Hey Kiwi-Biker,

my name is Matthias and I'm from Nuremberg in Germany. On Monday the 3. September my plan arrives in Auckland. My Suzuki DR 350 comes in a woochest with a ship on the 13. September.
I'll stay for 9 month in NZ for a work and travel holiday.

But now I have a very big problem. The woodchest has to store anywhere for this 9 month. But I don't know where?

Can somebody sore the chest? I'll give you money for this.

Thank you for your answers

Greetings from Germany

Gidday, rent the chest to a homeless person for the time required. Winz would be happy to pay them rent. :devil2: Have you got work sorted for Auckland, if so they may be able to look after your box. Will keep an eye on this thread,if you have no luck from anyone else,I could probably arrange something for you.:headbang:

Thanks for quick answer. At the moment I don't have work in Auckland, but I asked my Backpackers maybe they have a place for my chest.

Hope there's somebody who can do it ;-)

First port of call would be to talk to the freight forwarder/customs broker you used to get the bike into NZ. They may be able to offer a reasonable storage solution (some of them are really helpful, some will just want to charge you heaps of $$$, but worth asking the question).

At first I asked my hauler?(hope that's right) they will store the chest for 25$ per week, i'm 40 weeks in NZ so that's 1000$ and that's to much! Now I'm looking for an alternative

OK, so I guess the next question for those watching this thread - what is your budget to pay someone to store your crate for 40 weeks?
Might also pay to list the size of it (and whether it can be broken down to make smaller)?

Bikemad
29th July 2012, 11:08
how big is the crate dimensions wise.............if it can fit on the back of a ute i can probably sort something for you for free

Matz
30th July 2012, 19:57
The crate is 2,40 x 0,95 x 1,50 m (l x b x h). The side walls can be unscrew with a torx screwdriver. The whole crate has a weight from 175 kg. So can you transport it with your ute?

That would be very fine

Sorry but Nuremberg und Nürburgring are not the same :P there are 400 km between it. We in Nuremberg have Bratwürste and Sauerkraut Nurburgring you "just" can drive cars and Motorbikes ;-)

I have a friend from Passau (in Germany) once come to me & say, "Steve, what is mean to take the piss"?
Im fully aware of the difference between the two, & every Kiwi reading this knows I am too.
Can someone please explain to the man about "Taking "The" piss as opposed to taking "A" piss.

Pardon me, serves me right for trying to multitask. A section of Autobahn will do instead if you could crate some of it. (Enough to do Wellington to Auckland)

Hmm. May be just bring your roading engineers.

Our Road engineers are not always genius. Nürnburgring is go bust. So they are thinking about so sell pieces from the ring. So that's not cool because maybe the ring will be closed.

Enough from bad news is NZ good for climbing? I always want to learn climbing but a teacher is very expensive in Germany. Is it in NZ cheap? Or is it expensive too?

Sounds a bit like they are trying same idea as they did with the Berlin wall. In some ways it is just as iconic, definitely a more positive icon. But it would be sad.

I've not got a head for heights, but have known a few climbers, most seem to just join groups or clubs but guess there must teachers, certainly tourist operators that take people out climbing. Might also depend on what sort of climbing you are into, rock, mountaineering etc. Hope someone can help you.
The Govt does run a mountain safety council and they run or list safety courses, must have a web site that could have some information.

I did all my climbing in the UK and in Malta. Now that I'm living in New Zealand I started climbing up at Extreme Edge in Panmure, which is about 20 minutes drive from your back packers. They do lead climbing courses there which consists of two 3 hour sessions for NZ$100 if its a group of four, or NZ$135 if its a group of two.

People at the wall seem very friendly, too, so it seems fairly easy to group up with some climbers if you come on your own. :)

I think you'll find one has a history of trials, whereas the other has a history of racing.

try the likes of the course above, or join a Tramping, or mountaineering club when your over here.

Here's a link to one in Auckland http://www.aucklandtramping.org.nz/ The Mountain Safety council mentioned above has a web site as well

Hope you enjoy your time in NZ.

One of my sons-in-law is from Germany and has established three companies here. He couldn't believe how easy and cheap it is here! Get in touch when you get here and I'll give you his contact.

Hi Matthias

I'm from Erlangen, and planning a trip to NZ as well (Dez'12 to Feb'13).
Like to meet before you depart?

Due to new-member-restrictions :( I can't send you a PM, so I post here...

Greetings
Nobby

P.S.

Can you tell me which hauler/transport agency you used as I also want to ship a bike from Berlin to Auckland. Do they also take care of the packaging and paper work? Door-to-Door?
Thanks

Hi!
My bike is returning from NZ to (c)old Germany these days. Still need help? I have used a kind of door-to-door service.

Hi!

I've got my bike back today :)
My hauler was Pangaea Cargo GmbH (www.pangaeacargo.com). I had a door-to-door-service, all paperwork included (work and all fees as e.g. customs, MAF), so I had just to pay and receive the bike, first in AKL than here at home.
Overall costs bothways roundabout € 2.000,- (1.030 G to NZ and 960,- back)

The only thing that I did by myself was packing the bike and luggage into the crate. They would do that too, but of corse that is expensive...

And what I don't know yet: If the "Endverbleibserklärung" (missing the english word right now...) within the Carnet is already filled out (I asked them to do that if possible) - the Carnet still is at customs office, I'll get it sent in a few days.

If you need further information please send a pm.

If you need a crate - I have one now that I don't need anymore...

Cheers
Nobby
