So I am getting my bike ready to be re-registered and I noticed that at some point one of the steering stops had broken off. It had been rewelded but looks a bit messy. Is this going to be an issue when it comes to re-vinning the bike? The rear brake lever has also been rewelded.

Tidy up the messy welds and give it a spray. Sorted.

Yeah that's what I was thinking of doing. They didn't weld it particularly straight though and it has a slight crack in the weld. Thought I might fill it with some JB weld and then file it down. Should I do the same thing to the brake lever?

Sounds like a dodgy weld to me.

JB weld is magic stuff!!!!

I'd not piss about with a dodgy weld on the brake lever - chances are you'll require this one day .......

sounds like you need to grind the weld out, re-weld, and paint. done.

Keep telling people how shit cast ali is to weld. Full of impurities, bubbles like a motherfucker with a skin of crap on top when you heat it. You can't trust them for strength. Your brake lever will destroy itself very easily, get a new one, don't risk that shit.
