L's Angels Ride to the Naki (Feb 9/10) 2013

The one and only ride I hooked onto lead by a Usilly's chap, was infact, a LOR ride from Kaiaua. For some reason, Mr Usilly took it upon him self to take over.
He would stop in god awfull places (like just around a bend/corner) for the group to catch up.
But the best bit was, his suggestion ''For those that want to race, from here on is a good place to do so''....:clap:

I invite anyone who wishes to critique how our rides ''pan out'' to feel free to do so..the rides are after all, open to anyone.
I watch a posted video last week on here, clearly shows a bike passing a bike while that bike was passing a car...:msn-wink:

A great deal of organisation goes into these rides prior.

Basically, we are a group ride that rides as a group.
What tends to happen on most (if not all) group rides, is that they fragment into a solo effort soon after the flag drops.
The only time they are a group, is before the ride and at Lunch..if thats your thing then sweet as.
The formula on these rides may not be for eveyone, but those that turn up or register knows what to expect. We have riders of all abilities turn up and, never have we had a rider complain about what went on, or how the ride went...only by those who were not there.

Maybe, maybe not....but why give a group the benefit of the doubt when it's your safety at stake? I mostly ride alone or with a few friends, but I have been on various organised rides from 3 to 400 riders around motorways, and narrow country lanes with informal and formal controls and that Ulysses ride was one of the worst I'd been on.

I know who you are refering to & sadly I dont attend his LOR or Ulysses rides cause of the shining example he has set on rides he has organised

Trev has his own views on the subject of Staggered formation riding..however, he should not comment or summise of specifics of what occures or may occure on our rides.
If he felt that strongly about the subject, he should start a seperate thread on it, or dredge up an previous one.
The fact that he is/was posting in this thread about it (tageting newbies) proves to me that...his point has no merit where we are concerned.
What he does not understand, is that, only a small percentage of the riders use the staggered formation on our rides, on this last ride..7 out of 20.
If thats the only Criticism about these rides?...then I am happy.

I will continue to use this method on the rides where newer riders are present.

I'll make the effort to hook up with you lot on your next venture through these parts to find out for myself I guess :2thumbsup the amount of newbies now tagging along on LOR rides has grown alot over the years @80% of the grp & with the recent 3day ride through the Gentle Annie & a East coast loop ALL the newbies did very well coping with tar snakes,roads none had been on before & the long days in the saddle hats off to them all :clap: Good on you & the organising grp for taking the time to instruct newbies on touring NZ :niceone:

I disagree; FJRider was stating his uniformed (because he wasn't there, nor had all the facts) view. This view then changed so that I was unsure what he was trying to get across. As I posted previously he made some good general point earlier in the thread about mental fatigue...good point in the right place. My view is that he was just 'grandstanding' about a pet hobbyhorse; either poking at the organisers or preaching to the newbies after the event.

Anyway I'll leave FJRider, staggered formations and group riding techniques alone in this thread from now on :baby:
