Thanks folks....
Yes! What a bloody GREAT day I had!
Woke up with a hangover from too much fun (although not as much as some people eh WT). I got a super early breakfast in bed and sadly had to get up because I was going on the 1st Annual Paul Nuttridge Birthday Ride... (bloody nice of you chaps to come down from Auckland for it) :eek5:
Nah! Just kidding!
So I toddled off with Mike on his kewl new 400 over the Paekakariki Hill at a steady pace. Eventually came up behind a 4WD following a couple of cars and was nearly going to pull the stunning pass but decided to cruise as we were nearly at the spot to meet Mooch..... Just as well, the lead car was a mufftie..... :eek5:
We pulled over for Mooch, cars went through just as Mr Suzuki Bandit boy blasted out of the gas station across the road... Ooops! Top of the Haywards, there, with lights a flashin, was muftie man and bandit boy... Bugger! (for him, yah for us) and thats just how my day has been.
What could be better than a nice gentle gallop on the Guzzi on a perfectly warm and loverly spring day with some great folks. Goodness knows how many bikes were there? 20 to 30? I guess the mid bunch I was leading could have done with me going a bit quicker, but then, no one got damaged either! (and it's me birfday so I can do what I like)
I left the group to lunch and pooteled home over the hill, finally got the blood racing through the last bit and let La Guzzi of her leash and was really naughty...... (sorry mr Daytona, CBR and Honda cruiser thingy - had to be done, it's me birthday) :first:
Now I have some kewl pressies..... Some more beer, some kewl new music to listen too with banjos in it (more beer) YAH HOO!
I LIKE being 48 (so far)

I said happy birthday to you already at Caltex this morning, but happy birthday again and you are lucky to be still so young. Great ride, hope you enjoy the pics on the other thread. Pity I'm not so good at taking pics on the run while I'm following you else I could have got some good ones of the rear of the Guzzi.

Sometimes you forget what being "Human" means. In the the midst of great despair, anguish, and self-oriented introspection one person can make all the difference when hope is the most distant it has ever been.
Paul is someone who makes a difference, with every handlebar magiced up to fix a comfort problem for a tiny GN250 rider, every supportive comment for a newbie feeling their way, a calming influence on a ride, just by being a swift shadow or a sure-footed guide. No bullshit, but plenty of compassion, loud drunken revelry, and deserved ridicule handed out without hesitation when your feet float off the ground.
A great Human Being, with all the flaws and benefits that condition brings, and a selfless mate.
May you have many more birthdays, you old coot!

Blush!
Um... Erm (blush) Gee thanks folks. I'll try to live up to all that. I'm actually really very touched by that (yet not quite sure I deserve it). It means a lot...
Actually, that made my day as thus far my 49th birthday has gone off with a bang.. On the up side, I suppose the lady that rear-ended the mighty Starlet in the gorge this morning could have done some serious damage to it instead of just scaring me halfway to death... fark! I thought me wee beast was done for and never going to make it to 250,000..
So, like me, it's a little battered but still trundles on...
Have a good one folks!
Cheers

Yeah, a lot of people say that about my car - right up until it's time to fill her up that is.. (wot? me cheap??)
Nah! I kicked most of it straight... It's a little more character for the old girl.

Although I've never met you, I certainly hope to one day soon, because if you're anything like the way you come across on here, then it will certainly be worth the wait. You're a top bloke, Mate, even if you are really, really old. :Pokey:

Thanks Everyone... It was a real treat to get so many kind words and it really did make me feel special on a very odd day... Just to recap and add to the wierd day...
6am - alarm - wait for mumble 'hippy b'day zzzz' from the Vickster... Nope, nada, zilch...
6:10 - mooch about hoping for breakfast in bed - zzzzzzz - apparently not - humpf!
6:15 - sigh heavily (hint hint) - Vicki gets annoyed with this so has first shower (ah ha - shes off to make a yummy breakie) Have my shower - Nope! Shes doing paperwork - bummer....
6:20 Make breakfast - Vicki drinks coffee, lights go on - "shit, it's your birthday' so goes to find pressie she hid... Hid it quite well as it turns out.... Can't find it... Bummer... Check garage - nope - not a new Moto Guzzi in there so can't be that...
6:30 Jump in Starlet - Vicki runs out waving somethig (hmm - not a new Moto Guzzi then) which turns out to be her pen 'cos she wants a kiss (aw shucks and to know how to spell a complicated word i don't know)
7:30 - Just when I think the traffic is OK I get rear ended... No real damage - just a fright...
Work (bleugh)
5:55 - 13 year old samoan boy kicks me in the head while I'm walking to the car.... (He is spinning on his head practising for some dance competition thing in Readings and fals over with his canoe sized shoes whacking me in the ear) Since his only crime is to be a moron I don't take it personally and continue to car.
6:20 - pick up Daughter #2 from Uni and drone home.
7:20 - Arrive home after a marvelous discussion about morals and identity with daughter
7:30 - Vicki found the pressie (not a new Moto Guzzi - she must still be wait to se if the Breva 1100 is a good un)
7:45 - Wonderful dinner with Vicki, my kids and my grandsons complete with special sugar free cake made by daughter #3.
8:10 - Watch the end of antiques road show balancing grandson #2 on knee while offering Leggo engineering advice to grandson #1 and having a nice coffee... Everyone at home, all warm, happy and full tummies, fat bellied grandkids to bounce and a loving wife plus 2 old motorbikes to play with... Nice friends to enjoy them with... I am truely a fortunate man...

Happy birthday Paul in NZ, please take a free trip right round the sun. Take as many people with you as you like. We will review this gift annually. Please feel free to cover as much of this as you desire, riding on a motorcycle of your choice. Due to financial constraints this is the limit of my offer this year. Enjoy, John. :ride:
