Hey guys,

Just finished restoring my VJ21 after to many years of it sitting neglected in the shed. Took me about 6 months to rebuild it. I started knowing next to nothing but with the help of the manual, the team at rgv250.co.uk and some common dog Ive brought it back to, what I think anyway, is a pretty nice bike. If anyone is interested Ill throw up some pics of the build process and some "holy shit, no wonder 'insert part here' didnt work so good" pics. Dont ask how much it costed.. I kept a decent log and Im to scared to add up the total.. it makes me wake up in cold shivers and my credit card still doesnt talk to me after the raping I gave it.

Anyway, heres the album: http://imgur.com/a/tFGDq

Not sure of the general opinion of the race replica style fairing but I love it.. my mini schwantz machine. Its damn glorious to have a 2 stroke machine pissing off the neighbours again.

Cheers.

That's awesome man, very well done. A mint VJ21 is second on my list of bikes I need to have in the shed that I don't already have.

Cheers for the kind words guys, Ill put some pics together of the build in another album for you guys to check out if interested. Only thing that needs to be look at is the suspension, front forks are 'ok', a little soft for my liking and I wouldn't mind having someone know what they're doing take a look at them. Rear shock is good for its age, but designed for a 65Kg Japanese guy, not a 90Kg kiwi haha. Can anyone recommend any suspension techs?

To be fair, I new what I was getting into buying the Chinese fairing and for their price, theyre great. $600 for a full set of painted fairings delivered to the door.. cant argue with that. Most holes lined up fine but some panels definitely needed a bit of swearing, cutting, drilling and adjusting to become acceptable.. and even then Im still not 100% happy about how they sit. Theyre a lot thinner than the OEM jap stuff too, hence why I wanted the heat shielding down by the expansion chambers. But for bang for your buck, it doesnt hurt to give it them a shot.

Cheers

Yeah, it runs really well now. Rev's nicely up through the RPM's with no bogging and pulls hard once in the powerband. That was one of my main motivations, just get it nice because finding decent quality spares is becoming tough, just check out trademe.. its all junk.

For the fairing I went through a seller from ebay called Parts4Bike, heres his ebay page: http://myworld.ebay.com/parts4bike?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
He was really good, you can change the paint how to want at no cost. Flick him a message and see if he holds any 750 molds.

For anyone interested heres some pics of the build. As the build went on longer my picture taking skills reduced.. Any questions just ask:

As I had such shit service from companies in NZ (primarily Auckland companies) when I was trying to ask advice or source parts, I mostly used websites to find what I needed. Here's some handy purchasing websites I can recommend:
http://www.motorcycleparts.com.au/ - Sends an email to dozens of australian wreckers and they reply to you if they hold that part with a cost. Struth, to easy mate.
http://www.importmonster.com.au/ - Easiest way to browse the Japanese Yahoo auctions if you cant read japanese! Search the auctions, buy an item (you put money onto your importmonster account), then import monster buy on your behalf and ship it to you. Excellent service and you can find basically anything on those auctions. Seriously.
http://www.thetuningworks.co.uk/ - Mostly RGV related but other makes are stocked. Pricey due to our shit dollar but excellent quality and service.
http://www.wemoto.com/ - Again, pricey but very good.
http://www.cmsnl.com/ - Very good 'exploded' part diagrams hosted on here for nearly every bike. They hold or can source nearly any part but be prepared to pay for it! Good service and good communication.
http://bikemufflers.co.nz/index.html - Sent my expansion chambers down to Kiwa to be gutted and re-welded. He provided a great service and was great to work with, unfortunately I didnt get to meet him in person but I can recommend his services.

Again, thanks for the kind words guys. Looking forward to bringing it along to some rides this summer.

Cheers

Pricey due to our shit dollarlol what? Did you buy your parts in 2009 or something?

All relative broskie. Would rather buy and AUS or US product than UK simply due to the pound still being 2:1 to the NZD.
