yeah i reckon them speedo cables are a problem with them. the old man had to replace his when he got it. i can't imagine leaning one like i lean the gn, you can get the gn onto the pegs and then a bit further cos the pegs are sprung.......though i only did that once i am still trying to teach myself how to get my knee down.

hehe .. you should see my tires.. bled to the edge ( not that its saying much.. still running the 16" Sport demon on the back.. )

still quite impressed with it in the twists (yes my suspension has been modded..)

the GN's are ok for handing if you ride them like a motard

you have sport demons? arent they a bit soft? dude, i have sportdemons on my gn.....i dont know how to ride a motard but on the gn i tend to slide my arse offa the seat and balance more on the inside foot, its really fun, i'd love to see you lean all the way round to the edge of the tire on yer fj, i cant seem to gather enough balls to do that on my gn yet....well not often...

I need more than 1 litre for a bike to qualify as a penis extension.
In recent years my dirt bikes have shrunk from 650 to 450 to 250 - dirt bikers measure their ability in much more than cc's:apumpin:

Why ride a modern litrebike--well I would own one. They are just so much darned fun to ride fast.
I All I know for sure is riding the gixxer thou k4 had me grinning from ear to ear and wanting to ride fast for a heck of a lot more laps.
I find the modern 600's a tadd cramped.

Some people would have a thou over any 6, any day. Fairy muff. each to their own. but the 6hundies of today, would piss over most 750s, a fair few twins and a few thous of yester-year, and back then, they were the mutts nutts.. wonder whats gonna be around in 5 years time...[/QUOTE]

5yrs time? there will still be the litre & litre plus missles but the 750 clan will hold the fort again, especially if the Moto-GP resize takes effect. the 6s have the perfect balance and are the match of most anywhere but a 750 offers just that bit more & the places in NZ where the full noise of any of these bikes can be used thoroughly are few & far between, the 6s & 7s are riders bikes where theres more interaction, where as the litre + are lazy in comparison

Tough call, I've owned two or three llitre bikes, but have to admit I had the most fun on my smaller bikes, like my impulse.
I guess it comes down to what you want it for. When I had my FZ400, I got annihilated on the western springs on ramp by a ford mustang, who was halfway down the motorway by the time I had lifted the bike out of the lean from the on ramp, and trust me, its a hell short on ramp. I instantly wanted more horses right then and there.

After getting a Litre bike, I thought, hmm, I kinda miss the old FZ400 and impulse handling......... silly me.

for those of you who keep saying the 600's are quicker through the corners this comes from a performance bikes mag october 2004 page 110
"the zx10r was able to silence the litre bike critics in last months corner speed test by being able to attack bends at the same speed as a 2004 gsx-r600. proof that a big motor no longer means compromising on getting round corners quickly"

MAYBE 1 CORNER BUT I DOUBT 2 OR 3 CONSECUTIVE CORNERS , AS LONG AS THE CRANK IS HEAVIER IN A 1000 IT WILL ALWAYS FLICK FROM SIDE TO SIDE SLOWER , IF YOUVE RACED AN EQUAL RIDER AND YOUR ON THE 1000 AND HES ON THE 6 YOULL PROLLY NOTICE THEY GO INTO THE FIRST CORNER AT THE SAME SPEED , BUT IF THE NEXT CORNER IS REAL CLOSE AND THE BIKE HAS TO BE FLICKED TO THE OTHER SIDE THE 6 WILL BE ON THE OTHER SIDE WHILE THE 1000 WILL STILL BE ON ITS WAY OVER SO YOU BACK OFF THE 1000 A BIT TO GET IT ON ITS SIDE B4 THE CORNER AND THIS SMALL AMOUNT OF BACKING OFF THE THROTTLE MEANS A FEW METERS THE 6 HAS PULLED. A GOOD RIDER ON A 1000 CAN TIGHTEN UP THIS CORNER BUT THE BACK TYRE WILL SOON BE FUCKED AND YOU MAY END UP SLIDING OFF THE ROAD

i dunno i never claimed i could out corner a 600 , and all the artical in the mag said was that , it didnt go into anymore detail that that one paragraph

I'm with Winja here,a 600 will outcorner the thou for longer,it's easier to ride,it's easier on tyres, easier to control throttle on FULL lean. They may have been able to stay with the 600 on one corner, but what about a whole unpredictable, messy road?

NO WAY , IF YOU USED A MOTARD AND TRIED TO BEAT MY GIXXER 1000 ROUND SCENIC DRIVE YOUD BE FUCKED , BEEN THERE TRIED THAT .
YEAH SMALLER BIKES TURN FASTER BUT THE BIG BIKES MORE THAN MAKE UP FOR IT DOWN THE STRAIGHTS , GOOD EXAMPLE GIXXER 1000 ROUND MT WELLY (STROUD) ALMOST BEAT THE BUCKET LAP RECORD, AND NO ROAD IS NEARLY THAT TWISTY AND TIGHT

well to an extent a smaller bike will turn in faster......eg, my old gn250 or gpz400r[ninja of course] cannot turn in anywhere near as fast as my bros650 can, but the bros is smaller and lighter than the gpz.....and carries atleast 20-30k more corner speed than the gn could, i entered a corner at 80k and pulled 90ish out of it easily where the gn could do 65 into and 60 out of on the pegs going mental with bike nearly sliding:spudbn: oh well i'd get smashed by texmo ona scootah so i dont need to worry:blink:

My 5c worth. Some of us are BIG and some of us are HEAVY. Some of us are BIG and HEAVY. 600 plus big and heavy = slower and harder on the machine. I went from a 1000 to a 600 back to a 1200 to a 600 now back to a 1000. Some gains, some losses but its about what works for the rider. I'm just a ride for pleasure and crank it up now and then kinda guy. I couldnt give a rats ass if a 250 dusts me in the corners. BTW, I love riding a thousand and also mine has no stickers, so Im the only one that knows.....dont know about penis extension, more like a prerequisite for owning is a big set of balls and whatever goes with it.:2thumbsup

In the big scheme of things there is a place for "litter bikes" (leave bits n pieces over over the country) as with any other capacity. It's nice to have the variety
to choose from in our lil ol biker freindly country. I'm sure per head of population we bet any other country. GN250s rule though :blip:

naked 1000cc bikes with wide bars may not be the quickest but give awesome leverage into corners with real nice drive out, i think they are the best of both worlds and a great real world bike cant imagine myself owning a bike that you need clutch for high speed wheelstands. i like 600s just wouldnt own one unless it was my race bike

After 6000k on a litre bike.....who gives a fuck about corner speed. If you want to go mental - use the bikes strengths! Tighter corners - slower in fast out - fuckin fast out!. Higher speed sweepers and rolling countryside - no contest!
Open road touring - more torque than most big touring bikes - just leave it in 5/6 and roll that throttle! Stability - 255+ with Ventura packs on - stable as.
Better economy than a 750..
If you want to scratch in the REAL tight and twisties - so - ....its a public road. Lighter nimbler bikes with big torque will be easier to ride quick. But not THAT much quicker.
Riding position is a matter of preference. I've tried z1000's and such - great bikes, but, I like a fairing and feel most comfortable on sports bikes.
Basically - what it comes down to is - ride what you feel comfortable and good on. Just be prepared for things to happen a bit quicker on a thou.
