Graeme Jarvis took out the Tough One from Jonny Walker...
Well Tough One didn't go quite as well as expected yesterday and can be considered a Tough Day at the Office !!, charging on the first lap to pass several riders after a poor start i managed to catch Jarvis, but i crashed while passing for the lead , resulting in dirty grips and gloves and dropping me back down the order, however i pushed back into 2nd for a few laps but was getting arm pump due to gripping to tightly onto the muddy grips, i had no choice but to stop and ride without gloves until i could pit and take on new gloves and goggles. Now in 3rd and a few minutes behind the leaders it was time to push like hell again, at the 1 hour stage i had made up over 2 minutes on Graham and was only 20 seconds off his rear wheel , it looked possible to challenge for the lead again, but a series of mishaps knocked me back and i started to feel the effects of pushing too hard earlier and could no longer hold my pace. So at the half way stage i simply just had to ride a steady pace and save the bike for a solid 2nd place finish, slighlty dissappointed but on the positive side learned a lot today and really looking forward to the next race. Have to concede that Graham set a high standard today , the event was great and the course much tougher than expected due to the snow and amount of riders ripping up the track to expose a lot of roots and rocks.

All good stuff. Hope to see some edited video soon...
Sibiu, Romania, July 2nd, 2013 – Traditionally, the Red Bull Romaniacs prologue is approached by most riders with great respect and considered the “bitter pill” to swallow before entering the beautiful mountains. The ones to suffer the hardest today were the riders of the Hobby class, who considered most of the course “unrideable” on first sight. Still, everyone showed great courage and would not miss giving their best in front of the enthusiastic audience. Many where sliding up and down the wooden obstacles, some with and some without their bikes and a lot of lifting had to be done to get through the course. Riding the prologue was not mandatory for the riders: dropping out after the start is only penalized with 15 minutes for the next day.
But even the PRO-riders had fear and worry carved into their faces after inspecting the line-up of man-made obstacles. Multiple Enduro world champion and Red Bull Romaniacs rookie Ivan Cervantes gasped: “When I saw the prologue this morning, oh la la!” Some of his collegues confirmed that they would take it easy to avoid unneccessary risks so early in the race. Husaberg-star Graham Jarvis again showed very strategic racing: aiming for the overall victory and not caring about the prologue, he watched the hotblooded Bolton and Walker fight it out in front of him. For them it was worth the while - since it landed them directly onto the podium: Bolton finished first in the qualifications and the finals, dominating the 2013 prologue and challenged only by Jonny Walker (2nd) and Ben Hemingway (3rd), who showed a breathtaking performance on his first ever Romaniacs prologue.
The “mad” man behind the making of these obstacles, Andy Fazekas, today presented the riders a selection of nightmares that certainly caused a few sleepless nights. Gnarly root- and rock-gardens, almost vertical wallrides and a pace that would not tolerate any kind of flow in the riding. On top of this, the 2013 prologue covered about the double distance of the previous two years and was layed out as a loop. Riders of the Hobby- and Expert-class had to spend 10 minutes plus one lap in the Enduro-hell, while the PRO-class had to deal with 15 minutes plus one lap.
Andy Fazekas: “We have invested a lot of thinking and budget into making the prologue of the Red Bull Romaniacs 10th edition a very special one. But it was was by far not the hardest one ever - the 2004 and 2005 ones were much tougher! And the beautiful weather and dry conditions certainly played in favor of the riders.”

Sounds boring, glad I'm not there...
Sibiu, Romania, July 3rd, 2013 – Over the past years, Offroad Day 1 of the Red Bull Romaniacs has become a “shock and awe” intro of the riders into the world`s toughest hard enduro rallye. While the veterans expect it and prepare for the worst, it is the newcomers, who enter the first race day still nurturing sweet hopes that it will not be that bad. In vain. The first ones to suffer today where the riders of the Hobby class. When they arrived at an uphill one hour into the race, the Pro- and Expert-class were long gone. The hillclimb wasn`t even considered one of the extremes of the day by race-management, but when a bottle-neck developed and 150 riders got stuck in the forest, the track managers reacted immediately and left to resolve the situation. Track director Klaus Sørensen: “It looked quite dramatic when we arrived, some riders were just sitting there hoping for a miracle, others were teaming up and some were looking for alternatives routes. I think we pulled up each of the 150 bikes single-handedly or rode the bikes up ourselves. I have never ridden so many different bikes in one day and I was amazed by the great spirit of these riders!”
The Expert- and Pro-class were facing their own challenges and were busy re-organizing their hierachy. As expected after his cautious riding during prologue, Graham Jarvis went “all in” today and completed “step two” on his plan to win the Red Bull Romaniacs for the forth time. Husaberg factory pilot Jarvis started 4th today and finished with a 26 minute lead on Lettenbichler, who came in 2nd. But even for Jarvis the day wasn`t without challenge: he was seen asking spectators for help and then being pulled up a hill. Which is a truly rare sight. And one that became reality for Letti as well: he eventually realized that getting up the “bad shape” section would be close to impossible and much easier in tow of a few spectators. Letti delivered an exceptional performance on his first Offroad Day by starting as 9th and finishing 2nd, just before Alfredo Gomez, who was repeately seen applying pressure to him and who finished 3rd.
The previous years have shown that it is very hard for newcomers to end up on the podium of the Red Bull Romaniacs - physical fitness, riding- and navigation-skills are not enough to dominate the race. Experience counts very much and it helps to have ridden the rallye before. Therefore it is even more impressive how Red Bull Romaniacs “rookie” Ben Hemingway continued his positive performance from yesterday and rode himself onto the fourth place on Offroad Day 1.
Paul Bolton and Jonny Walker continued chasing each other like they did during the prologue and spent quite some time together out there in the morning. But both were also chased by bad luck: Walker ended up runnning out of gas and losing precious time, while Bolton unvoluntarily left his bike several times. Bolton: “I was not very lucky today - I made a few gut-decisions that always ended up sending me in the wrong direction and into a few crashes. But I loved some of the gnarly uphills and am looking forward to tomorrow!” Bolton teamed up with Chris Birch later in the day and they were seen helping each other pulling their bikes up “bad shape”. It is always impressive to see the fiercest competitors teaming up to get through the most demanding sections together, only to fight later for every inch to secure their own place on the podium!

This should make for a VERY interesting 2014 extreme year...
The final round of this weekend’s 2013 Enduro World Championship in France will mark the end of David Knight’s full-time commitment to the series. After a long and prolific career, which saw the Manxman collect three world titles, Knight has decided that it’s time to move on.
In a season that’s been troubled with injury, the Honda rider has also become disillusioned with the direction that the championship has taken. No longer enjoying his racing, Knight has his sights set on pastures new for 2014.
“Unfortunately the GP of France will be my final race competing in the EWC on a full time basis. I’m disappointed that I won’t do the full championship next year but it’s time to move on before I’m completely frustrated. There’s no point being there if I’m not happy riding.”
With the GP of France in St Flour out of the way, Knight will put his complete focus and attention into preparing for his assault on the 2014 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. The seven-round series begins in Liverpool’s Echo Arena on November 17th.
After that Knight then plans to contest all the major Hard Enduro for 2014.
“Moving forward, my intention is to compete in the SuperEnduro World Championship and the Hard Enduro races on a full time basis. They will become my number one focus.
“The opening round of the SuperEnduro World Championship is a home race for me so I want to go there and fight for the victory. Doing that would get my season off to the best possible start.”
“Next year I want to compete in Hard Enduro. It’s something I’ve missed doing. I’ve won a lot in the past and I want to try and do that again. It will be tough to leave the EWC behind but I feel I’ve nothing left to prove. Hard Enduro will become the next chapter in my career.”

just about to put new tyres on myself and was thinking about the tubliss tubes.
let us know how the ride goes and how easy they are to install.
cheers
In the words of NordieBro, "They're fcukin awesome!".
He got 13th in Pro class and was the last rider to complete 3 laps.
He's a leetle annoyed though, it seems some were taking Expert loops on the last lap.

Man, only Monster would have burnouts in a car at a motorcycle event.
Do you know why red bull aren't doing it?

I think they've held out against redbull involvement so far

First Husaberg in 21st place. They'll be missing Grimbo...
Husaberg doesn't exist anymore. When KTM acquired Husqvarna, they dissolved Husaberg and started producing Husqvarnas only.
Although, they are really just blue and white KTMs, as recent Husabergs were.
So thats why Jarvis is on the 4 stroke Husky, instead of his 2 stroke Berg.

From enduro21.com...
It's almost tradition every year that the Roof of Africa brings rain to Lesotho and this year is no exception.
The region has been in the midst of a severe drought that came to an end just 20 minutes after the first riders left the start gates at Bushman's Pass.
In stark contrast to the sweltering conditions of day one, day two saw rain falling throughout the day making conditions even more challenging for the world best hard enduro athletes.
With the proverbial blanket covering the top 10 riders, the lead was chopping and changing throughout the morning with navigation becoming a critical factor in the day’s outcome.
Shortly before the 1st DSP, a wrong turn by Graham Jarvis and Birch, had the Gudzeit brothers Jade and Blake leading the field but by the time they reached the DSP it was South African James Hodson who arrived first, followed closely by Jarvis and Scott Bouverie.
Kenny Gilbert and Ben Hemingway were locked in battle for a top five position while Blake Gudzeit had to leave his brother Jade, who was suffering from a clutch problem, at the foot of the last climb before the service point.
Chris Birch was sitting in seventh spot leaving the DSP, but made short work of the riders in front of him and pushed to the front of the field.
Still battling with navigational issues the Birch and Jarvis missed the 2nd DSP, but charged ahead for a dramatic finish at the top of Bushman's Pass.
Birch caught Jarvis at the top of the Mountain and bombed past the Englishman for one of the most exciting finishes in the races history.
Reigning champion Wade Young was forced to retire after seizing his motor, while last year’s runner up, Altus De Wet also suffered issues and dropped out of the top 10.
Tonight will be a busy one for the Clerk Course as there are a host of appeals to consider this evening.

Oh bugger! :(
American off road and rally motorcycle racer Kurt Caselli succumbed to head injuries suffered in a high speed, single vehicle accident during the 46th running of the SCORE BAJA 1000 this afternoon.
Caselli, 30, was highly regarded as a master of his sport and deeply respected among his fellow competitors for his incredible talent offset by his noticeably laid back and sportsmanlike demeanor. Many of his peers idolized him and he was a hero to thousands of young riders as a notable role model under the KTM tent for his entire professional career. Caselli was always great with the fans, made time for autographs and spoke eloquently with the media.
They called him Captain America for his wide range of talent on 2- wheels. He asserted authority and dominance every event and series he conquered. From his multiple consecutive AMA Titles, WORCS and GNCC to leading team USA in the ISDE for over a decade.
Caselli’s 2013 rally debut in the DAKAR Rally was nothing short of phenomenal with 2 stage wins and a near 3rd. That performance earned him the a 3-year contract with KTM Europe to run the entire FIM World Championship Cross Country Championship, something Caselli was setting his sights on after his bid for the BAJA 1000.
The entire off road community mourns for the loss of an incredibly talented and well poised motorsports warrior. RIP Kurt Caselli.

Well bludgeon me with a frozen haddock! Thought he looked familiar, Ross Noble, professional comedian, amateur biker racer & born in the same place as me. Same place as Sting used to teach before he started singing, too.
