Today, I went for a ride and it was lovely. I do this every day.

I own several motorbicycles.

I though we were all in need of motorcycle related discussion around here.
So, I find owning a bike makes me happier and more awesome.

Feel free to talk about motorcycles at any time, nobody will judge. (unless you have a shit bike, or something)

Heading off tomorrow with 3 mates for a relaxing 4 day tour of East Cape. Picking up Dad on the way through Tauranga. He's 70 and still loves coming out on his bike with us.

Be leaving as soon as George replaces my right fork seal, 3rd time it's gone since September.:nono:

First trip with the new Vance & Hines pipes on the bike.

Feel free to judge. At least I don't ride a Honda :tugger::lol:

I was just thinking this today: How much I enjoy all motorbikes... cruiser, sprotsbike, custom, DP (not that sort, dual purpose) vintage, whatever. I like riding them, looking at them, talking about them, reading about them etc.

I also am into the funky leather gear but that might be a post for a different forum....

My Street Triple goes really well. It needs some more farkles though. Maybe some stomp grips?

More than 200k between the two bikes I currently ride, oldest is an 05. I like riding :ride:

Lately it's been more non-motorised biking, re-gaining some fitness, but clearly :Offtopic:

I rode to work at the Brisbane showgrounds today. Moto Expo Bike Show Launch Day.

I was the first 'Mee-dia' to arrive at the big dance (as usual - always allow set-up time).
By the time I had parked the KLR and taken my helmet off, Troy Bayliss walks straight up to me and says 'This is going to be fuckin' fantastic and Crumpy is looking forward to getting back on a bike out here' and we chatted all the way back into the infield.

Here's the motorbike stuff I made today:

Today (like every day) I rode my motorcycle. Gearing up and taking off for work is the best part of my day even if the actual trip only takes 15 minutes or so - it even turns going to the supermarket into a mini adventure.

I've loved every long trip I've gone on so far, even the ones that didn't go so well...they've all been worthwhile. Highlight so far: the desert road in winter, brilliantly fine, snow everywhere, freezing cold.

I've even met and interacted with some actual other people thru kiwibiker, which is unusual for me - thanks for that.

Recently bought a leather jacket, reminded me how much I miss wearing my old leather jacket which lasted a decade or so. It just feels right..."I love my leather jacket and I'm gonna wear it all the time (like a great big hug etc)". Otherwise I'd never be wearing one.

You'll be prying my motorcycle from my cold, dead hands.

Today I... Looked at a potential bike to finish another mans project. I'm starting to collect bikes.

I've decided I want all of the bikes. I've realised I'm not Bruce Wayne. But I can polish panels until the engine starts working again.

I love my bike, but something must be wrong with it: Five out of seven days a week and sometimes even more it brings me to this horrible place where I have to sit inside and do other things than riding all day.

I've tried so many things to stop this: I leave in different directions; I tried to confuse my bike by going around roundabouts twice; and I switched off the headlight, so it doesn't know where it's going. Nothing helped so far. I'm afraid it will do the same thing again tomorrow. HELP!!!

This may be true.
It's not.
You love them the same.

You just love what you get from things more than you love the things. This is why the order looks like this:

- Bike
- Kids

Unless your kids get you more bikes I don't see this changing. Riding on their back I think you would have hardly any fun at all.

Next Friday I get home from work about 10pm. Will get changed, have a meal and about midnight, I'm going to hop on the scooter and just ride. Dont have a destination or distance in mind, but I love riding at night. I'll take a bedroll with me and bunk down in a pull off area somewhere when I get knackered during Saturday.

May head east towards Opotiki or south to New Plymouth. Will make my mind up Friday evening.

Slept in late (till 6am) and didn't go to work - I love weekends (Fri, Sat). Weekdays (Sun-Thu) are annoying because I have to work, but at least I get to ride to and from work (35km each way, or longer if I take a scenic route home).

Once I got out of bed (nice & late at 6am) spent time relaxing and reading motorcycle forums.
Then my NZ Motorcycle Atlas (by Peter Mitchell) arrived so I had a flick through that and thought about shorter and longer NZ touring rides.
I'm thinking of a 1-2 week North Island tour next summer and a 2-3 week South Island tour the following summer, also a couple of 1-2 day rides to check out what I need and where to pack it.
Also checked the online tracking of my tankbag & tailbag (big enough to hold tent) ordered from the US.
Checked on google maps for other routes to take from work back to home.

No riding, but plenty of time spend on motorcycle related activities.

Another motorcycle celebrity moment this morning. Again the first person to greet me at the gig was Troy Bayliss, this time he was in civies and acting as host for the press turning up to his Moto Expo shindig.
We started talking about video production and he said 'here have a look at this video that my young bloke made' and hands me his phone with the vid loaded. I started watching it and he says 'stay there, I'm going to the gents'.
I thought 'fuck me. I'm standing here in an empty hall holding Troy Bayliss' mobile phone'.
Turns out the video was very good - although I did later in the day caution Jnr about using copyrighted music in the production.
I also did think that it was fortunate I don't work for News of the World - can you imagine what that contact list would be like? I merely put it down till he returned and continued fiddling with my cameras.
I luff motorcycles.

Today I.....

Today I changed the oil and filter on my car. Went fairly well until I drained the coolant as well and found out the drain bolt had no washer so I cannot tighten the bolt to complete the job :(

Seeing as how this is a bike forum I'll include the bike part of my story. Because my car was now out of service I decided to use my bike as transport. I gear up ATGATT and ride to my local gas station. Check the tyre pressures.....28 in front (slow leak) and 13 in the rear..WTF 13!!! oh hello Mr Screw!! You rat bastard.

What year A4? Coolant temp sensor will make it rich all the time after it's off the cold idle circuit (heated oxy sensors only take a few seconds to warm up in them)
Got a decent mulitmeter? Or an oscilloscope?
MAF/MAP/AFM will cause a million fucked up issues if you're having trouble with them, oscilloscope or a very decent DMM will show what's going on
Worth pouring cold water on the front of the crank once it gets warm, may help if you have a failing CAS (turn it off first, or don't it's fun that way)

97. Runs fine for a wee while, then starts fouling up. only sensor I can find is AFM, no MAF or MAP as far as I can tell. Resistances seem ok in the AFM with a hairdyer across it. Would of thought the CAS would of cut it out if playing up? Was gonna look and see if it has a couple of knock sensors somewhere as a couple of the lifters are a little sticky and thought that could be fucking with the timing. Still thinking its the CTS though really, Just seems to fit with the temp needle coming up so quickly from cold, and the electric fan starting up fairly quickly, even though the belt driven fan is working.:niceone:

That's a MAF you've found  no AFM on them (technically)
I test a MAF by the voltage output while running, there will be specs somewhere, should rise in a linear fashion when you bring the revs up. Same with TPS
Worth checking the oxy sensors signals (I think the have both pre and post cat on them) an oscilloscope is rather handy for that
CAS can do many strange things
Is it fouling every plug? If not, would check ignition system
Can you get a fuel pressure gauge? Worth seeing if it is low, or high, both will cause rich running under no load. Pull the vac line off the fuel pressure reg and if you suck it (hehe) and taste petrol, you probably have a ducked reg.

Yeah well worth checking the CTS hot/cold, that'd be a nice simple fix!

So, I ripped the headers off, used a scouring pad and compound to get rid of the tar.
I then used my little helper, pickling paste. (dangerous stuff, be very careful when using it) and after a few minutes with a soft brush it comes up in the matte finish you see. Pickling paste is used to clean off discolouration around welds on stainless, when heated the stainless decides to lose all its nickel content and goes fuckin' ugly.
I then spent a wee bit off time sanding out some of the scratches, bit of 800 through to 2000 sorts all that out.
Then attacked it with some stainless polish and a dremel.
Then had a fap. It looks much nicer :drool:295270295271295272295273295274295275

Then checked my bank account.

Today I looked at my bike, as I have done everyday for the past three weeks. I must organise a overnighter somewhere soon with a few invited friends. No time to ride during the week, or weekends for that matter. Work until 6pm on Monday-Saturday and until 9pm on Sundays. We do however, get to take four consecutive days per month so we must use that time to ride.

... made a decision. It's the first step on a journey, but every journey starts in this way. There is much to do but I'm aware and ready. I shall undertake the journey, knowing it will be difficult. Most definitely the path less trodden.

And so, to step two... Wish me luck!

I constantly checked my phone in the hopes that my clutch boss has turned up at patterson o'conner.
The running of the rd400 is getting near.

I madse the subframe the Kawasaki has been needing for around a year. Or three

Another one for you duck lover. 2000 audi a4 2.4 quattro, sweet runner, trans shifts beautifully, every now and then there is a big thump coming from underneath and It has got me kinda stumped.

Check for niggers,

Alternatively, trans mount, driveshaft coupling, and uni joints, etc. Plenty of joints and mounts to go funny on one of em

And rear subframe bushes. A bugger to sort (drop rear axle, etc), but worth the effort.

Fairly cheap though from FCP or Pelicanparts

And much easier to fit than pressing out bushes in lower arms. :(

Buy a kt from eBay. Fraction of Audi/VAG prices (even including shipping etc), and includes more bits than you'll need. And all the bushes are fitted in to nice shiny new arms.

I will get the Audi up in the air today, and have a damn good shuffties underneath. The 97 still going nicely, went for a spin around the block a couple of times(200+kms) on various different road surfaces, and was a bit of fun.:2thumbsup
Crf250r motor just about back together, KLX should have its new tank here today and my new trike wheels arrived last night. Plus I managed to get the mower finished for the local transfer station.Oh, and sharpened and cleaned the local volunteer fire services chainsaw.:Punk::Punk:

I love my bike, but something must be wrong with it: Five out of seven days a week and sometimes even more it brings me to this horrible place where I have to sit inside and do other things than riding all day.

I've tried so many things to stop this: I leave in different directions; I tried to confuse my bike by going around roundabouts twice; and I switched off the headlight, so it doesn't know where it's going. Nothing helped so far. I'm afraid it will do the same thing again tomorrow. HELP!!!

Buy another bike and see if it does the same thing?

make you bike go faster so it misses the turn off?

I did threaten it. I told it I would sell it and get another bike if it does the same again. Alas, my bike knows I'm bluffing. I love it too much.

I might try your other idea, though.

Spent a heap of gold on a Ralle Moto steering damper for the DR - last major farkle before the second big Oz trip in July. Only about 13,000 km this time but.
Motor running real sweet and suspension well sorted - looking good.

rode SH 16 from Wellsford to Helensville.

Not often do you get:
a day off
great weather (just the right temperature)
little car traffic
lots of bikes on the road (good to see)
great music in the helmet

all at the same time.

Only down side was seeing a group of riders with one of their riders down. Ambulance, Fire and Police on the way. Hope they are ok.

All in all a good day!!

Today I loaded up my new 65L tail bag with stuff and tested out strapping it onto the bike, it looks to be just the ticket!
No problem putting in my tent, bedroll, sleeping bag, pillow & 3 legged stool - still room for more stuff!
I also fitted the mounting ring on my gas tank for my new 25L tank bag, no such thing as too much luggage space!

I also checked out camping grounds to stay next Thursday & Friday night (I have Fridays and Saturdays off) to check out how well I'm set up for camping before going on longer trips.
I'm looking at going to Rotorua after work on Thursday, staying overnight, riding through Waikite valley, Mangakino, Karapiro, Tauranga and back to Rotorua, staying overnight again and then heading home on Saturday. Spent time today on Google Maps checking out the route and using Google search to find possible camping grounds to stay at.

Today, I left home at 3.45am this morning and rode the scooter from Te Awamutu across to Whangamata. Returned this afternoon. Will put up a yarn about the Beach Hop and the hundreds of 50/ 60's cars on my scooter rides a bit later.
This wasn't the aimless ride I was going to do, but was a fantastic day out.

Changed the motor, adjusted the wheel bearings, cleaned and adjusted the brakes on a 95 L200 4x4. Changed a blown light on my mates dash panel in his 2000 commy. Fixed the control cable on dads lawnmower. And smoked some weed and talked some shit with a bunch of good cunts.:Punk::Punk:

I mucked around with my bike like I have the past few days. I'm sticking on an Aprilia RS250 tail onto my FZR cos the stock tail is just UGLY. Designer had a heart attack and collapsed and so someone thought "Oh cool lets chuck in a light - its done!".

Well it sure looks that way. My attempt at a tail is not better at this stage. Need to fiberglass a few bits. Got a new Smoked LED tail light which is nice and bright. Getting there though!
