I've had a fossick through the threads, but posting as I promised I'd ask for advice... I've a 2005 CB900 (~65k), that started as a love affair five years ago and has ended up now only being used for the soul-destroying daily commute. My partner has confessed that even after all this time she is still terrified every time I go out on it :sweatdrop

The engine is sound but blows a bit of (black) smoke under pressure, brakes noisy, scratches here and there (not on the tank), spots of corrosion here and there from the Wellington rain, tread at maybe 15-20%. Basically it's been hard used but not thrashed.

Looking to sell in a few months :bye:, but not sure how much work is worth putting into it? Is it better to clean it 5x, fix all niggles, replace the tyres and go for private sale? Or see if there's a local dealer who'll give a fair price and fix it up themselves? Trademe suggests perhaps in the region of $3k for a dealer sale or $4k private sale (looking at similar listings).

I found a bike a lot easier to live with when I used to live in Wellington. Between parking and traffic jams the bike keept me sane. I would keep the bike and get a car.

The only time I used to take the car was when it was blowing a storm.

I know of 2 CB900 Hornets, 1 with close to 200'000 k's and other with 110'000 k's and both engines are fine.

Brakes needs pads or some work?

Paint? get a touch up pen.

corrosion, sand paper and paint?

new tires!

CB900 Hornets are brilliant bikes... long live the Hornets!

Iv'e got a 1996 Nissan Wingroad (station Wagon) with a cracked windscreen but good engine, body and tires to trade if you want? it may or may not come with a 1986 CBX550 or a 1996 CB250, depending on how generous I'm feeling. I don't want to have a car any more, they'e silly and expensive things for commuting.

I just picked up a rough as guts Carona stationwagon - simply to cart stuff around. Plus.... baby seats on a bike are bad mkay...

If you don't have children yeah you can get away with not having a car...

Hey thanks for the advice everyone! And sorry about the late reply.

I'm on the right track then, sweet! Thanks man. I'll probably list it here first (not for a while though).

That there just does not make sense.
Forlorn hope; gotcha :)

Trouble is my commute is from Newlands. Traffic is no big problem but the commute is too short to be fun, and I get really sick of swapping pants and carting gear around everywhere. Mainly it's a safety thing though.

That's a relief! I will give the bike some TLC and see how I go. Reopening the brakes question for the 1000th time :) And yeah I still love my bike, warts and all. CB900s are great!

Thanks man I appreciate it, but not in the market until probably June at least (getting married).

Oh man, if only you had it in pink! Not quite ready just yet though thanks :)
