Sheesh guys, be nice. Don't you guys know how hard it is to buy a 2nd hand bike when you have $10,000+ in your pocket?

Be nice!

Soooo...

Do you on a MV yet??

As I said earlier I'm in no rush so I renegotiated with the Mv Agusta guy and he has further reduced the price but I'm still thinking about it as I also have a 2009 R1 crossplane lined up for me for extra couple of grand.

Prolly stuck on the side of the road somewhere.

HAha, I'll ring you when that happens :P

Nah it's raining. Who rides or buys bikes when it's raining. Of course he could have got confused between and MV and an envy and is currently piloting an HP tablet.....nah he'd probably have crashed the tablet by now

I rode my X bike to Straford and back to New Plymouth for 2 years straight( 100 kms from my house to Stafford and back 5 days a week ) in storms , black ice, heavy rains, and wind blowing at 100+ kph but still made it through each time so I'm used to riding in heavy rains etc. And you know it yet to ask, I wonder why?

besides I even gave my full license test recently on a stormy day with heavy rain and passed.

HP Tablet? We only use IBM/Lenevo mate and I have a smartphone so no need for that for a tablet while I'm riding :bleh:

Yes, but that was on a shitty everyday bike...and the only reason you were doing that was you had no car license and therefore had no choice.

Mate...if the '09 R1 is in your budget, swing that way. Take one for a ride if you haven't yet - preferably with aftermarket cans. If that doesn't win your heart over the MV... then I give up, you and I are of a different ilk! IMO it is better in EVERY WAY than the MV.

Yes That R1 is one of the top bike on my list, the other one is a Ducati 848 and one of my mate is going to check it out on this wednesday. So I hope to bite one of 'em if not I 'll just wait until something else comes up.

Might do and I'm really fussy about the color ( i prefer em in red ) but some of the 2012 + looks not too bad either so yeah I will test ride one of em at the local motorbike shop to see how they are. Thanks for the advise.

I've done all the necessary digging about this model and they are one of the most reliable ones being the old school. The only problem with them was the factory suspension and that has been taken care by Robert Taylor and he's no.1 in NZ when it comes to suspesnsion so thats one thing out of my way. The other thing is the part availability and they are available throughout nz through MV Agusta Dealers ( most them are Red Baron in Auckland, Wellington and Tauranga ) so like the previous owner I would shop around to hunt for the parts my self to save money and then provide it to the mechanic at the time of servicing. There are few other things which needs changing from time to time like any other motorbike are the chain & Sprockets, a compulsory oil change ever 6000 kms and valve clearance around every 10,000 kms and most of the things can be done own you own by following the service manual or by looking up the video tutorials on MvAgusta.net and for the rest the mechanic will come handy.

The other thing i found that needs attention on this bike will be failing of rear hub but there's a permanent remedy for it, a Mv Agusta specialist in Australia makes the custom ones will last for ever than the factory ones so that'll be the first thing I'll buy once I have the bike and it cost $1000 but I'll be worth it in the long run.

one more thing is to check the the fuel filter regularly to make sure the fuel hoses in the tank are all ok and the last thing would be to ckeck the fuses and relays if spmething goes wrong with the electronics and luckily I have a Auto electrician mate who will do this for free if need be. So yeah in other words its a simple MV Agusta being one of the oldest model cos the newer ones are more complex and their parts are way too expensive

Yeah mate, have already signed up on Mv Agusta. net forum and Mv Agusta owners all over the world have supplied me with enough info in terms of maintaining the bike ( parts and servicing etc . ) Some of them are also parts manufactureres themselves based in states and Aussie so getting parts would be piece of cake and they are heavily discounted for members so that will be convenient also.

Na mate I have been analysing the bike since ages. I was a noob when I first started but now I've become a guru in theory anyway :)

I understand where youre coming from bro but this Italian bike is like a Japanese bike in disguise, trust me on that I have done heaps of research to make me say that. Even a guy like me can easily do some of the basic things ( changing oil filter, chain and sprockets etc. ) by following the manual. The only other thing that I will have to get them to do for me would be the valve clearance and checking the bearing for the rear hub and keeping them lubed etc.

I did all the research using my head and now I'm above to buy it with all of my heart and no regrets, i don't wanna be that guy who ends up buying a bike and than mourning after couple of months. I have done enough research so lets see whats destined for me in the future. Will keep you guys updated anyway or you guys will find it out anyway , i.e when I start winging about the bike on here. Haha

It will take him another 18 pages to decide.

But he's done "all the necessary digging about this model", "done plenty of research", knows how to get a European-manufacturer rear hub for $100 and even "signed up to MV forums".

He is now MV guru, I'm sure he is ready.

I vote get a $5000 bike, get a $1500 flash suit, and spend the rest of the money on strippers.

For $12,000ish you can buy a dirt bike, a nice road bike and a ute.

Hey lads, Thanks for your input and funny comments so far. So I test rode three bikes yesterday. 1st Suzuki gxr600 at Paragon motorcycles in Wanganui, 2nd- Suzuki hayabusa 2nd generation at Freedom Moto and the 3rd one-Mv Agusta f4 through a private seller in Palmy also. THe first two were good bikes but none had service history but their sellers were happy to do a full service before the sale so I told them to get in touch later. After this I test rode Mv Agusta F4 and it was great. I had also requested the seller to get me a copy of service and ownership history of the bike so that was useful as it gave me an idea of the previous maintenance on the bike. After that we started negotiating and we came to a point where he offered me a selling price that I couldnt resist so I made a deal, paid him some money towards the deposit and we agrred upon me paying teh rest at the pickup. ( he wrote me an offical email from his work email outlining the agreement )

SO my plan is to go with a mate and pickup the bike on next weekend or the one after depending on the weather. Will upload few pics once I collect the bike. Ta

It was a good day. Told you not to hang about at the stops so we would miss the rain :P

Probably good to go round and check all the nuts are tight. Good way to learn about your new bike, and stops you have indicators unscrew and fall out with the vibration.

Also get your electrics checked. Looks like the alternator is fine, as all was ok after the bump start. I'd get the battery checked and also the output from the alternator if the battery is sick in case it's the charging that's broken it.

When you find the under seat tool kit, you can add the tape to it. Always good to have in case you get visor problems

Lovely way to start your partnership with your MV; doing the Gentle Annie run in the sun.
