What really is a customised bike?

To the purist, a custom bike is one that is built from scratch, each piece individually crafted. Only one in the world.

To the uninitiated a customised bike is one that has mass produced bits purchased from the manufacturer added in variable patterns to produce a bike that a little bit different from another.

How longs a piece of string and what are you going to use it for when its the desired length? Many variables could be factored into the answer to your question i guess. Will use this old girl as an example ie many mass produced bits from manufacturers combined ie late model GSXR forks/radial calipers etc etc .Custom? No idea but they didnt fit themselves.

A customised bike would be a production bike with bits changed to suit the whim of the owner.

A custom bike would more fit the description you have described, as in a one off custom build.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

meh, its any bike that has been built, or modified for a specific person or purpose.
really, if you ride through winter and have a bone stock gsxr 600 with heated grips to warm your hands on cold commutes, its customised for YOU.

who cares, ride them and fuck with them as you see fit. some people (like ducatilover) take it further than others

Custom or customised? Ferked if i know. Not many original parts left and some parts are from other bikes (9 different bikes in this) and some parts are one off.

    So, you choose.

Yamaha as such were the first to produce the 'factory custom' the old XS650 twin US custom, or heritage custom. HD have always touted to customise' your bike from the encyclopedia of after market goodies....
