Hi Guys and Girls
I have a Fa50 (well almost 2 actually)
The pink one runs and I plan to register her tomorrow.
(then repaint her next week) This is going to be done in a rat rod type of style in a clay brown (Think NZ Army trucks) with the wheels, luggafe rack etc done in a dark matt grey.
I want to mod this bike a bit, so if any of you have made an Fa50 go faster I would love some tips.

The 2nd one is red, and I have new reflectors, headlamp etc, I still have leg guards and the basket for this machine and will respray her red and cut some repro decals on the vynil cutter at work and make her look tidy.

So my questions are
1) Is anyone interested in me posting picturs of the builds as they go?
2) Who has made a fa50 go faster, what did you do? I know it easier to buy a different scoot, but thats not the point of this exercise.

Cheers

Apart from getting a tow from a Huyabusa, Probably not a lot that can be done to increase the speed. But hey, a good project to play with and yes, any photos or updates would be neat. It will keep the scooter section active.

Here is a link to a FA50 road test.

Also if you enter fa50 in the search box on you tube, you get quite a number of clips on this model.

So I have 2 weeks off and plan to take my 3yr old on his first camping trip.
I also plan to paint pinky NZ Army Clay (Like the trucks) and the red one will get a lick of red paint.
If I can get the red one going I will be happy.
She MAY be up for sale if anyone is interested

Red one will have all the 'extras' eg leg guards, basket and MAYBE a windscreen (Pics to come)

Well I got pinky 3/4 painted today,
I stripped, primed and painted everyrthing bar the forks

I also did a carb strip down and clean, although like a fool I removed the adjustment screws, she is all together now but runs smokey as, but she runs (after a bit of faffing about)
Curiosly as the speedo is broken I have no idea how fast she goes, GPS run tomorrow!

I will have a play tomorrow.

Cheers for reading, and any advice to make this hawg actually do 50 (GPS said 44.9kmh) Im keen as.
I have cleaned the exhaust port
Changed fuel lines
Changed Plug
New fuel and 2 stroke oil
lighter oil in the trans (as per every forum comment suggests)
New tyres (pumped up hard)
and I have perfected the 'tuck'

I plan to
add an expansion chamber
bigger carb?
if I can find a FZ50 gearbox, mash that in, with the larger fa50 wheel it could be awesome! (the fz50 has the same engine with a 14mm carb)

I know its a lot of work but this thing is cheap and Im learning heaps

That 5kph is a 10% increase in top speed. Going to be interesting to get that out of it. If it's still mobile next May, you can enter the Trans Alpine scooter charity ride. Should be a good goal to aim for.

I'm planning to ride my beast down from the Waikato for that run.

I have expressed interest for this already (emailed the dude) I have read of a NZ guy that did a 60cc conv, fz50 trans and 14mm carb getting 70km and this bike was still running 2 years later

what in gods name is that chamber-thing doing on there? just fyi you can't throw on any old chamber on and expect it to go faster... which it kind of seems you just did. chamber dimensions have to be calculated specifically for the port timing of an engine, and that your jetting has to be fattened up appropriately. maybe i'm wrong though, maybe someone with a few screws loose did in fact make a chamber for the FA, and maybe you did up-jet for the chamber. if not, expect a blown top end...

Thats exactly what happened
chamber was made for fa50

and it works

I commuted on one of these for a fair while, until I got Hyosung SF50 as it was fast enough to keep up with the city traffic.
I have the workshop manual for it somewhere if you want.
It woudl be interesting to see what difference the chamber makes. The stock 12mm carb is pretty restrictive.

Well she is still going strong.
I planed the head back a bit and will need to jet her out some more as she has more low end but no more top end.

I replaced the air filter with one off a pocket bike but this is not so great I think it is a bit restrictive, I will do some testing next week.

Over all Im pretty happy with this Scoot, if you see me riding around chch on her, give me a wave.

well this bitch is still going strong carving up the mean streets of bishopdale.
I have been upping the Jets and have gone up 3 sizes from stock and she is still running lean (speeds up when you engage the choke and doesnt 4 stroke)
Does anyone have any small mikuni jets from size 85 -95 I could borrow and test what size I need as they are $15 each and its getting expensive considering I only drive 500m with each one.

Also I got me a CT90 thing today, updates coming

I kinda bobbed the rear end of her recently, this was after snapping the rear axle! Interesting thing to happen going around a roundabout.
Scuffed up my boots, but otherwise fine!

If you want to see my even tougher Fa50 reply otherwise I will enjoy it by myself!

I like the ' drop down bars ' on the beast by the 105E. There are about 3 FA50s running around Te A. All seem to be tidy and running ok.

You'll be able to do the Wanganui - Taupo scooter run next Feb then?

felixx

I would love to do that..
Lived in Wanganui for a bit

This girl is still going strong.
I found she loves the BP 98 Octane fuel

I need to go up a few jet sizes as I tried a less restrictive Air Filter and she would pull WOT With the choke open..
Im curious to see how hard she will pull, but nervous about destroying her

She is for sale to make room for a new project
