Deacon was just around here helping me (he did all the work while I watched) remove then attach a new throttle cable. I thought it wise that he remove the carburators so I could get Red Baron to give it an Uber clean. Anyways those gold looking things within the carburator are meant to be shut right?

Why is Image code turned off?

Those are called the "butterflies" and yes when the throttly is shut they should be shut aswell. Those are what the throttly directly controls, max throttle = fully open, looks like they are about 80% open in the pic.

Your right, those carbs look absolutley filthy & most likely need a real clean. I see you mentioned your going to drop them off to Red Baron's for a big clean up, which is a good idea. Basically, they probably just need disassembling, given a clean, put back together with something like graphite or moly grease on the linkages. The bike wil need the carbs re-synchronised afterwards, so a full tune up woill work wonders at that point. :2thumbsup

I went in there today and showed them the carbs, the guy knew straight away, fzr250 carbs. He said they'd strip them, clean them and put them back together for roughly $150. The carbs were so covered in gunk that that butterflies wouldn't move at all, a lot of crc and they were barely going. He said that carbs would be full of old shit, gunk, petrol and a clean would do good. But most likely that I'd need new ones. So I think I'll drop them off Friday (payday) and see what they say Monday.

Went back in there today, carbs are slightly worn but they believe it was screwed o rings causing the flooding. They have ordered some and will get back to me (hopefully tommorow  ).

Carbs were attached tonight (gareth post here again so I can give u some more rep) and the bike seems to run mint. But now it's got a noise coming from the bottom end. I'll make a thread about it tommorow after I've been for a ride. Bearings maybe. Not good. Two weeks before I can do anything about it.

the bike went pretty mint... if it had a shorter throttle it would have been more fun.
Started it, waited for it warm up on idle... was smoking a bit, after it clearedi went of lightly in first, changed to second then took it to 2k before the redline and thats all the 'hard' riding it got... other than that didnt go above the 10k mark... sound is coming from the lower end near the front of the casing...
