Once the traffic hits 60ish i go with the flow, but if its slowing down heaps and changing speed I weill filter up to about 60ks

i was told by a traffic officer ( while he was helping me understand the bus lane thing)
that he doesnt really mess with anyone splitting if they are doing it with some sense and no more than 20-ish over the flow of the traffic
i personally run my hazard lights when going through the traffic.. and once it comes up to 60-ish kph, i go back to normal riding

I do what I like, if I feel it's on, then it's on. If I feel it's off, it's off. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I've never split cars at what even I call stupid speeds or impossibly small gaps, but then some would say that my idea of "conservative" is insane anyway...
Lanesplitting is dangerous, the degree of what is termed responsible or not is purely subjective.

I only split lanes when the traffic is bumper to bumper slow, and generally when splitting lanes I stay in 2nd gear... so not that fast...

At the moment I'm just getting used to the bike, if the traffic is stopped I will sometimes filter, but only if I could drive a bus through it.

I've only seen Asian drivers do that. :devil2:
That's not legal and it's confusing to other drivers.

Mostly at traffic lights if (insert name of road owner and builder, I just went blank) has been kind enough to leave enough space ie. lanes are wide enough.
Since I do back routes for commuting high speed splitting don't happen, but I do tend to jump into gaps from side to side or high speed lane changing.
I thought I wouldn't split, but I do and thought you would be nuts to quickly lane change. Now I'm doing it a little... I have just realised where this might be going in a few months... :nono:

Not all bikes do. Your's is normal enough.
I'm a Nana so I don't filter or lanesplit agressively.
I don't usually bother filtering if I'm less than 3 cars back - just not worth bothering. Unless it's one of those freaky lights with a tiny short green phase and a honking long red one, like the ones in Sylvan Ave where you come out onto Onewa Rd.
Lanesplitting, I don't exceed the speed of the cars by more than about 20kph, and don't do it at all if they're moving at more than 30kph (usually)
So at 50kph I'll tuck back in. And I'm more paranoid in the wet or rain.
I don't use the hazard lights, but the Whale has amber driving lights (well, I say they're driving lights, prove they're not), and I have a secret squirrel switch that allows them to be on at the same time as the headlamp.Which is strictly speaking illegal, but I only do it when lanesplitting , and the switch isi hidden away where WOF testers won't find it.

shit, the amount of tax we pay to ride these days i make it my civic duty to use every square cm of the road. however i only split when in heavy or slow moving traffic but, i do split ahead of a couple of cars if they start to piss me off.

Split at about 20-30k's faster than the cars, stop splitting when flow hits 60+, almost always filter at lights.
Some times if I'm running late, or have had too much coffee, things can get a little more exuberant... :devil2:

If the traffic is bumper to bumper I split until it reaches about 30-40 k's.
I have been so happy being able to do this as the traffic was backed up from the terrace tunnel all the way up the Ngaraunga Gorge to Johnsonville yesterday and I got home at least 30mins quicker than if I was in a cage.

Depends on the day. Some days it 'just seems right' to dive in and out, especially when you might be in a pack on the way to work.
Other days it just 'dont feel right' so, softly softly is the approach.
Whatever though, normally a great ride to and from Welly! I look forward to every bikey day!!!

I split where I feel its safe... and sometimes I split where I feel its unsafe (if I'm in the mood). It usually depends on what kind of road I'm on (eg. Motorway or Residential). But I don't follow any particular self imposed limit. Also should be noted that I catch the odd wing mirror every now and again, but don't think that I've damaged any.
