To the purist, a custom bike is one that is built from scratch, each piece individually crafted. Only one in the world.

To the uninitiated a customised bike is one that has mass produced bits purchased from the manufacturer added in variable patterns to produce a bike that a little bit different from another.

How longs a piece of string and what are you going to use it for when its the desired length? Many variables could be factored into the answer to your question i guess. Will use this old girl as an example ie many mass produced bits from manufacturers combined ie late model GSXR forks/radial calipers etc etc .Custom? No idea but they didnt fit themselves. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a92/tlme/new005Medium.jpg

A customised bike would be a production bike with bits changed to suit the whim of the owner.

A custom bike would more fit the description you have described, as in a one off custom build.

meh, its any bike that has been built, or modified for a specific person or purpose.
really, if you ride through winter and have a bone stock gsxr 600 with heated grips to warm your hands on cold commutes, its customised for YOU.

who cares, ride them and fuck with them as you see fit. some people (like ducatilover) take it further than others

Custom or customised? Ferked if i know. Not many original parts left and some parts are from other bikes (9 different bikes in this) and some parts are one off.

So, you choose.:headbang:

Yamaha as such were the first to produce the 'factory custom' the old XS650 twin US custom, or heritage custom. HD have always touted to customise' your bike from the encyclopedia of after market goodies....

I did an EITO assessors course. First thing they do is give you ten pictures of buildings, all sorts of buildings. They say 'which is the best'. Upshot is you have to define your criteria. To simply say custom or customised is not clear enough. Therefore it becomes purely subjective. So you're never going to get any concensus of any meaning, hence the 20 page threads on the matter.

I've got bits on my bikes, I don't say they're altered or customised or anything, I just ride 'em!

My 2c.

A custom bike is one that doesn't hurt your nuts or give you aches and pains. If you haven't gotta custom to your bike, generally it hurts for a little while until you do.

I always saw a custom bike as one that has had the frame built specifically for the rider -
a one off with custom geometry..

Anything else is simply customised.

But then again, a ground up build using a stock frame and a myriad of parts suited to the rider could be seen as custom also..

In the end, does it really matter?
Less defining, more riding.

Actually in the US I saw the opposite.
Mint condition SS Chevelle with nothing modified goes for about US$100K. Modified about US$20K
