Round 2 Track Day by Daniel Phillipson
We arrived at the track about 8.00 am. It was a bit foggy but that cleared up quickly. It was going to be my first time riding at Taupo so I was keen to get out there and see what the track was like. We’d had the bike worked on since the last meeting, so it was time to see how it was running.

Session 1-
I went out slow to see what the track was like, didn’t try too hard for my first time. It was just mainly to go out and see what it was like and get my lines.

Session 2-
I went a bit faster this time and got past some people, but they passed me down the straights because they had faster bikes. I ran off the track once because I was going too fast into the corner but didn’t fall off.

Session 3-
I went out at the back to see how many people I could past and got past 4 or 5 people I think. It was harder than I thought because some kept passing me down the straights, which is frustrating because I did all that work to get past them, then they get you straight back.

Session 4-
I went out and tried to do the same and get past as many people as I could. I had a bit of a moment just after point 4 where I ran off the track and was about a metre or two from hitting the tyre wall but saved it.

Session 5-
I was getting faster every time and getting past people and staying in front. I was getting later braking and faster corner speed now that I was used to the track.

Session 6-
I pushed the bike harder and felt like I put some good laps down. The bike was working fine as well, which was good because it went faster.

Round 2 Race day

Practice-
I went out and did some alright times and my best time on last lap which was a 1.30 which gave me 6th on the grid which I was pleased with considering it was my first time at Taupo and only second race. I was 3 seconds behind Zane Burrell and Turiana Banks which was pretty good for a first go I say. Rogan Chandler got a 1.24 which gave him pole.

race 1
I stalled on the start which didn’t help but I caught up to someone and got past him which I was pleased with considering my start. Had a little moment on turn 1 where the back wheel locked up but nothing major. My best lap was 1:29.765 which is good I suppose for my first race and finished 4th in the 150.

Race 2-
I had an average start and went into turn 1 in 7th place. Aaron Carr had a crash in lap 2 I think which resulted in a red flag so went into pits and waited for the restart. Aaron didn’t start this time. I had another average start and went in to turn 1 in 7th again but got into 6th not to long after with a clean pass going on the inside just after point 3. Turiana crashed at point 1 which resulted in another red flag and got a 1.30 in that race. The race was not restarted after the second red flag which gave me 4th again.

Race 3-
Was cancelled due to lack of time left.

This leaves me 2nd in the series still with one round to go at Manfeild which will be interesting depending on who is there.

Thanks to Peter Fern and Gareth Pywell for the help and anyone else who helped over the weekend.

Thanks to the PMCC for sponsoring me and Jason Lincoln for donating the bike.

Great riding man, you are doing very well.

Yup.... I couldn't restart, as I got VERY broken....

My report to follow some time soon......
