Often wonder , looking at the number of trucks on the road , there's a lot of them

And, how many of the drivers ride a bike as well ?

Throwing it out there .. what are you driving and, what are you riding ?

Do drive trucks, but is only one small part of my "living" now. Heaps of the truckies down here belong to the mates motorcycle club, and they mainly ride harleys. On the weekends if it is nice, of course.:msn-wink:

Used to be in the industry delivering sand/soil/rock etc.
Heaps of drivers ride. They are the ones who wave to you on sunny days as you approach them.

I drive trucks off and on, depending on the job Ive had at the time.
Anything from little chiller trucks to class 4 curtain siders and flatdecks / container trucks. depends what job needed doing on that particular day.
I ride an R1

Had this Volvo. 460hp, slow as fuck. The only thing I passed were Jap shit. Had a gixxer thou at the time, now a Ducati 1098.
Not in the game now but will go back to it eventually. I either like being one of the quicker ones on the road (bike), or slower (40+ tonne). In saying that if I had a dollar for every fucking useless car driver that would hold me up - Northern end 65/75k corners of Desert Rd, Kaikoura Coast, SH2 South of Bombays, SH1 Plimmerton to Foxton, I'd be a rich man, so not always the slowest on the road.

Used to drive this around the Coromandel. Call me fucked but I found it just as enjoying as riding a sports bike around it. Best drive I've had. At times I used to take an 22m H permit quad axle semi there too, not ideal for Tairua Hill.

Been driving trucks or managing them for 30 plus years and have ridden bikes all that time.
Currently Transport Manager for a medium sized produce carrying company and i have 5 out of 15 permanent drivers all ride bikes and 4 of those all ride Triumphs, 1 Aprillia and 1 Honda VTR. Ok thats 6. Forgot about the Honda. Prolly a reason for that.

Ah I remember the days when trucks were the slowest vehicles on the roads... Nowadays 95% of the time I'll get up past a truck just to find some idiot in a car holding everyone up

I don't drive trucks for a living, but I use punctuation for a living. Gahh! Thud.

Didn't you have an accident involving your bike vs a truck?

Yeah ok then, biker and trucker. Scania V8 and a pretty little red B-train while at work, and a yellow Busa when out on two wheels.

Back in the day I drove two general goods, a 12t Isuzu Turbo 5x2sp, which was like a car to drive but faster. .. Plus a 25t Hino with a 13sp Road Ranger. Horrible old heap of noise and harshness. Last was those little SULCO trucks which were slow as the proverbial wet week.

Ah, the good old days when the TK Bedford ruled the road doing a brave 5mph up the hills. D Series Fords like my Dad's that were flat out at 45-50mph. Mind you, the old Morris Minor was topping out at about 60mph which was a fair clip back then. Anyone remember the old saying, "Going like 60!"

Mum's BSA Bantam 125 would cruise nicely at 35mph, and I was flying when I got my B31 350 that would achieve 72mph with me flat on the tank. Then I bought the Suzuki T500 and my world was turned upside down!

I drive a truck for Anchor, the best thing I can say about is that it's paying for my ST1300.
Oh, and all the petrol I burn on my weekend.
And rego.
... insurance...
Expensive hobby!

Good ones earn great money.
We have guys earning in excess of $1500 a week. Mind you they do around 70 hours a week too.

I have heard 75k+

Have also heard they have a couple of months off (paid) during the year when there just isn't anything to collect.

Not exactly the best working hours though....

Yeah, roughly 3 month paid leave down here, but those shifts usually fuck guys up pretty quick.

I was taught to drive trucks by one of the Fonterra trainers, was told GOOD drivers can earn up around 80k, get a new Rig every 2 years or so and have 3 months off ay a time. They work in 3 to a truck teams. There are a LOT of nanny state things being monitored in those trucks GPS based speed and location logging with alarms at the depot if you go 1km/h over and it records for how long. From what I know they LOVE female drivers as they are so much nicer on machinery, fuel consuption and just general wear and tear and cleanliness. Not sure its a gig I would want though as they hire on a yearly contracts until you prove you are what they want.
