View Full Version : Ignition switch lube?

What would you use to free up an ignition switch that is a little sticky - probably due to thousands of gallons of water getting into it over time.
I have tried "Dry Glide" - a silicone lube that usually fixes everything but it only lasts a couple of days and it's dry again.
Any ideas? Graphite? Whale Oil? Melted down Human Fat?

It's worth a trip to a locksmith, the lock lubricant they have is mighty fine shit.

Yep, WD40 works for me. Hey, if it's good enough for NASA, I'm sure Mr Suzuki would approve :shit::Punk:

Whatever you try ... if it sticks a bit now. It only delays the inevitable ... and you'll soon get sick of "fixing" it ...
If it can be taken apart ... do it. If it can't ... start looking for a new one. While you have time.

Mmmmmmm lube ........
House locks and car door locks I use a fine graphite powder that a locksmith sold me. Good shit. Actually I have used it in a bike ignition in the past. Lock people don't like wet lubes as they attract shit and end up gumming up the internals of the lock.

Cheap source of graphite powder is to get a pencil and a bit of sandpaper and sand some of the core, most pencils are not pure graphit, but a mix of graphite and clay. Good cheap fix though.:shifty:

Mitre10 is a cheap source. A graphite puffer only costs a few dollars. Go see a lock smith though, there shit is better.
