OK, that's about 130 dollars. So you reckon that's less than getting a electrical tech to fix the ECU?

I say grab it and trial. If it isn't the prob then you can tardme it and recover the 130 again.
If it works 130 is as cheap as it will get unless you try fix ecu yourself.
bike eleky 80-120 per hour
electronic tech same
Both could access for a hour and not be able to repair. If can repair will be 130 north.
Unless you have mate will do it for beers.

My mate would do it for the challenge and beer.

I've fixed a Yamaha cdi before come to think of it, on an old FJ 1200. Rip it open and get into it.

Seems like a goer to me, just give him the beer after the challenge :bleh:

UPDATE:
Well, no luck... Even after re-soldering the dry joints, the problem still came back. I've found a used ECU on eBay for 90 dollars including shipping from the States, so have bought that.
Spokes, please thank Mike for trying. He still deserves a beer!

UPDATE
Got the ECU from the States and plugged it in, and... the bike wouldn't start. Lights come on but it acts as if the kill switch were on.
So no joy... again. :weep:

Trade me, $1 reserve. Make it somebody else's problem.

I'm surprised it wouldn't start TBH.
Is it meant to get a signal other than 12v at the cdi unit? (Kawashitty bikes of the era did this, so why not Yamahahahahehe?) If so could be worth checking the resistor.
Or they sent you a fucked unit.
I'll give you my Mazda 626 for it :baby:
edit: did you end up doing the tank sealing kit? Well worth your trouble if you haven't. To do an even moar betterer job, do some electrolytic rust removal before sealing the tank (google is your buddy, it's super simple)

Me too... Even the old unit started, just that it will randomly die off.

Yeah, will have to look at that.
Q: Resistor = rectifier?
Or they sent you a fucked unit.
A possibility indeed...

I'm not convinced it's the tank. Inside of tank and the tap is just too clean to be it...

Fat lady hasn't sung, so not yet... :msn-wink:
