Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with those small solar charger things designed to charge your phone/tablet?

What should I look out for when buying one? Charging times via the sun?

depends whethr you get one with a built in battery. In that case youre looking for the mAh (=milliamphour, =milli amps x hours) capacity of the battery, compared to the mAh required to charge your phone.

If no batt youre looking for Watts (W) or mAh rating of the panel. The bigger the panel, the m0ar watts, the faster the charge (to a point)
depending on your hardware, youll be needing at least 1A/ 1000mA at whatever voltage dev is. (usb=5V@ 1A =5W)

I bought one from eBay which measures around 60mm wide and 100 mm long - cost around US$20. It has an in-built battery and it's ok for charging my phone, but is nowhere good enough for the iPad in one hit. Comes with all sorts of connections for different appliances. You pays yer money etc!

I've got another one which is weatherproof around 300mm wide and 500mm long and cost US$70. That shoves out around 2.5 watts and keeps our boat marine battery topped up. It would be perfect for a bike too. Prices are coming down all the time.

supercrap auto have some cheap panels but no warranty. Good ones have 25 year >80%output guarantee.
