hi all,
i just found your bucket forum and its proving to be a great source of info for me and my low budget track bike here in china.
I'm only really intrested in the bucket section and have built a ax100 powered tzr quite by accident because thats all i could find here.
My local kart track let me hoon around on my 250 supermoto for a few bucks but i wanted to build, tune and develop a little 2 stroke bike so when i got a tzr50 offered and found i could buy a new ax100 engine for 60 quid I set about it.
I just got it running and now need to sort out some minor issues before its first track day.
here are some pics of my bike, what do you guys think??

May need to do some work on the tail section of your beastie, not pleasant to have something smack you in the back on the off chance you dismount awkwardly.
Apart from that, I think you'll have some fun on this. Do you have any riding "partners in crime", or are you trying to rally some support? More fun when there are several of you riding!

It looks like a good start.
You should definitely try and get a few mates out there.
Nylon (or similar plastic) crash protection my be a good idea to avoid issues with track damage.
It would be quite cool if you had a few people all start with the same engine if they are cheaply available new.

Thanks for the comments guys I totally agree that a group of these bikes would be a great thing and a lot more fun, as an ex motocross racer i love the thrill of racing. Unfortunatly this bike is a 3 way thing among my friends here in shenzhen. The object is that as we tune it and develop it we will have timed sessions to see who sets the fastest times. We also have other bikes we can take to the track to play with but my friends don't like riding the track with me as I still dive in late on the brakes and block pass them on the exit:shit::laugh:
So the reason i signed in here was to get some input on tuning the engine. I'm looking at putting on a 26mm carb and a tzr125 or tzr 250 pipe if i can find one at the bike breakers in Hong Kong. at the moment its running the standard 20mm carb and tzr50 pipe. what should i be looking at as regards opening up the transfers, reed valves and raising the exhaust port??? Also some ball park jet sizes would be great, when i get the carb I'll take a pic and post it. I would just like a mild easy to ride engine, not an all out max hp engine.
Any input is very welcome and i'll try and keep you guys updated as we go along, here are a couple of pics from last year

Hi
Just an observation but the pipe has a very long header & obviously just munged onto the std bend.
Really you need to set up the design parameters of how far you can rev that engine & what sort of maintenance schedule you are happy with.
I always worry about the quality of non Japanese assembled engines + any engine that has sat around can have damage to the big end bearing so that it expires if you give it too much grief. On top of that they have like a 4 speed gearbox don't they? I'd not want to be revving it further than 11,000 unless you were serious on up-rating the rod.

Yeah, and sadly a really poor one. The stop on the change drum is poop.
A real limiting factor, Skunk had a look at a number of other gearboxes but none of them would fit in easy.
Richard, That's going to be a major limiting factor, don't make it too peaky.
Read this book: http://books.google.co.nz/books/about/2_stroke_Performance_Tuning.html?id=Ij593j28IP8C&redir_esc=y
It's a bit out of date and there is much more to learn but it's a really good place to start and is really readable.

yeah we are limited with the engine choice but the good news is a new top end is about 20usd so we can afford a bit of trial and error.

Totally, you should still be able to get reasonable power out of it too. <Insert grab-clutch smiley>
