Sad news.....It is a holiday here, AKL Anniversary includes Waikato...
More information will be forthcoming I presume, local rag....
One of the main reasons NOT to ride there in the weekends.....Vehicles, trail bikes and headons...
Wasn't a fall off the edge or...
Funny, no siren went off in town? Fire Service not required obviously.

Stunning day here, Thompsons Track would have been full of Bikes, Quads and families in 4WD....
I always see them stopped here in town, fuelling up or at the cafe afterwards....
Dino will vouch, there are always some Yahoos up there tearing it up and treating it like a motocross track esp on the corners...and families with young kids riding on the back of quads..No helmets zone as well.....It is a bit dangerous up there on weekends/holidays...

Perhaps this should be in the off road section to highlight the idiots that go up there?
It would also be interesting to get some perspective of off road users that frequent it......

Clearly, even moderators aren't above attempting sensationalism.
Was true.....no attempt. I recall the vehicle ploughed off the face in the wee hours....The Fire Service were called out to retrieve victim!
Siren sounded, the same ole' routine but this time different. :)

Did a few trips over there a few times quite a few years ago, mostly in 4x4s, but a couple of times on dirtbikes or quads. quite a few close calls with guys going hell for leather not really thinking there may be other users about.

They got the air ambulance in, a normal ambulance, several cop cars and a hearse i do believe... Closed the road while the crash unit were there... they all left the scene a couple of hours ago. Usually when the air ambulance goes over my house it on its way to kati kati area, but landed up the road towards the track
There were about half a dozen ute loads of bikes that i could see(live down by X roads) so was getting used.

I know the Volunteer Firemen who had to go in and bring his body out- he and his mates had all had an absolute skin full. Im sorry for his family - but I have no pity for the idiot himself or his stupid pisshead mates at all.
When we ride up there we do all we can to keep ourselves and anyone else safe. It is a remote and dangerous place.

I read in the paper today about the absolute idiot in Hawkes Bay who crashed the quad bike and badly injured his 6 year daughter. He's been charged with drink and drugs offences as well as reckless driving.

Last time I rode Thompsons track was back in 1971. Had my shiney new CT1 175. Ian on his DT 250. Dougie Johnson rode his MX bike. The track hadn't been used for a long time, was over grown to the point of bush bashing through the toitoi's and other over hanging shit.
Doug had a coil of rope wrapped around his waist. We needed it.
The DT 250 is a bloody heavy bike when you're pulling it about 4m up a washout.
The track wasn't used a heck of a lot untill the Trail bike invasion of the 70's.
I guess it's a bit like Queen st these days.

We have a road(track) down this way that gets really busy like that over summer, people are always getting airlifted out of there. I never go there in summer, unless it is to retreive a bike or 4x4.

You need some crocodile tears for your post to stay in one of these threads.

No, I thought some of the comments were out of hand (given the subject & the fact that some people were firing from the hip), & downright rude, & asked for the mods to look into it. Blame me. <_<

No we dont- not at all- this does not concern us.
FACTS are: A 32 year old dairy farmer died from a heart attack whilst using a piece of farm equipment.
Odd thing is .... Im a Mod- I can see all- and there is no 'deleted post' banner showing between any of the viewable posts.

Hmmmm.... Ive just been into Pink Hell and had a read.... several people have read the last few posts and assumed that everyone was talking about the same incident.
Keyboard Warriors. :tugger:
The earlier (2009) incident WAS caused by excessive alcohol and had huge cost to the taxpayer and the family and the volunteers involved .
In this indecent, a farmer riding his quadbike had a heart attack.

Yeah us ordinary blokes knew exactly what was going on in the thread so pointed out the error in those that were mixing up the two incidents (indecent or not) and my comments are safely over there in PD too.
