There is a rubber plug/cover on the head of my GN250. It's on the right hand side just behind the tacho cable. There are no joins that contact it, it looks like it just bungs up a hole that might be for inspecting/adjusting something internal. Anyhow, it leaks hot oil onto the block and that smears all around the place at speed and gets on my pants. I don't want it to catch fire either (is that possible?) if the engine gets hot enough. Does anyone know what that rubber bung does and if they are easily sealed up or replaced? Thanks for the hints I've gotten from reading the other posts and old threads in this section too! Lots of wisdom, now all I have to is not break anything! Later.

No it won't catch on fire - just unsightly. Take it in to holeshots or somewhere and it's probably a minor job.
or put triumph badges on it and relax.

Thanks for the answer Dave, I's thinking of putting a restrictor in and selling it as a classic, hehehe. Do you think there is some sticky crap I could just gum it up with? Do you know what that hole does?

is it about 5mm in diameter on the rear right hand side of the engine below where the tacho cable joins? If it is, that would be the cam chain tensioner... it it is about an inch in diameter, and below the tacho cable on the right hand side that covers the bearings for the cam...

email me and I can send you some service manual pics I've already scanned.. they are huge and I'm trying to put them into a pdf but the scanning is the important bit atm
