in the iPod, doesn't wanna work.

Somehow I've seemed to have made it worse as it doesn't even start up now lol.

Teacher asked me to take a turntable into my kids school a while back. Kids were amazed at it. :2thumbsup

Have you installed the 64bit or 32bit version? Either way, try installing the other one.

+1 to getting rid of iTunes. There are plenty of better alternatives.

Was not aware of this, other programs that will let me dump music onto my iPod?

Which one(s) would you recommend?

Even when it does work, the program is such a cunt to use and not user friendly.

I don't have a serious grip with iTunes, it's just taken me a long time to get used to the damn program.

And when I finally do, it bloody stops working on me!

Ctrl + C, then Ctrl + V. Sometimes it's best to keep things simple. I don't need any special software to transfer data from one drive to another.

That's why I love my Walkman sometimes, Windows just treats it like a USB stick.

yeh it does take a bit of setup, with all the album organising and artwork etc (you can get apps that help out with this though), but I find once this is done, the browser and playback interface is at least as good as any other, and auto keeping the ipod synced is pretty helpful.

If changing the 32/64bit doesn't work, look up on how to completely remove it, as I think there are some associated services that are difficult to remove.

Can you right click on the installer, click 'properties', go to the 'compatibility' tab, 'run in (some 32bit windows) mode'?

Not sure if this works

Ok my turn.
Win 7 x64
Installed the correct version.
When I first got the ipod was working fine, transferred music to it fine, did an update, turned to shit.
Installed an old update (after removing everything apple related)
Will boot up fine with no problems however when I plug the ipod in itunes wont recognise it FFS
So I just settle for the same old fucking songs now, half of which are shit because I mass transferred FML!
Tried transferring manually (copy n paste) but it doesn't actually allow me into the folder :( it just loads forever

If you want compatibility issues, then why not use Linux? Oh, that's right, with Linux my phone and MP3 player is plug and play. With Apple you're just paying to have compatibility issues, and the investors are laughing all the way to the bank.

Maybe, compatibility issues come from having an OS which is actually compatible with a vast amount of software...

Just to clarify, I was talking about Apple hardware compatibility problems, not the OS itself. A USB MP3 player that needs special software for it to work is just retarded. I haven't had any problems with non Apple storage devices formatted in either NTFS or FAT32 working with various different OSs without the need for extra software. It should be "plug and play".

They can be used plug and play, but to get enhanced functionality you need the software to sync it all up. If you just want a plug and play device, why pay the premium for apple products? Thats just retarded :bleh:

Itunes can SMC.

Mine has decided that it wants to have preference over what I listen to. It is stealing entire albums from the ipod, along with random songs. It refuses to sync what is selected and it refuses to co-operate with videos.

Thank fuck for Android!

I use Winamp to sync my ipod (and a few other mp3 players for that matter). It works very well and is very good at organizing media. One of the best media players out there for music I reckon.

Yea I read that yesterday. Its rather sad really, but it doesn't detract from what a good product Winamp is. Its really just saying what could have been had AOL not shat on their parade.

iTunes crashing? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA don't they have an app or a social club where you all hug each other for that?

As for winamp - I have been a user since way back in 1995. It has changed a little, but it had fantastic features like visualizations and crossfaders way back in the 90's when all apple could product was Quicktime (the cheap whore that it is).

Shame AOL fucked up the marketing for it and made it disappear. But then again when have AOL done anything right. They fucked up Netscape for years only to have it rescued by the Mozilla team (fyi its renamed "firefox" now for all you youngins).

Winamp gets another vote. The only glaring gripe is moving your ratings database to a new PC, which at this stage of game should be trivial, it's been around more than a decade now. It's had iPod support via the included mlPod plugin since ages ago.

iTunes is a somewhat bloated and cumbersome product designed to lock you into their ecosystem; it's best avoided, but admittedly it's good for mum and her ilk.

/edit: Ok, I take that back.... 170MB??? Somewhat bloated... what I meant is a hideously bloated piece of shit.

Bit of a shame really... iPods are reasonable bits of kit... that you can't replace the battery or dump MP3s on them is basically unforgivable unless you're a completely brain dead fuckwit that probably couldn't manage to accomplish those things in any case.

If apple fired its software team tomorrow I would use more of their kit. As it stands the only bit left in the house is the sons Ipad. Why does he have an ipad, well he is only 1 so needs something that is retarded easy to do stuff on.

As for software not doing what it's supposed to - I am a huge dropbox fan. On my android phone it is worth gold. I don't even plug in the phone to get photos anymore - Dropbox gets them all for me, automatically.
You think this would be same with dropbox apple app. However this is not the case. Unless you using apples icloud, your not getting anything off anywhere automatically. Bloody joke. Tried to help a friend out, and got completely frustrated with the simplest of tasks (copy/paste/move) because the iOS locks you out of EVERYTHING. Her dropbox does automatically download all her photos now - but only after she plugs in the cable.
She is not a fan of using iCloud (she had issues with apples similar email setup a while ago).
WTF!
