View Full Version : Let's ban petrol lawn mowers!

These lawn mowers are noisey and interupt my sleep in at 11am! Lawn mowers are usually between 90 to 110 decibels! Thats 25 decibels highers than motorsport is allowed to be! And right next door. They can be heard 4 or 5 times a week!

I thought them new Masport 4 strokes were quiet as!
Sure there are still a few 2 smoke rattlers out there, but the new gas mowers are way more livable.

That said, I've got a 300cc thumper motor in my push mower with a baked bean can stuffed with grow wool for a muffler. Now that sucker makes a racket, still it sounds better than my neighbours 1350 EVO

Either use a shorter cord or use lube ... but you've found the downside of being a tightarse ..

PS: Why would you buy a house so close to someone with a lawn mower?

come the revolution, "one man went to mow" ...........and all he may produce(d) is/will be /were ruthlessly crushed by the new world order

there wasn’t any fanfare or trial , he was just executed for "just the thought of mowing" his ( anti new world order show of decadence ) lawn

and as penance to the state his entire family were forced to construct;-

We to have electric. But our one has a battery. No cord.

Works well as long as the grass is under an inch tall.

Just ban lawns. Maybe all lawns should be converted to speedway tracks?

haydes55
3rd May 2013, 22:28
We had a (at the time modern) masport and the lawns half cut (not drunk, we had cut half of the grass). We ran out of gas. Option 1 go to the gas station around the corner. Option 2 use the avgas from our speedway bikes.

The mower never ran right again, never had constant revs and was substantially louder.

So no, avgas won't let you mow the lawns quicker but it sure annoys neighbours!

Our back lawn to this day hasn't grown grass. About 6 years ago my older brothers birthday party we had a friends 50cc scooter with a sidechair! Everyone was going around our lawn marked by a washing machine in one corner and a cone for the other corner. We ripped all the grass off then decided the track needed watering, out came the hose and the lawn ended up splattered over the house. The scooter seized at some stage (not surprising given the thrashing it received), the house had to be water blasted and everyone reading this just called my family bogans :headbang:

I should get Avgas round to cut my lawns, get him off KB for a bit. ;)

Got a old Victa 2 smoke mower 25yrs old run it on old race fuel with a mixture of 50/1 synthetic oil , a hole in the muffler chunks outta the skirts makes a lovely sound and smells devine , same could be said of chainsaws/brush cutters to noisy for city's.

I won't be able to yank start the old 2t rattle mower until I'm finished with the chain saw. 7am tomorrow morning, into some felling. If the sky heals. Mind you, I cleared enough trees for another section in the garden so I could ride the bike around instead. Got to practice my wheelies. Neighbours? Pffffffft.

I actually fully agree with the OP, no lawn mowers should be petrol powered, make them electric. Preferably battery powered. If your lawn is bigger than one battery can handle...get a friggin goat!!

BTW-The time one wakes up kinda depends on ones hours of work don't ya think? I've got a job which has rockstar hours now, start about 10pm and finish around 9-10am, so I'd be climbing into bed around 11am.

Meh, it's your lawn and should be able to rape and pillage it at any time of the day and whatever machinery you can take to it with... I believe the first post is about the guy skiting that he can sleep in to high noon... The lawnmower is just an annoyance that doesn't really bother him... Kudos to lunchtime sleep ins, Just coming into an off season myself where sleep in s will be plentiful! Viva la bed :D

A few years ago, the wife decided we were both going to lose some weight and get fitter. She went out and bought a handmower. We sold it a year later in a garage sale. Still had the black paint on the blades.

The earliest motor mower I can remember dad having was a yellow and gray BMW mower back in the 50's. Had the wind on rope start. Cant remember what BMW stood for, but it sure wasn't associated with sophisticated technology. No catcher on it. With dad mowing, one of us kids had to rake the grass into mounds, then onto the wheelbarrow and over to the A2 Bedford truck.

What cracks me up is the mentality of those loaded enough to own Kiwi batches. Go to any small hideaway town where people flock to in weekends to get away for some rest and relaxation ( take Waikaia for instance) from the rat race. All you can hear is fucken lawnmowers!
