Well Simon Sweetman can Kidd My Fat Spotty Arse….

His review of Mumford and Sons new album was devastating. To be fair I don’t actually rate Mr Sweetman at all as he has a very narrow taste in music coupled with a vast repertoire of nasty words and a medium to give him a voice. That the media pay for this toxic rubbish says much about the current state of the press in NZ…

However, Indie music and bands without a long safe track record can be patchy so with his words ringing in our ears it was with some trepidation we set off on the trip into town last night to watch Mumford and Sons. He is an arse…

They were better than good, they were everything you want this sort of music to be. They were involved and interacted with the crowd and each other so somehow you could still feel they had a passion for what they were doing. This isn’t fine music with finger perfect scales and lingering pitch perfect notes – it’s a more raw translation of emotion and energy by younger musicians who believe in what themselves and their style. Its infections and Vicki and I liked it a hell of a lot.

Look – you go and see Bob Dylan because hes Bob bloody Dylan and a legend. You need to see him to get the Tee shirt. These guys just turn on a tap and POW funny infectious good time music pours out in vast waves. You don’t need the tee shirt…. Add in an intimate venue and really great lighting and you have an experience worth every penny.

Yes – we had a ball and to be fair Simon is partly onto something because their CD’s don’t even go halfway in getting across what they do live. This is music you feel, it does not seem to follow all the rules and yes sometimes the songs sound a bit same same (hey listen to a young Bob Dylan for that) but its still wonderful. Its raw and powerful and you should listen to it rattling your brain loose and through bleeding ears.

Wonderful….

and Michelle likes it too..

Isn't it funny how "critics" give themselves the right to be vitriolic little turds?

which is why I make a choice to never listen to / read their opinion.

Mumford and Sons is the schnizel, and you and I aren't the only ones to say it. Raw, unadulterated good fun that makes you tap your foot to the beat and just makes you want to listen to it over and over again.

Simon can take a flying leap off a short pier in this instance.

No no no. What's really funny, is he finally got it RIGHT!

Mumford and sons is shit, laid down and produced by a toothless hilbilly judging by the mixing levels, and the banjo twang the only recogniseable sound.

Hah, he did a fabulous review of six60 I think it was? Quite controversial and published a letter of one of their fans, quite the wind up. I like Mumford and Sons, not so sure about the last album but Babel I enjoy, took me awhile but they have a good feel, they're fun.

Yes - I wasn't surprised that the banjo was the instrument you might pick out Drew and no - it wasn't mixed in Upper Hutt... ;-)

I listen to M&S (Babel & Sigh No More) on the way to work... toe tapper & gets me started for work. They're having fun doing what they're doing, so am I. :D

Would loved to have seen them live... maybe next time.

I'm pleased you you had a good time at Mumford and Sons. It sounds like a fun night out.

Mumford and Sons are not my thing, but having a good time at a live rock and roll show definitely is.

Go see The Eastern if they play in your town. I guarantee you will have a good night.

do you listen to anything other than metal? serious question.

I can recommend you some bands if you would like to listen to some very very good stuff from the South of the US. Stuff you'd probably like too: not just the country or country inspired stuff. Shit, MAstodon are from bloody Georgia!

Oh yeah, time to drop in a banjo joke:

"What is the definition of perfect pitch?"

"When you throw a banjo into a waste skip, miss, and hit an accordion instead"

You're taking the criticism very personally, do you have a vested interest or summat?

Because music fans are passionate about the music they love, every time you criticise their new favourite band, damn right they take it personally.

Here, lets play a game:

I assume you like metal because of your Nathan Explosion avatar. (By the way, season four of METALOCALYPSE is coming Dec 6: preorder the DVD at Mighty Ape $32).

Metal sucks. It died in 1980 with John Bonham. everything since then is pointless fret-wank, stupid posturing, too many effects and in fact the parody bands do it way better than the serious ones do. Spinal Tap and Dethklok.

Here, for all you music fans is a great record released earlier this year. It mixes bluegrass and hip hop. Its excellent: Gangstagrass "Rappalachia"

The beetles, John Lennon, Robbie Williams, Eminem, Dire straights are a few non metal bands the feature heavily on my mp3 player.

I love music. It get's me through most of my working day, and is key to whatever mood I'm in.
