View Full Version : David Shearer is the man to lead Labour?

David Shearer is the leader of the labour party, as some of us know.
Rolling Phil Goff (a good public speaker & motorcyclist) for the leadership position, he has stamped his persona on the position and led labour to where it is today.
Another David is right behind him, perhaps with dagger in hand, asserting support but not ruling out the threat of toppling his leader after having a nice christmas holiday break.
Are we in for an entertaining beginning of 2013 in the "red corner"?

Like a poll on Kiwi Biker will influence the Labour caucus.
And really, who cares? The Labour Party is visionless and directionless. If the Greens wanted to they could easily make a play for the disgruntled beneficiary vote that Labour stalwarts think is theirs of right.

The NZ Labour party.....Shearer is a nice chap, but comes across as a bit of a dweeb! The heirachy are too busy keeping themselves in power to actually form a credible opposition. The MSM report all sorts of fantasies, aimed at keeping Cunliffe away from the front line - probably fed to them by Mallard! Crunch time will come in February. If the current collection of time-servers and over-ambitious incompetents stay in control, write Labour off in 2014 - unless Key sells the All Blacks to Tasmania - that might wake up the sleepy mainstream!

You need a "who gives a rats arse" option as that seems to be the consensus of the unwashed masses.

Bill Rowling - I got that Deja Vu too, a weak man inherits, and ripe for back stabbing. Cunliffe will get him in the end. Now that the seats are all swapped in MotoGP, we need more theatre.

All it will take is for National to lose a few seats in the next election, which is very likely under current performance, and the Greens will hold the balance of power in New Zealand. Though if Labour can't get its shit together the Greens might have a shot at being the opposition. When (who ate all the pies) Brownlee is rumoured to have stated (http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2538412/business-with-rod-oram.asx) (at about the 12:00 minute mark) in a closed-door meeting that the public won't worry about a bit of environmental degradation once economic growth picks up he is essentially throwing votes to the Greens. Just another indication how much off the mark in terms of public opinion the current government is!

I don't like Brownlee but he's correct. When people are feeling worried about their jobs and their families, they put aside nice lofty ideas like protecting the environment. It is human nature for us to focus on today and let the future sort itself out so in that sense the govt is very much in touch with the people.
You are right about the Greens: they are becoming the official Opposition. Good on them at least they generate some fresh thinking and new ideas.

Greens: whats work?

Ah well, the seat warming, no talent, apparatchiks still hold sway in the Labour party after yesterdays vote for "confidence" in the leader. Well done MSM for manufacturing a leadership challenge that wasn't actually happening and enabling the hacks like Mallard and co. to bring out the knives! Shearer leading Labour with the current bunch in control is a god send to every other party out there, incl. the nats!
