Been ages since I did the Herekino road. For a good reason. I came over a wee crest to be confronted by a mob of angry, staunch turkeys. Caused a bit of rectal puckering.

On our last tour, No one wanted to room with Rob, because he snored so badly. A few guys decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns.
The first guy slept with Rob and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot.
We all said, "Hell Scott, what happened to you? He said, "Rob snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night."
The next night it was Doogles turn. In the morning, same thing, hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot.
In the morning, we said Doogle, ‘’what happened to you? You look awful! He said, Rob almost ripped the tent with his snoring. I watched him all night."
The third night was Richards turn. He loud, has a beard, older biker, a man's man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
"Good morning!" he said. We couldn't believe it. We asked Richard what happened?" He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Rob into bed, patted him on the arse, and kissed him good night on the lips.
Rob sat up and watched me all night."

So, I have some good news and some bad news... it turns out my bike rebuild has eaten into my finances a lot more than I had initially expected, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it on this trip. The good news is though, the bike is coming along really well, and I'm hoping to be back riding in time for the summers track days! Unfortunately though, being that the bike will be only track capable, that means no more road trips for me until the 600rr is safely tucked up in the garage... hopefully this time next year! :-)
(I know I said I'd be more than happy to bring the cage, but it drinks more petrol than I do coca-cola and red bull put together! Sorry!)

You could make it slightly more than that. How about $10 to carry the gear and a $200 softcock tax for going on a bike trip and getting someone else to carry your shit? Just a thought, but could put the 600rr in the garage sooner Scotty.
Oh, while I'm here, my go/no-go depends on work. Yep, FINALLY gainfully employed as of this week! Going to be working 4 on 4 off from around the start of Nov though, so have to wait and see whether I can come.

THere is roughly 6 weeks until departure time, if you both put $50 aside each week out of your pay you would have $600 in total, $300 for accomodation/food and $300 for gas....

As Saturday's ride does an extended circle around where I live and the planned route actually will pass my letterbox the usual emergency facilities will be available.........
Fuel shouldn't be a problem for anyone - provided you start with a full tank at Kaitaia (4 different gas stations available) getting back to Coopers Beach will be easy.
Should it be needed my vehicle and trailer can handle up to 3 large motorcycles or up to 5 small ones so if someone has a mechanical (or any other) problem then the bike can be collected and stored safely under cover at my place. Talk to me very nicely and I may even be able to deliver it to Auckland.
All being well, I'll be sitting in the sunshine at Gull Whangarei when you all rock up on Friday morning.
There is a really scenic tar sealed coast road via Matauri Bay that could be ridden if anyone can persuade Maha to include this in the route for Friday afternoon. A very nice motorcycling road. Adds about 40 minutes to the afternoon ride.

We hosted a couple of Germans here for a few days, they left for the far north on Tuesday (woffing? in Keao of all places)...we went to our local festival on Saturday and scoffed into a couple of yummy belgium sausages on rolls...very very tasty indeed...I had the medium, Anne had the spicey.

I would have loved to have done that again, this time with my pegs down, and Tony on the back, but hey, that can be next time, next time. I will put my pegs down and take Tony on some of the best corners in the world instead

Bed allocation - I'm easy. Apparently I snore on the rare occasion. I've never heard me, but I have earplugs anyway.
Ride group allocation - Again I'm easy. I prefer a max and min speed of 5kph over the posted limit (consistent). Although happy to slow down on straights.
I have a brand new battery, but I'll still throw in my jumper leads.

Here is a 7 minute video of the Mangamukas..it has been compressed in 7 minutes by speeding it up, but you'll get the picture.
Fast forward to 2:30...thats where the fun bit starts.
Even sped up, you get get an idea of the camber through some of those corners.
Probably a good 15-17 kms worth of bendy bits.

Awesome :niceone: Ive been riding for about 3-4 years in all kinds of conditions. The longest ride I had done myself was around 400kms in a few hours. Pretty confident with the twisties, prefer riding on backroads in the country than boring straight expressways/motorways like the majority of us on two wheels :headbang:

Thats right Doogle...have to keep in mind that these rides are Learner friendly and frequent stops are essential.
Those in group 1 will just get there sooner than groups 2 or 3....
At times, the group/s will spread out (thats only natural) but what I tend to do is, slow it up for a kilometer or two, thats all it takes for those behind to catch up.
