View Full Version : Mystery surge/splutter when riding at constant speed at 5-6k RPM

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time caller.

I seem to have a fuel issue with my '95 Yamaha SRV250. When riding at constant speed between ~5-6k RPM, my bike will splutter and surge as if it's running on bad fuel. If I accelerate or decelerate slightly it disappears.

I've pulled the carb apart and given it (and the jets) a good clean and while the issue did seem to improve slightly, it's still clearly there.

Has anyone had a similar issue or have any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Cheers

Balancing the carbs should do the trick

I'd assume so.
Check the slide operate well and the diaphragms have no holes
Change out the fuel filter
Check for blocking lines
Clean the tank vent
Check/read the plugs when it splutters do a "plug chop"
Inspect the float needle and seat, replace strainer and o-ring above the seat

A few wee things to start with
